If Braxton enters the 2014 Draft we are going to be in a tight spot next season. According to McShay over at ESPN, Braxton is one of the top 9 qbs in this upcoming class of eligible players to enter the 2014 NFL draft. Assuming Braxton stays healthy and has the stellar year we're all sure he'll have, you can imagine him creeping up those draft boards. As fans, we all like to think that players want to return for their senior year out of school pride but the reality is that Braxton has a small child and it will be very hard to turn down an NFL contract.
That said, if he leaves that means we are looking at Cardale Jones and/or JT Barrett as our qbs. One of the things that has stuck out recently is the staff's utter lack of faith in Cardale Jones. Meyer was recently quoted as saying that "Plan C (Jones) is a problem." And you'll notice that Meyer chose to keep Guiton in during garbage time against Cal -- even though it was risky given that Braxton is already hurt and losing Guiton would be almost just as bad. And, even if Braxton stays, can we count on Jones/Barrett to pull a Guiton and lead this team when Braxton inevitably gets dinged up?
I'd say that the good news is that we have Tom Herman but what are the odds he remains on the staff by next season? Let's just hope Barrett is next year's Jameis Winston.
