PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Sorry Browns fans, I just don't see this happening.
Ha don't be sorry. Take it from a Clevelander, this city wants nothing to do with Saban. Its all our SEC-loving owner that has the rumor mills spinning. Rumors have also been reported about Chip Kelly. IMO, with the way the Browns are playing right now, see how Shurmer does the rest of the year and keep him on board for next year to maintain continuity and see what he does.
Please no Saban. He's a snake, and a miserable human being.
Time and change will surely show how firm they friendship... O-HI-O.
As a Bengals fan I hope they give Shurmur a lifetime contract.
As a Browns fan I can tell you it gets worse than Pat Shurmer
The Bengals lifetime contract they seem to have given Marvin Lewis has really enchanced the Franchise's yearly production. 3 Wild Card appearences.... 76-79-1 record..... over 10 years..... almost as many wins as player arrests
Is this supposed to be a knock on Marvin? Because the 15 or so years before Marvin were about the worst years by any franchise ever.
Considering that the new owner has not even been there for a full season, I agree. Let it play out for the next few games, evaluate where the team is at and do some minor adjustments. Cleaning house right now will only set them back further than they are.
In Cleveland, he won't have the.luxury of getting two first round draft picks a year.
Well seeing how bad Cleveland has been, it could happen.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I hope it's true. Not to help Cleveland, but to get that snake outta college football again...
Ha Ha Roll Browns!
I would buy that shirt
He can be the Tribe's skipper. At least we say Roll Tribe
If he's watching Pete Carroll's 2nd go around in the NFL, maybe.
If he does bolt, we'll know the pimp hand of the NCAA is coming down on Bama.
This was a funny way to start my Monday morning...
They will have trouble keeping who they have as a HC...aren't they 5-8 now...that's more wins then the last few years. I'd say Shurmur's going to be staying for a while...especially if they go 8-8...common Browns fans...that's probably the best you're going to get.

"I love football. I think it is most wonderful game in world and I despise to lose."
Woody Hayes 1913 - 1987
I'd like to see the Browns go after David Shaw. That would be a near home run in my mind.
Just saw that NFL Network special "Cleveland '95"... good lord, what a stacked group of coaches and management. Sounded like Saban learned a ton from that experience, but doubt he'll leave a place where he is basically talked about and treated as the second coming.
"...but then again 'Michigan' and 'huge mistake' are synonymous so that shouldn't have been much of a surprise to anybody." - Mark Titus
If the Browns fire Shurmer after the final 2/3 of the season that these Browns have put together, then it proves that it doesn't matter who owns or manages the team, they're actively trying to fail on purpose. The Browns's biggest problem over the last 12 years has been blowing up their coaching staff every 2 years.
It's a tough final 3 games against Washington (though RG3 is out), Denver, then Pittsburgh. But if Shurmer goes 2-1, the Browns should not fire him for going 7-4 in his last 11. You HAVE to stick with Shurmer for at least one more year, maybe 2.
I can definitely see the merit in sticking with Shurmur, and you are entirely right about the Browns blowing up their coaching staffs far too often. However, with Haslem coming in, he may want to have his own guys in place.
thats what we thought about mangini when he rattles off 4 straight....
shurmur is the reason the browns are not a playoff team. a few better decisions and we wouldnt be biting our nails every week.
i guarnatee if shurmur stays the browns will be at best .500 next year because they started off the year slow because of his decisions.
edit: i wouldnt want saban as the coach either.
Look, I'm all for dogging a coach for his decisions costing the team wins. But Shurmer didn't decide for this team to play like a bunch of amatures in the first half of the year as they were dropping perfectly timed passes by a rookie QB. It's a young team with a rookie QB and a rookie RB.
I think they are a playoff team next year. The Steelers are teetering on disaster and the Ravens are also staring a drop-off in the face. The Browns have a great foundation for the future in all facets of the game, and I simply worry that taking another two steps backwards (takes at least 2 years to get a new coach's system up and running) in order to take any steps forward at this time could prove unnecessary.
Hopefully, if they do decide to change coaches they at least decide to keep Heckert and the overall system i.e. Some form of WCO, 4-3 Defense. Unlike previous regime changes, there's a lot of young talent on this team. No reason to blow up the whole roster. That, I think, is the biggest difference between this situation and past situations.
As a longtime Dolphins fan, I can tell you that you don't want him. He was much worse than his record indicated. He left the franchise in shambles with his personnel decisions and was way out of his element with the players. There is a reason he left in a hurry.
Saban would have to be stoned out of his mind to leave Alabama and take the Browns job.
Haslam wouldn't pay him an amount that Alabama won't match.
I think 2nd time around guys (Pete Carroll) would only go to a NFL team that gave them more power (GM-like) to make decisions regardling the roster etc.
Nick Saban has no loyality. New Browns owner has a big checkbook. It could happen. Just need two sides to give and take enough for it to happen.
Class of 2010
Where's the "No f***ing way" option? I'd vote for that one twice.
Saban just signed a contract extension that will pay him nearly 45 million over the next eight years. He is basically the King of Alabama and he is currently dominating college football. Who wouldn't want to leave all that behind and go to Cleveland?
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
