The one time we don't get the choice of 'Other'.  How are people supposed to expand their horizons if we limit their choices?

May you R.I.P. Otsego, but know this. Gaylord Rocks!

Unky Buck's picture

And I would've explained if there was an "other" option that I would've voted for the Varsity Club. You know Ramzy didn't create this poll...

...

osu07asu10's picture

Right there with you Unky. I thought, No VC? No other?...

Equally as packed (not nearly as nice with the patio) but the Thirsty Scholar on the corner of Lane and Neil puts you square in the middle of things too

"They don't know what they don't know." - Coach Mick

Unky Buck's picture

I should've explained that part of my response is a joke with Oyster who jokingly said once that I'm probably one of those guys who votes "Other" and doesn't explain it in the comments...I would've explained it here, Oyster!
But yeah, Thirsty Scholar was a great bar to go to as well. Game days could get rough, though, as it is a much smaller place. Get there early, grab a seat at the bar, bring a colostomy bag, and don't move for 8-10 hours.

I created this poll and i will take the shame. VC just never crosses my mind. Alsoforgot OutRInn . Feel free to stone me. I deserve it.

yeah...outrinn would get my vote

CentralFloridaBuckeye's picture

Exactly what I was thinking.  I wanted to vote for the VC as well.  I voted for BW3's, which is pretty good too.  That's okay for forgetting "other" DJ, no biggie.  It's game day eve so we'll all be too excited for the game, or actually as I type this it is now technically game day!!!
Go Bucks!!

Campus looks nothing like it did in  the early 90s & I haven't heard of many of these places so I'm going to say Ugly Tuna Saloona because, the name.

cronimi's picture

You're right that it looks nothing like the early 90s when I was there. One of the more recent times I was on campus, we went to Ugly Tuna -- it was not good IMHO.

Bucksfan's picture

Hell, I graduated in 2005, and of the bars on this list, I have only been to O Patio, Lucky's and BW3's.  Kids these days...

Massive oversight, where is the Out-R-Inn option?

lcrumley89's picture

Out-R-Inn is always the place to catch any game. Good cheap drinks and the true college environment.

“There are some people addicted to alcohol, some people are addicted to gambling,” Luginbill said. “Urban Meyer is addicted to football, and he’s addicted to winning.”

cronimi's picture

^ This. If I'm on campus but not inside the 'Shoe, the Out-R-Inn is where I'd be for the game. Then after the game, I'd be at the Stube.
Chumley's was a good place for March Madness; many HDTVs and probably the best beer selection on campus.

Buckeye in Illini country's picture

Chumley's is my new 2nd favorite bar when I visit campus (after Out R Inn).  They actually have a good beer selection and at least last time I was there, it had a good deal on all Ohio breweries.

No Varsity Club love?

mh277907's picture

As much of a hell hole that it was, the Sloppy D was not a bad place to watch the game. It was never crowded, you could sit at the bar with a few friends and never wait for a drink, and the drinks were always cheap. You just had to make sure that you were up to date on all of your vaccinations beforehand.

BuckeyeFreak4844's picture

I like the Varsity Club as well but i voted the Little Bar its a good mini tailgate spot to watch a game.  The cash only on gameday can be a pain but i understand and plus the guy that owns lil and big bar also own the ATMs, smart business move.

Michigan Sucks!

OSUStu's picture

I watched a game at Chumley's last year.  I was pretty impressed.  Nice beer selection, lots of TVs, good food.

If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.  ~ Bruce Lee

cronimi's picture

Yeah, I made similar comment above (before I saw yours). Lots of HDTVs and a great beer selection. My 20-year-old self would not have cared about anything but Bud Light or Natty Light, but my 40-year-old self loves that he can get a great IPA on campus.

Buckeye in Illini country's picture

I agree.  My 25 year old self fears that Chumley's unfortunately will not last because 21-22 year olds don't give a crap about good beer.  It is a great bar with a lot of TVs and a wide beer selection, especially among Ohio breweries which is awesome.

Also how about Woody's Tavern in the Union.  It is a nice place to be on campus.

Voted for the Stube cuz that and Bdubs are the only two I recognize of the choices.....Im gettin old!  I would have put Out-R-Inn on there, favorite spot on campus for sure!

flipsaari2's picture

i graduated 2011 and the stube is the best bar on campus by far (in my opinion, best music/jukebox on campus, again, by far).

every time i go back to columbus i have to hit up the stube, and now they have a pretty nice patio out front.

Unky Buck's picture

If BierStube doesn't vote for The Bier Stube, I will be severely disappointed.

Missed the poll earlier Unky .. but me voting for myself would be borderline cliche'!  But up vote for you!

Unky Buck's picture

I've watched many a-game there. The back bar was especially kind to me during the '07 season. About 8 buddies of mine and I would ensure we had seats at the bar and it was drinking a plenty on those days...particularly away games. Definitely good times.

if the Stube is a poll option, I vote for the Stube.  always.  no exceptions.  doesn't matter the poll.
used to love watching at Zigs, too.  the smell of cat piss and puke just made the experience, you know?

i see you have a +1 and i want to make that a +2 but it does not appear i know how...

Scotch: It may be too early to drink it, yes; but people it is never to early to think about it.

jrich612's picture

Little Bar for sure. Clean, good drinks, awesome atmosphere.

Not really a campus bar, but I always loved watching the games at Zeno's down off 3rd. So many good memories watching games there... (Nostalgia tear)

I've been gone too long.  Aside from the Library (which I have never been in), I couldn't tell you where any of those are.  The only on-campus bar I used to like going to for Buckeye games was the bar underneath Donato's on High.  Northgate Tavern or something like that?  Probably something else now.

This. the Wikipedia page is wrong in attributing the beginning of the Mirror Lake jump c. 1990. I did exactly what you describe above with hundreds (or thousands) of others in 1986.

The 18 to 22 year old me misses Papa Joes very much.  (Yes the drinking age was 18 when I got to campus in 1985)  The 46 year old me probably wouldn't appreciate Papa Joes.

I'm not sure that I was ever cool, but man I did a lot of stupid things in college.  I hope that my 17 year old son never finds out about those things.  Of course, my bigger fear will be when my 15 year old daughter heads off to school.  I hope she doesn't run into someone who acted like I did in my college years.

Oh, man... memories there... I can remember as a freshman walking into Papa Joe's way back in the fall of '77 with a fake ID and worrying that the bouncer would catch the fake... If he did, he never let on...

I'm a little amazed that the VC isn't on the list. I voted Library but would have voted VC had it been there...

Varsity Club before game (actually before the Skull Session, which is before the players walk to the Shoe) THEN Out-R-Inn after the game for celebratory drinks.

Great selection of games...takes me back to my college days.

Little Bar is my favorite campus bar on non-gamedays, but on gamedays it's over-priced, over-crowded, and not very fun.  I went with BW-3 because it's most suited to handle a big crowd.

klfeck's picture

Eddie Georges should have been on the list for sure. Great game day environment.

During my college days it was Stube or Out R Inn. These days, my day usually follows one of two paths depending on where I park. I usually either stop at Hang Over Easy for a shot then head to Lane and hang at VC and/or Hineygate or I start at Big Bar for a beer and crawl up High Street usually stopping at Too's, Out R Inn, Little Bar or Scarlet & Grey, and finally at Bdubs, before heading to the stadium.

My first 2 years at OSU were in the Stradley Hall and Bradley Patterson dorms so I am and always will be a south campus kinda guy. The bier stube to this day is still one of my favorite hole in the wall bars, second only to Mama's in creepy alley. (we always called it rape alley but some people are sensitive to that word)

13THandSummit's picture

No Ruby Tuesday? Hah. jk. The manager there hates the gameday crowd. Cheap drinks though. I know it isn't the best, but my go to bar on gameday is Ugly Tuna.

Toledo, a good place to be FROM

DannyBeane's picture

In order to get to Mama's you have to look for the pizza box with directions written in sharpie. Then you go down a creepy alley until you finally find MAMA's. A hole in the wall that is what other hole in the walls aspire to be. I swear that place looks like it belongs in a movie.
