Ohio State Makes Final Five of 2015's No. 1 Running Back (and Former Michigan Commit) Damien Harris

The flames of Ohio State's summer recruiting extravaganza, Friday Night Lights, hadn't yet been extinguished before 24/7 No. 1 dual-threat-quarterback, Torrance Gibson, vaulted the Buckeyes to the top of his list.

It's little less than a week later, and Ohio State is sitting pretty with 24/7's No. 1 running back of the 2015 class, Kentuckian Damien Harris.

Here's Harris' final five, issued a couple hours after earning an offer from Texas A&M:

As you can see, it will be some stiff competition to land Harris. Regardless of what happens, Buckeye fans will always be able to take consolation in the fact Harris, the former Michigan commit, has finally dashed any hope of him playing in Ann Arbor.

That's a victory in of itself.

I still feel fairly optimistic that Harris will commit to OSU

Let me help... I made this gif for the last Photoshop Phriday but didn't have an account at the time. I was gonna save it till Harris commits to us, but I guess this is as good a time as any.

I'm feeling good about our chances.  It's still so odd to see Kentucky in the midst of all those great football schools...

What's the driving distance from Damien's house...

1. to Ohio State?    229 miles

2. to UK?                38 miles

Torrance Gibson sounds like he's very high on OSU.  Very excited about that.   If we can get one of these two, it really elevates the class we're putting together into an elite group.

1. to Ohio State?

2. to UK?

What is the won/loss record of each team, and where will he get more exposure ?

I went ahead and fixed that for you IBUCK.

For some reason A&M jumps out and worries me, as if he was waiting for that offer.

The way they're recruiting right now and with the upgrades to facilities that they've done, they have to be a concern. However, Harris has always made it a point that he'd like to stay closer to home, so that helps OSU and UK in this situation. Until he visits A&M, there's no real reason to worry about them, but Sumlin has them in juggernaut mode.

PittBuckeye's picture

Just an opinion based off of nothing other than the fact than I have a keyboard and internet access so I get to act like I knows sum stuff. I think A&M will have a real rough season, and with some excitement in Austin I think Texas will have a better year than expected. I'm mostly alone in this I think, but I strongly believe that Texas will go back to getting the Texas kids they want, and A&M will go back to not getting them. Then A&M will sink to a perennial middle/bottom of the SEC team.

I think you're on to something. A place like UT won't take the backseat forever. I think A&M won't fall fast, but eventually UT regains their place a top of Texas football.

I live in Big 12 country and can tell you that for years before Sumlin and Johnny Football, Texas A&M was able to pull a head-scratching number of good players. I don't think they will fade. Sumlin is the real deal, and A&M is a good school. I don't think that means they will be planting flags in Kentucky on a regular basis, but they are going to get good players.

I think Coach Meyer will get involved and close the deal. I just have a feeling that, at the end of the day, Harris wants to play B1G football.

Respectfully,

#1 RB - #1 DT QB - #1 WR

I am still holding on to Harris, Gibson and Kirk to finish off an incredible offensive class.

No doubt. Seems like a beast. You could easily argue he is the top WR in the country this year. Although he isn't quite on Nate Craig's level for next year. Hopefully we can still flip him.

UK/OSU battle. Will need to get him back to Columbus a couple more times (including the official) I think to feel safe. Alabama is a default for any elite recruits top 5 so Im not bothered by that, also, no idea why Florida is in there? I guess he needed someone else to complete a full set of 5. A&M is intriguing and they need a top talent at RB to complete what they are doing down there. I think the A&M impact on the recruiting trail will cool eventually and maybe during this season. No Johnny to bail them out and as talented as they appear in some areas, I think they eat a bit of humble pie this year and it'll be interesting to see how that impacts their recruiting. In Harris' case, unless he's been doing some really, really, under the radar stuff with A&M, I don't see them as a true player.

It seems to me like OSU makes a ton of sense for him. If Kentucky didn't blow and have no chance of winning anything I might feel differently, but they do.

He seems to be saying the right things and respecting the hometown team, and I would too.

I don't think so. I think we we're usually tied or slightly behind Loiusville. Louisville was also a good team while Kentucky is awful.  For Harris, we are the clear cut front runners right now. If UK has a good season, things change but for right now I feel very good about us landing him.
