Hey 11W Commentariat,
So there's been a lot of posts lately about voting, so I'm going to try and run down all of the details quickly and concisely. If anything is incorrect/could be phrased better, let me know!
What is an upvote/downvote?
Voting is a way to help moderate and reward posts on the 11W forum.
How can I vote?
You must accrue 100 net helmet stickers in order to vote (check yours by clicking "My Account", you can also find the leaderboard there). Until you reach this threshold, you will not be able to vote.
How do I get to 100 helmet stickers?
By being active and posting informative, funny, or thoughtful posts. Helmet stickers are the result of voting and being involved. The net result of voting adds to your helmet sticker count, but posting a comment=1, posting a forum post=2, posting a blog post=10. Original content is rewarded!
What are the other comment thresholds?
You need to stay above -50 to comment and above -5 to create new forum topics.
When should I upvote?
If a post is well thought out, makes you laugh, or adds to the discussion in an informative or humourous sense, upvote. In general, if it's something you'd like to see more of, upvote! Some also choose to upvote to cancel out a downvote they find inappropriate.
When should I downvote?
If it violates the commenting policy, downvote it (the staff has been vigilant at removing such posts recently). If it discusses politics, religion, is abusive towards other users (personal attacks), is unsubstantiated or doesn't add to the discussion/is otherwise ignorant and stupid (for instance, TP sucks and was never a good player), downvote it.
Downvotes should come based on content only, not based on whether you agree with a person or not.
I disagree with someone, what should I do?
1.) Post and lay out why you disagree with them. Others may agree. 2.) Don't post, but don't downvote.
My post was good but was still downvoted, what gives?
It happens. It's best not to dwell on pixels, others will see that you've made a good post and reward that. If you post complaining about DVs, you're only inviting more DVs. It's highly likely that it's a mistake (voting can be hard on mobile devices).

Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
I think it's important to emphasize that people shouldn't dwell on getting downvoted. It usually leads to unnecessary arguments.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Will emphasize, thanks!
My impression has been that a downvote is only for comments that violate the commenting policy. Your description is right on, but you should mention the commenting policy and link to it.
Thanks for putting this in writing. Hopefully the staff will adopt this as an info page for new members/viewers.
Well said.

Great info
Appreciate the info as 11w is now in my favorites bar.
Absolutely superb, mate. If I may add one thing that is believe is well worth noting, downvote solely for content, not for opinion. I frequently upvote well-articulated posts, even those that I don't agree with. Fostering contrarian opinions adds to discussion and eliminates a "hive mind" mentality.
Another use of the upvote is to cancel out useless downvotes. I frequently upvote posts that I normally wouldn't, only to get them back to even because of an unwarranted downvote. Really glad you wrote this, this should be listed in the site resources.
I mentioned it at the end of the paragraph on DVs, but I'll emphasize it when I get back to a computer. Thanks!
Bravo good sir
Very concise and much appreciated!
