PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Per Steve Wiltfong. Bummer.
Buckeyes were looking in other directions.
Because other players were better or because Roberts tweet vulgar things?
That's not really a fair question for him. The minute he does one thing to lose the trust of a recruit, he will lose the trust of all recruits, and we will lose the great information he and others bring to the site.
Very good point Op Buck. Very good indeed
"I want a hungry team. I want a team that can't wait to get out there. I want an angry team! You're the Ohio State Buckeyes. You're an angry football team. You're a hungry football team and I'm proud to be your coach." UFM
Fair enough. UCLA doesn't really seem like the type of school that would take low character guys. I'd put them closer to Stanford than to USC.
Everything I've ever read about Roberts indicates that he is a very high character guy. I can't write for certain that Hinton wasn't referring to him, but would be really surprised if he was. Roberts is a good student and really classy guy IMO. Wish him nothing but the best out west.
^^^my first thought.
Two blondes were driving to Disneyland. The sign said: Disneyland Left... So they started crying and headed home.
Yes, bummer, but I wouldn't say end of the world by any means. I think the staff started to feel the numbers crunch and had Gisecki (SP?) rated higher. Roberts is a tweener. Needs to bulk up to play TE, a little slow for WR, but perfect for H-Back role. Not a knock on the kid at all. I was really hoping a couple months ago after watching his highlights that he would join the 2014 class. Plenty of wide receivers coming out of IN these days. I think we will start noticing the affects of the schollie reductions more and more towards the end of this recruiting cycle.
Or, maybe it means the tOSU staff told him they have a commitment coming from the TE/H-back position already, and they would not be able to accept Roberts' commitment. I guess we will find out based on what Gesicki decides.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
Has Gesicki set a date to commit?
No date. Rumored Mid-Late fall.
Thanks, 13. I look to you for commitment dates.
I stand corrected....bring on Gesicki please;-)
A pretty quick turn of events on this this one. Seems like Jeremy was right (as usual) and OSU couldn't find a way to fit him into this class. Always seemed like a good kid just didn't really have space for him.
Here's a write-up from Wiltfong about his commitment.
Also: As you probably figured, Wiltfong said Roberts is no longer coming to FNL @ OSU.
Come on down Mr. Gesicki!!!
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
Are we even sure Gesicki has a committable offer? TE is not a position of need and with limited scholarships available.....
I am pretty sure he received his offer after coming to camp, where he reportedly got Urban really fired up while they were working 1 on 1 or in a small group. So from everything I have seen I think yes he most definitely has a committable offer. The trend away from Roberts seems to been impacted by Gesicki, people are saying on twitter they are all in for him at TE.
Definitely is committable.
Best of luck to him, seems like a high quality guy.
It is such an amazing thing to be turning down (turning down is not the right phrase) high level recruits because the staff members are excellent at recruiting. Some of these players that were rumored OSU commits and have seemingly been turned away would make a great little class themselves. I can't wait to see what hppens when these darn schollie restrictions expire.
Noah Brown or Mike Gesicki would fit at the position Ohio State is trying to fill here, good choice either one.
I certainly wont complain...
Gene, are they looking for Brown to add 15 or more pounds to play the TE/H-Back role? When I watched both their highlights I saw two different body types and positions. Gesicki is your prototypical, long, and athletic TE while Brown was your big, physical, outside WR. Your thoughts? Thanks as always.
Didn't realize that Brown was your more slot or inside guy at only 5'11''. For some reason in my head I had him over 6 feet and around 200 pounds. Not that big of a difference, but significant when comparing H-Back, TE and WR.
Scout lists Brown at 5'11".
Every other site lists him at 6'2".
I don't consider this a lost in my book. Nice pick up for my home town school. Noah Brown come on down.
Congratulations, Austin. UCLA is a great school, and I wish you the best.
Also, it is not USC, but then, you are smarter than that.
I honestly don't think Gesicki will end up here, I think we're going to close in a different fashion.
could be...a lot of prospects on the board still with only a few spots left. I think Gesicki's athletic ability will make him a part of the class; however, i wouldnt be completely surprised if they passed and ended things different either
