PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
With the tackles we are recruiting what position are we recruiting him as?
A tackle with the option to move him to guard if we need to
He will be a tackle. Marcelys will eventually be a guard. Jamarco is a tackle who can switch to guard, if they don't land Knox.
Prince, Eluemenor and Mavety are tackles. Knox is a guard
I remember someone saying J. Jones could also play Center
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
I think while capable of playing Center, watching JJones film, I feel like it'd almost be wasting him if he were to play at Center. Not that a great Center isn't an asset, or that Center isn't an important position, but the way JJones can maul people, I think he could develop into an All-American, even NFL quality OG down the line if things work out for him.
Between JJones and Trout my untrained eye thinks JJ is most likely to slide down to G or C.
What a beast of a line if most of them commit to OSU. Big nasties! I liiiiike it!
Trout has great feet and is very mobile from what I've heard. He matched up the best with Dashawn Hand at the Columbus NFTC because of his great feet, and therefore I'll be shocked if he doesn't end up at tackle. We'll see, but I agree with the consensus that J. Jones is much more likely to move to G and me a masher than Trout.
It will all depend on who wins the role. Jones would be amazing as a tackle so moving him would be a mistake, but then again Trout has the frame to be an All-American Left Tackle. I think Trout needs to gain some weight and build more muscle, so maybe he won't start right away. I think Jones could start right away!
Marcelys is defintely a guard! Knox, guard. Maverty is a big boy that could move to guard if necessary but would most likely be the starting tackle next year with either Jamarco or Jermaine. Prince would be awesome to get because as much as I believe OSU needs a JuCo, I don't think it is necessary to get 2. Prince would be great because he can grow with Trout to take over when the Juco leaves, I assume along with Decker or whoever will start this year.
tackle position after this year,
2014 - probably Decker and Eluemunor. although Mavety, JJones and Dodson. Lisle can't be forgotten either.
2015 - who knows. Decker and one of the JuCos would be very likely unless one of the aforementioned take over. At this time though you gotta believe that one of the elite talents starts to take over out of the bunch. I believe we will really see something with battles against Trout vs. JJones and Lisle vs. Prince.
This discussion shows that if they bring in 6 linemen this year, good problems will be had. And I didn't even get into whoever will come in 2015!
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
Mr. Squirrel, great synopsis. You got me very excited thinking about the hog-mollies in the trenches. I can't wait to see some power football up front with the finesse of our backs in the years to come.
I'm sure someone we wouldn't expect will be moved to guard....I remember no one thought Norwell would be a gaurd esp after he started out at rt tackle but the fact of the matter is they are going to want to get the 5 best lineman out there
^ best post ever ^
Eluemenor is very versatile and can play guard and tackle equally well.
The same thing can be said for Jamarco Jones.
Trout is more of a Tackle.
Marcellus Jones is a pure guard.
Mavety is recruited to play tackle.
I don't understand why people worry about exact offensive line positions during recruiting. It really doesn't matter. You just recruit as many talented linemen as you can and then figure out how exactly to line them up later.
I wonder why there isn't any buzz...ever...about centers. I mean, it takes a different kind of player for that position. You have to concentrate on two things...getting off a perfect snap...then blocking.
But you never hear of an elite center being recruited. Wonder why?
Well we did have Mike Brewster who was a five star recruit. There was also Brian Bobek who was considered a top flight recruit, even though he didn't work out here.
Tackle, but he could switch positions if he gets beat out and proves to be a guard worthy of starting. He doesn't really have the prototypical guard frame, but neither does Alex Boone (6'8") and he's tearing it up right now. I think JJones could play any position on the O-line, but would be adept at playing center particularly because of his high intelligence, required for recognizing defenses and making the line calls.
Alot of times centers are developed at the college level because the speed of the game and different looks by defenses can be overwhelming. As incoming recruits adapt, some are faster learners than others and with the elite level of kids they find a position where they can excel quickly and address an area of need.
Damn it feels good to be a Buckeye....
