PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Taking questions through WEDNESDAY night only for Jalyn Holmes, Ohio State's defensive end commitment from Virginia.
Jalyn, what was it about tOSU that was the deciding factor for your commitment?
Jalyn, was ohio state your favorite before your visit or was seeing the campus and the facilities a difference maker in osu recruitment for you? If so what really stood out to you about that visit?
How do you feel about the current class having such a strong O-Line contingent? Are you excited to get to face such competition during your time at Ohio State?
"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence" - Calvin Coolidge
Ohio State has had some great athletes at the defensive end position over the years, one being Mike Vrabel.
How did Coach Vrabel's involvement in your recruitment impact your decision to become a Buckeye?
"Success - it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
Can you comment on the quality of ESPNs recruiting service considering the fact they have you listed as a tight end?
Are you recruiting the likes of Thomas Holley and/or Solomon Thomas? Would be a great DL haul
What are you looking forward to most about being a Buckeye?
How strong is the local pressure to stay in the south?
Wait, Virginia's in the south?
Funny thing is that in Hampton Roads/ Tidewater/ The 7 cities/ the 757 it doesn't seem southern, but once you get out of the area, there are "stars and bars" all over.
All week long, Meyer preached to his team that he wouldn't pity Buffalo (4--8 in 2012). "I didn't schedule this game," he insisted. "I'm not going to feel bad for them."
Uhm...I thought he was from Georgia. I'll hang my head in shame and change my name to ignorant slut.
Edit: I obviously didn't read the full topic and only saw Jalyn Holmes.
Have you been able to get to know some of your fellow 2014 Buckeyes recruits and if you have, who have you been in touch with the most?
Is there a difference between Viper and Leo? "No, we just thought Viper sounded cooler."---Coach Mike Vrabel
how upset were you about your commitment being leaked before you wanted to announce?
~Naples Buckeye - "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't." - General George S. Patton, Jr.
Jalyn, Coach Meyer is always looking for guys to step up and be a leader. Do you think that will be a role you can assist your Team in down the road?
Are there any current or past Buckeye defensive linemen you want to model your game after or would compare yourself to?
Bet you can't say "Bert Bielma is a bumbling buffoon" five times fast.
What is it about defensive end that you like the most? Have you ever played other positions? Are you satisfied with your game or are the certain aspects that you want to fine-tune in the short- and long-term?
Jalyn first off, welcome to buckeye nation! Coach Meyer brings in a lot of great talent on the d-line, especially the last 2 classes, well 3 now. Being a smaller DL class this year, have the coaches told you specifics on where they want you to play or plans for you? And have they given you any areas to improve or techniques to work on during your senior year?
Do you play any sports besides football? If so what are they?
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
Jalyn, welcome to the family and congratulations. Describe your style of play for us. Is there a player out there with style that is similar to yours? Who was your favorite Ohio State player to watch as you were growing up?
Do you despise Michigan yet?
1) Welcome to the fam Jay! You were also a highly touted TE-H-Back prospect as well. Knowing how dynamic the TE can be in Urban's offense, what solidified your decision to play defense for the Buckeyes?
2) Please fill in the blank - "The Ohio State Buckeyes will _________ Michigan this year."
Jalyn do you think you could let Espin know that you are not a TE and in fact one of the top 5 DEs in the Country?
A wise man once said "success is not final and failure is not fatal"
Oreos or baked cookies?
HANSMAN'S FAVORITE POSTER.
Good one!! Those tweets were pretty cryptic earlier.
What are your goals for when you step on campus, both personally and team wise?
What would you like to say to buckeye nation?
What will you be going as for Halloween this year? Have you given any thought to changing your first name to Sherlock? and which Ohio State tradition is your favorite?
J Holmes, where there any schools in the VA that interested you before committing to the good guys? O H.
What is the best and worst thing you see in your upcoming move from high school to college?
Do you have a major that you plan to start towards yet?
Is Virginia *really* for lovers?
“The teams that don’t respect their coaches and don’t trust their coaches are the teams that go .500"
First, congrats on being a Buckeye.
If you could, would you do a side by side comparison of OSU and FSU? I remember there being a quote out there by you or someone in your family saying OSU had something that FSU didn't.
I work with a couple of Seminole fans and have grown to appreciate their program. Great tradition in football (since the 80s), great location, knowledgeable fanbase, amazing facilities etc, so was wondering what it was?
Thanks and Go Bucks
I have a question more so for the staff than I do for Holmes. Is it discouraged for team members to use the "N" word in references and tweets? I bring this up because of his tweet to Prince. I hate that word and would like nothing more than for it to be forbidden in its use on social media. Again, before I get DV to hell, I have nothing negative to say about Holmes just hate the use of that language.
Congrats on your commitment to the Buckeyes and the opportunity you have earned.
Can you provide any insight to the reason that many top recruits are picking schools like Rutgers, Maryland, Virginia, etc? While those are good schools, their football programs aren't on par with with other offers they had. Are these other guys choosing these schools because of early playing time (lack of competition), staying close to home, childhood dreams, etc? While possible, one would assume these schools won't be playing for championships anytime soon.
"Michigan and "huge mistake" are synonymous"
+1 b/c of your user name. Just wow.
