Ohio State basketball will be part of an elite non-conference tournament for the 2017-18 season as it was announced Wednesday the Buckeyes would be part of the 16-team Phil Knight Invitational.

The tournament is made up entirely of Nike-sponsored schools and takes place in Portland, Oregon. It's in honor of Knight, Nike's co-founder, and is a celebration of his 80th birthday.

Ohio State is in a loaded field that also consists of Duke, North Carolina, Michigan State, Texas, Oregon, Connecticut, Stanford and others.

“We are thrilled to be part of the PK80 basketball tournament in Portland next season," Buckeyes head coach Thad Matta said in a statement. "The Nike brand has had an enormous impact on collegiate athletics. Being part of such a prestigious event that honors Mr. Knight was very important to The Ohio State University.”

The event takes place from Nov. 23-26 and will feature two eight-team tournaments. Each team will play three games in the event and games will be played simultaneously in two buildings.

All games will be televised on ESPN networks. Matchups will be revealed at a later date.
