I saw a few debating this move and his credibility last night on twitter. Great players don't always make great coaches, but Vrable's versatility as a player and his popularity as a player go a long way in my book. There is no argument that recruiting should be easy as long as he commits the time. I love this move.

Agree with this very much.  RECRUITING, RECRUITING, RECRUITING.  I think it's a step in the right direction and a step toward Fickell being around for a while.

A big time former Buckeye, with NFL success I would think could help recruiting. LB's coach only really motivates and helps with minor techinique things. And if Fickell goes after this year, it's moot anyway. Count me somewhere between Meh and Love it on the 11w scale.

***Warning UM fan comment*****

Good move for him reguardless of the near future of OSU. I just hope he stays in the CFB ranks and one day is the Head Coach for you guys. I always thought C. Spielman would make an awsome coach,it's to bad he never took that route (favorite booth guy though).

I've seen the same comments in regards to hiring a person with no coaching experience, but I absolutely disagree with those people.

During his NFL career, he openly admitted he wanted to get into coaching, coaches in the NFL commented that he would be an excellent coach in the future & he would be coming back to take up his own area of expertise.

The ability he has with recruiting is extra extra gravy.

If this actually does come to fruition, it goes a long way to making Fickell's team his own and quite frankly, Fickell - Vrabel - Drayton could be one hell of a combination.

It shows that 3% hate it, ok I'll bite, what negative could there be to him becoming linebacker coach for the Buckeyes?

No coaching experience...maybe too much Buddy-Buddy with Fickell and not enough boss-subordinate. Those would be my guess.

I'll choose to see the strong relationship between the two as a positive. As for the no coaching experience aspect, I can't really refute it since he hasn't coached officially yet. I will say though, there is a reason he gets the praise he does from coaches in the NFL and why he is refered to as a leader/coach on the field.
