I'll guess Braxton runs for one. Throws two- one to Stoney and one to Devin Smith. Hyde rushes for one. The defense gets one on a turnover.

I would like to see Ohio State score between 50-70 and the Defense get a couple TD's in that total.  I am excited about this new culture and angry pissed off attitude that has not been seen in over a decade.

I am excited about the new culture as well, but are you saying during that magical 10 years under Tressel we didn't have one angry or pissed off team? You don't think the 2007 team was pissed off from getting clown stomped against the Gators..and the 2008 team full of seniors that lost the title game to LSU? I think not!

Let's find out if Laurinaitis and Malcolm Jenkins were never played pissed off during their 4 year careers. We weren't pissed off and angry for the  2006 Michigan game? Come on! It's one thing to be excited for the new coaching styles and culture etc...but to just act like we were a shitty unmotivated football team for 10 years, well that's just plain ignorant.

bassplayer7770's picture

I didn't mean to imply former players were never pissed off before a game, but I certainly don't recall Coach Tress ever saying publicly that he wanted an angry, pissed off football team.  Plus, I'd rather see a team who is angry and ready to destroy Miami on Saturday rather than a team who comes out flat and ends up playing a close game against an inferior opponent.

Buckeyejason's picture
Buckeyejason on 28 Aug 2012 - 10:20am #

I want a pumped up team that doesn't come out and play flat either..I think we all want that. I just think the whole "playing angry" thing is overrated. You could be angry all you want..but once you get hit in the mouth it all comes down to talent, execution, and who's better conditioned.

No he did not, however the point is that showing emotion or not has no bearing on how good a coach is. Brian Kelly is embarassing. Even when JT was pissed, he never turned purple and dropped F bombs. Tressel kept his emotions in check and was a very good coach. Kelly is a lunatic and hasn't shown anyone he is that great of a coach.

Personally, I was never a huge Tressel fan, either. But maybe that's because I wasn't really an OSU fan until I decided to go to school here.

Tressel definitely had some great qualities, but if you're comparing his levels of motivation to those of Urban Meyer, you really have no idea. Just look at that Florida/OSU national championship game. That Florida team was SO fired up coming into that game, and as much as everyone here hates to admit it, Tressel's teams have always been, IMO, very undercoached. Not ENTIRELY Tressel's fault, but the fact that he was so loyal to bad coordinators (i.e. Walrus) and had an incredibly rigid gameplan and reserved demeanor is VERY different from the hypercompetitive style of Urban Meyer.

The Tressel-era teams were bailed out because of individually great athletes. Troy Smith, Ted Ginn, Beanie Wells, Terrelle Pryor, etc.... but the line play has been awful, the conditioning hasn't been up to par with SEC teams, the quarterback coaching has been VERY poor for years now (which explains why Smith and Pryor never really developed that well as passers), and that's why his teams routinely lost to great teams like USC, Texas, Florida and LSU. All of those teams had some combination of 1) a great QB, 2) a great D-Line, and 3) Innovative playcalling.

The coaching should take a large portion of the blame for the Tressel-era teams. Is he a great guy? Yes. Did he run a good program? Yes. Is it on the same level as the program that Urban ran at Florida? I really don't think so.

I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.

What's the record for most touchdowns scored by the Buckeyes in The Shoe?    Total, not just offense, but special teams and defense all combined.   Whatever that number is, is what I'm thinking they shoot for.   Why not try to light it up right outta the gate?   Everyone knows what is said about first impressions.

The first team offense better score everytime they have the ball.  Special teams should get a return for a td.  Defense should give them a short field to work with.  6+ td's very attainable.

Bottom line is nothing can be worse than the previous coaching staff. 63-0 The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Here are some quotes (posted by Brandon Castel on Twitter) from Coach Warinner I think are very fitting here.

We're going to try to be the aggressor on offense, not just try to ease our way into it and see what the defense does.  It's a new philosophy, an aggressive approach in all phases - run, pass game, attacking people, saying, "we're coming after you."  I think that there needs to be a transformation (here) from previous to new style, a new way of doing business.  We're not going to ease into games where we're going to come out and just pound a few up the middle and be real conservative.

I hate to get involved with this here, but it's no secret that Jim Tressel's teams could be infuriating to watch at times.

Tressel's 40+ point game totals...

2001: 0

2002: 4

2003: 1

2004: 0

2005: 4 (didn't start until November)

2006: 4 (didn't start until late October...and this was his best offense)

2007: 1

2008: 4 (one was an accident against Northwestern, Tressel was visibly upset by the last minute score)

2009: 1

2010: 5 (career high, with a team that had 4 offensive starters that he knowingly played ineligibly).

Urban Meyer while at Florida never had less than 3 games where his team scored 40+ points in a given season.

2005: 3

2006: 3

2007: 8

2008: 8 (including a run of 7 straight)

2009: 6

2010: 3

So, get out your calculators, boys and girls.  We're about to get spoiled by points.

16th out of 119 isn't good? Also let's not act like the B1G was filled with dynamic offenses. I'm not saying the SEC is/was filled with dynamic offenses either, but they were on average probably more potent than most B1G offenses.

I think 48-10 type of score.  I see it as 300 on ground and 200 in the air.  I also think a couple of turn overs keeps tOSU under 50 points.  I expect some growing pains.

Hrewell (Miami WR) vs. Roby will be interesting.

Maybe tomorrow, when today will be yesterday things will be clearer.

Thank you Bucksfan...I love seeing proof right in front of my eyes (that way ppl won't open their silly mouths about how UFM won't score over 40 points).  Oh it will happen...and in bunches as you proved above.

If history is any indication, he is at least going to TRY to score a lot of points.  Even if he "takes his foot off the gas" in the 3rd quarter by removing the starters, he probably expects Kenny Guiton to march down the field and score a TD with the backups.  And he's not going to just give him DAVE to do it.  I can't wait to applaud the creativity and the effort in blowouts.  Meyer is the kind of guy, from what I have seen so far, that will score on you if he can.  He's got national championships on the brain, not how Mark Dantonio or Pat Fitzgerald feel about how many points by which they lost.  There are countless other ways to demonstrate good sportsmanship that don't involve fucking with the scoreboard.  National championships in this sport are a popularity contest.  And it's going to be that way even when the playoff hits....you will still need to convince people you're one of the top-5 or 6 teams in the country.
