Linebackers- Shazier should be a great one from what we've seen last year..but Grant is an unknown and Sabino has yet to really be above average. The thing that worries me in the secondary is Travis Howard.

My thoughts exactly. If camp praise meant on-field success 100% of the time, we'd see a lot fewer busts out on the field. I won't believe that Grant has the tools to be the most important LB on the field until I see it.
I'm not worried about LB because nobody is going to get past the line!
Put me firmly in the "haven't worried about an OSU defense in years" category. My guess is if not for the whole 'Howard Island' hype, nobody would be questioning his talent. As for the linebackers, let's not forget that guys like Hawk, Carpenter, Laurinaitis, and Freeman were sophomores at one time... That seemed to work out alright.
Um, did you not see him play last season..he was straight terrible! Looked like a true freshman out there.

Agreed with Jason...if he doesn't move well and watch how he covers wrs...then you could see some freshmen get a chance. Just watch this to verify what Jason's saying...first 3 plays illustrate it to a tee I do believe.

About 5:45 he makes a good break on a Cousin's throw...but at about 6:02...he is in no mans land for a HUGE gain...not so good.

TOTALLY AGREE!!! That mess tryin' to equate Howard w/the,"Revis Island", hype was too much, really!!! And don't be too surprised if Doran Grant takes that spot anyway. Najee Murry, Armani Reeves, Devan Bogard(Star/Safety, I know, but w/position flexibility), & though no-one really mentions it, Adam Griffin didn't look too shabby.
We had one down year & people forget that the cabinet is FAR from bare. And I'm willing to go down the list on every position, literally.
Coach Tressell recruited talents others didn't see the same, but blossomed into, not good, but GREAT Buckeyes. I understand that D.Perkins & J.Marcus will compete immeadiately for PT, but don't look past Cromwell so quickly. We had some other "3 Star" LB's,(Hawk, Laurenaitis), in their Soph year really show up. Grant will be fine, Sabino has finally seen the light, Shazier, well....., do I really need to say it?
Our "D" will finish in the top 10,(quote that), mostly because of the D-Line early, but later, in the season,(by game 3), the secondary will be scary, then the rotation of LB's will be flash....
Okay, (got on my soapbox & typed too much), I'm out.
@buckeyeJason agree. Travis Howard is a liability IMO. He's an average cover, and a shotty tackler. I worry more about him than I do Sabino. Grant is an unknown, but should be solid.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

Linebackers only bc of inexperience...I tend to think with good coaching as well as the right motivation may make this relatively new crew very good. We'll see soon...

I know everyone says LBs but I have faith in them. Just a hunch - could be wrong. Depth & experience may be legit concerns but talent is not IMO & looks like the coaches are doings doing their jobs with these guys to say the least - so personally, I feel very good about LB position.
