PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
What are our chances with him?
If we take another receiver, I hope it's JM.
slim to urban
I don't really know who he is. Is he as good as Trevion Thompson?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Most scouts consider him a notch above Thompson, it appears.
Watch his highlights, simply a stud...Looks like a future NFL'er for sure
I saw him play early this year. I came away quite impressed, although the guys trying to cover him were shorter and slower and he had quite a few wide open catches. But the talent is there for sure.
From what I've heard, which isn't much, he's gonna stay in the South. Tennessee fans think he's all UT, but I'm not so sure he doesn't end up at FSU. I like that he's visiting OSU as one of his officials, though, and hope Urban can work some magic.
Josh Malone highlights
His dad hung out at Cheers and played baseball. Everyone knew his name.
Out Work, Out Think, Out Play!!!
Didn't his uncle play in the NBA for a while?
Moses or Karl?
Surprised we are going after another WR with 4 already, Lonnie Johnson, Parris Campbell, Curtis Samuel, and Noah Brown. Got to believe, if in fact, we do get another 1 out of Malone, Dixon, or Thompson, some will get switched to defensive secondary positions.
None of those guys are ideal candidates for the outside WR position, especially not Campbell and Samuel, who will be hybrid athletes. Brown, despite being taller, is not that kind of player, and Johnson could end up as a safety.
Hate to 2nd guess the staff, but way too many WRs in the last 2 classes if they get another commit IMO.
When Meyer came to OSU he said the receiver position was a concern. I see nothing wrong with adding depth and making it a strength for years to come.
Edit: Why did Woodshed's comment get DV'd? It was a legitimate comment. +1
There's a big gap between our Seniors and Freshman WR's I think Urban is looking for immediate depth, potential Freshman starters. And to everyone who keeps forgetting Lonnie Johnson kid will play WR at 6'2, Noah Brown will be solid too. I'd prefer to have Malone in this class over Dixon, with EGW already in the fold I think we have to stop getting carried away with all these 5'10-6' speedsters and mix it up.
Only 2 sr's though right?
Yea, However Devin Smith could elect to go pro! So think of where that would put us losing him, spence and Philly Brown!
It puts us with a truckload of young, unproven receivers either way. If smith doesn't leave, that means we are replacing 2 receivers with 4-5 next fall.
We will be fine at receiver next year even if Devin leaves. We will still have Spencer, Michael Thomas, Dontre, and the rest of the young talented receivers. I think if we get Josh Malone he will make an impact his freshman or sophomore year. I think we will see this kid play on Sundays barring any major injuries or off the field issues.
Jalin Marshall will start and be solid next year, book that, one of the coaches had stated recently that they were close to burning his RS because "He is too good to keep off the field", iirc...even though I believe it was said tounge in cheek.
Even if Smith goes (I don't think he will), we still have Spencer, Marshall, and Dontre, plus Thomas and a lot of good freshman with potential to make an impact. Philly is playing solid and has really progressed, but I don't think he is a guy you really feel like "Oh hell we will never be able to replace him." Smith is solid too, but replaceable with with similar production with another burner. The biggest thing will be coaching them up on blocking as well as our current WR's do, as it is important...Urban is huge on that, so I don't worry too much.
you don't turn him down, you're talking about a top 50 kid, not just another wr.
It seems like he wants to stay down south. Ohio State will find out where they stand with him if he makes the visit. The staff definitely wants to land another WR.
Love this kids highlights but tend to agree he stays down south. Personally, I want Trevion Thompson. I think Malone and Thompson are both top notch but I feel we have a foot in the door with Trevion. He's been up here a few times on his own dollar and attends the same HS as Jamal Marcus did.
Josh reminds me a lot of Dez Bryant, I want him.....bad
