James Quick vs. James Clark

I'm going to say right off the bat that I'd have loved to have Quick in this class and I hope this doesn't sound like sour grapes because he ended up picking Louisville instead of OSU.

It is now pretty apparent that Quick was set to pick OSU at the Army AA game until Louisville beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl. Those were the rumors coming from insiders and players at the camp the week before and Meyer pretty much confirmed it in his press conference yesterday.

I have watched film on both of them and both are great recievers. However, even when Quick was set to pick OSU, I was always a bit underwhelmed by his film for as highly as he was rated, especially against the competition he was playing.

Then when I watched film of Clark, he just blew me away with his play, especially with the level of competition he was playing against.

The only reason I can think of now that I'd perfer to have gotten Quick instead of Clark is that Clark is a slot guy (which we already landed two great ones in Wilson and Marshall) while Quick is more of a pure reciever who is an excellent route runner.

Anybody have any thoughts?

James Clark is my favorite recruit in this class. His stride reminds me of Ginn's and he can really run. I think he will be a star in this offense

Stay golden, Ponyboy.

When Quick picked UL and whats-his-name didn't have the grades and choose WV things were looking bleak. Then we finished with Smith, Clark & Wilson. Absolutely fantastic.

Hayze I agree with your assessment of quicks film not being as impressive as Clark's. And yes he could've played on the outside more so than the slot but Clark's tape was so impressive that I'm happy how things worked out. Again I agree that I would've been happy to have Quick but I couldn't be happier to have JC. I actually didn't watch Clark's tape until after he signed bc I didn't wanna be disappointed if we didn't land him. What a treat it was to watch after the fact! Kids gonna do big things here!

I'm not saying I didn't want Quick, but getting Clark and Smith(don't forget this guy) make missing out on Quick irrelevant quite honestly.  They missed out on what great player, but added 2 after that.

Don't forget we also picked up Corey Smith. I think he fills in where we could have used Quick. He's a little more polished at route running, and is probably ready to make an impact sooner.

I was blown away when I first saw Clark's highlights too. No idea about his comp. or anything, but he looked like a blazer.

I didn't see Clark as a slot guy. I see him more like Teddy Ginn, speed guy on the outside to spread the field and very good at the bubble screen. He has such a long smooth stride that I think would be negated in the slot. Slot receivers have more quick, jagged moves. Clark has too long of a stride for that. I do think Quick is a more polished overall WR. I think this team does already have that though with Mike Thomas and Evan Spencer and probably at least another year more of Devin Smith. Plus Corey Smith is a more traditional WR so that helps a lot with that. Clark will be great as the other WR. Great speed even though he isn't that tall.

I can see a future core of receivers in 2014 (if Devin is gone) of Thomas and Clark on the outside, Marshall and Wilson in the slot and Zeke out of the backfield for a potent spread formation. In fact this year we won't have Stoneburner playing out of position as the Y and that can be taken by either Thomas, Spencer or Corey Smith which will be so nice to have. I really think sometimes Braxton struggled because he only really had Devin and Brown as true targets. Stoney, a TE and whoever was left really didn't provide a potent corp. for him to throw to. Now there is going to be some speed on this offense!

I would love to see Baugh playing the Y position at times.

Quick played for one of the best programs in the country in Trinity. They played a lot of big games against bigtime NATIONAL competition. To say his competition was anything less than very good (especially for the high school level) is pretty ridiculous. Assuming he has the trajectory that many think he's capable of, he will be an elite college receiver IMO.

He takes like 3 strides and is 10 yards up the field.........................

Quick is an awesome player, we'd be lucky to have had him...however, having gotten Smith & Clark both is great & I can honestly say I personally couldn't be happier with the group of receivers we ended up with. At least on film, Clark looks insanely good & fast. I was happiest with him on signing day. Huge fan of his video. Agree with Squirrel that he reminds greatly of Ginn...

I'm happy that we got Clark and I think he will be a steal, but I think Quick will be an elite WR. I would have loved to have Quick in this class.

Just my opinion but I don't think there was a single WR highlight tape I saw better than Quick's (Foster and Treadwell included) especially considering who he played against. I think Clark will be a huge Playmaker for us but Quick could be the best WR in the country when it's all said and done IMO. I was bummed when we missed out on him but seeing how we finished i couldn't be happier.

Clark gets up to speed in a flash and I think as crazy as it sounds his skill set will be better served in our offense than Quicks.

It may sound like sour grapes, but i'm glad Clark is here instead of Quick. It just seems like he gets it.

Several have mentioned it, but Quick played against some of the best high school competition during his entire career, not just his senior year. However, I think losing out on Quick was negated by our signing of Clark and Smith.

As a Trinity Alum I was extremely disappointed with losing Quick, and still am. But I am perfectly content with our current class of WRs/Slots.

Love getting Clark, Smith, adn Wilson. I believe the thre of them out weigh the loss of Quick. Nothing against the kid, but just excited about what we have..

Urban really closed with this kid.. The offense will be much better than the offense that averaged 37 points a game.. This will allow the silver bullets to improve as they go..
