This isn't a bug- it's a question. If at -50 helmet stickers you can no longer comment, create blogs, or create forum topics, then there is no way for that person to ever move up from -50 helmet stickers.
Is that intentional?
I'm not planning any bad comment assaults or attackes, so I don't plan on being negative, but am just curious.
Is there a way to up or downvote forum topics or is that completely controlled by the moderators?
Just realized that we have the ability to vote for ourselves, I'm thinking that--in the spirit of one of the oldest lessons in all of recorded history--such absolute power will surely corrupt us, absolutely.
Question: How did you determine my join date? Because I have the stickers from this thread, which was in 2008. So I know I have been here longer than 2010!

I don't think comments are supposed to move "up" when voted. I think they remain in chronological order. At least I hope so. It's tough as heck to tell a conversation if you move just the upvotes higher on the page.
The comments don't move you just see the votes.
And @DallastheLogian the forum topics move up and down based on activity. If you want to see them on the side bar you have to comment. The posts with the most recent comments are at the top.
Hey jason, is there a chart of what privileges you get when you reach certain number of stickers above the 50 that is needed to vote? I am curious what other privileges could we get.
Like if we reach 250 stickers, we get a special font or color during live chats! That way those trolls can't come on and use our username.
Yes. We don't know if -50 is the perfect number, but we think it's a good start. I'm hoping that it's kind of hard for people to get to that point and it's only used to deal with obvious trolls, jerks, etc.
Right now, voting is only enabled on comments. Forum topics rise/fall with activity.
Are you sure you can vote for yourself? You shouldn't be able to do so.
Unfortunately, we could only go back to when we moved to our new platform on 8/22/2010. It's not perfect, but it's what we had to work with.

Missed one day on the site and have no idea what these "helmet stickers" are. Anyone able to fill me in? Does it have anything to do with the /\ and \/ next to the poster's name in the comments section? If so, please don't go all \/ on me for asking a silly question.

Ok, so I click upvote on some threads and it doesn't do anything. I leave the thread and come back and it has a green up arrow where it recorded my upvote but didn't show up until I refreshed. I'm using IE (stupid work).

Don't know if this is a bug or not related to the helmet-stickers, I started getting browser script errors shortly after giving a few votes.
Only after I went back to the main homepage and refreshed did the script errors go away.
I'm using IE 8.0.7600.16385

Not a bug (I don't believe); however, I am unable to see the level of votes that have been given to comments at this time. I understand that the minimum number of stickers to make a vote is 50 and I'm not quite there, but I want to make sure that if you don't have 50 stickers it is intended that you don't see the vote status.
In short, I cannot vote yet but also cannot see what votes have been made. Working as intended?

Would be unfortunate to those that lose stickers, but then are unable to see which post cost them the sticker. The inverse is also true... If I post something that brings in the stickers, I would have a better grasp on what the community would like to see more of.

I ran into it once yesterday but I did not see it again and I don't know how to recreate without a lot of running around and upvoting.

Is there a way or can there be a way for voting on the original forum post. I haven't seen it and when someone starts a really good forum post I think they should get votes out of it. Only see voting in the replies.
I think voting would be more meaningful if we only got one vote per day. If you could only upvote or downvote once per day, getting a vote on your comment would mean a lot more. And it would reduce the phenomenon of people ganging up on people expressing unpopular opinions. If you only have one vote to spend per day, you're probably not going to spend it on a downvote unless the comment is really egregious. And I believe that was the original intention, right? (Unfortunately, at present, people seem to just be downvoting anything they don't agree with.)
Anyway, just a suggestion... Thanks for all your work making this site a fun and friendly internet destination!

The only problem with that is that the Helmet Stickers serve to allow the 11W commentariat to police themselves, and only being able to spend one vote a day means that we lose the ability to effectively gang up on trolls.
I do agree with your stance on "people ganging up on opinions", though; Houston, we have groupthink.

This isn't a helment sticker bug but I was wondering if there was a Skull Session that talked about the helmet sticker for forum topics and how that effected your overall helmet sticker count. If there was no announcement of this in a skull session or likewise, please ignore this.

I, too get error messages when trying to vote. It seems to happen if my first few attempts at voting don't record. Once I get the error message, within several seconds, I'll see my vote recorded. If I don't see my updated vote, when I try to vote again, it tells me I have already voted.
I have a problem...not a bug...please start HAMMERING ppl who violate the voting process. Really getting tired of stalkers/haters just absolutely FLAMING me or others for this below (especially what's in bold). Otherwise I wish you guys at 11W would just get rid of it personally. Liked it better without it...
•Upvote anything that's well-articulated. Even if it's contrarian and inspires you to write up a 1500-word response, give opposing viewpoints the same love you'd give something you agree with 100%.
•Upvote anything witty that makes you laugh (or most anything Denny posts).
•Funny pictures? Upvote.
•Use the upvote to cancel out needless downvotes. Not everyone plays by the same rules, and a lot of quality comments get downvoted into oblivion because someone (A) doesn't like the poster, (B) doesn't like their arguement, or (C) doesn't like the team they root for.
•Use your downvotes sparingly, for things that are obviously over-the-line. If you're violating the policy (i.e. "being a jerk"), let the downvotes rain.
•If it's borderline, play it safe.

There are going to be a handful of idiots that downvote some stuff they shouldn't downvote. We need to make sure there are more than just a handful of non-idiots that vote. So vote up more often. The idiots that downvote will matter less and less.
