PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Seems like he keeps improving, just wasn't likely to get an offer since there are other guys we like better. Good luck to him.
Another one bites the dust...
Very similar to Malik Zaire last year. It'll be very interesting to see who we land at the QB spot.
Calm down. Kizer never even had a Buckeye offer, so I don't know why you'd be surprised.

Hurts us with Brandon Harris some. I wish he would have picked LSU so that Harris would remove them from his list. Still best of luck to Kizer.
IMO Kizer's offer to LSU wasn't commitable until they knew about Harris.
Or they know about Harris and told Kizer no thanks.
This will probably leave the door wide open for Harris at LSU..
As others mentioned probably makes it tougher with Harris. Maybe we can swing Darlington instead. It will be interesting to see how Malik and Kizer turn out by the end of their careers.
Yeah, hoping for Darlington too.
Maybe I missed it, but any word/feedback from Stephen Collier's visit over the weekend?

No chance his offer to LSU was committable. Nothing against Kizer, but I don't see him playing at ND either. You hafta think he'll be behind both Zaire and Gholston for most of his career.
You'd think so but a Troy Smith beat out top ranked QB Justin Zwick and did pretty well here.
Zwick was about as mobile as a statue...with the skill players on the team, I think Smith was bound to start...in fact, when they moved him to WR, I guessed theyd eventually have him at QB, if even in a backup capacity...dude was a baller, just need his chance and got it.
Zwick was very overrated. I tend to think DeShone's career will be better than his.

Gholston, you mean the guy that just got kicked off the team?
Yes that guy, who has also promised to re-enroll at ND for the spring semester. The academic suspension is only for one semester and he has repeatedly said he will be back playing for ND in the fall of 2014
Is Golson still in the picture at ND?
I thought Spurrier was trying to bring him back to his home state.
I'm a friend of thunder is it any wonder lightning strikes me
Formerbuck beat me to it.... :-)
Best of luck to him. I still want Darlington.
Wow, I didn't expect that. It's close, so that probably plays into it. But I was thinking LSU was a bigger draw (and I wanted it to close a door for there for Harris :) )
Guess we put all our eggs on Darlington or Harris. If not, don't take a QB until 2015. Don't know of anyone who might just blow up this season that we would offer.Maybe 11w staff has a few ideas.
We have a whole high school season to watch. What is the hurry, who knows what will turn up?
Congratulations to Kizer. I liked everything I saw of him in interviews, and he appears to be a fine young man. Good luck to him.
Zack Darlington guys. Best option left. Throws the ball well, very quick, plays tough competition, and his dad is a coach (great pedigree). Not too worried about Kizer to ND.
Did Harris commit to another school?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I'm assuming you're being sarcastic, but you know what assuming does right? Harris visited OSU then went home and the next week said Auburn had a good chance of landing him. I'm going to say proximity will play a huge role in his decision. Plus, having JT Barrett redshirt and in the same year as you can't make things easier. Darlington didn't commit to Nebraska so that is a very good sign for us. I like Darlington over Harris anyway. He's a better passer and has been clocked in the 4.4's twice.
Come on brotha! I would expect the man that's the leader of the helmet sticker leaderboard to be better informed!
Don't know why everyone is writing off Harris like there is no shot. IIRC, most everyone thought the same of J.T. Barrett last season, assuming he'd stay in state or choose much closer to home LSU.
Also, don't forget the name Stephen Collier.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
Stephen Collier is very under rated as far as im concerned. Very talented kid. I wouldnt be surprised to see get an offer & be our QB in the class. I think Darlington goes to Nebraska
With JT Barrett redshirting we have our 2014 QB. Id say unless we get someone better why not wait until 2015.
I'm with you Way... I think you stay strong on the offers that are on the table and if those four guys go a different direction then you wish them the best of luck and bring in a QB in '15.
Yep. I know it's a good idea to take one QB every year, but when you're as tight on scholarships as we are, I would not want to see us reach on a kid. If we can't get Watson or Harris or someone equally good, I say use that scholarship on a position of more need like OL.
Way's BACK! Yes you're definitely correct my KY loving guy (Kentucky of course not KY jelly;-) Getting a QB and true TE in this class isn't a must IMO.
no WAY you can pull a player like Harris out of the South....
I don't think it is as much about pulling a player from the south as it is pulling a player from home. The stuff I have seen on the other sites suggests that he is a family oriented kid who really liked Ohio State but is not sure about the distance from home. Personally I think we lose out on both he and Darlington. I don't have any insider info just a gut feeling with Harris, and think Darlington is headed to Nebraska, he is after all being offered a chance to compete right away for a starting spot with Martinez leaving after this year. That's not to say he isn't being offered that everywhere but the Nebraska depth chart seems pretty favorable.
IMO this sets up great for potentially entering back into the Watson sweepstakes. I still really doubt he ends up at Clemson and with these other school all landing QB's I like OSU being open as a potential landing spot. If we do miss on both Harris and Darlington it will be interesting to see how the staff responds. I wonder if they will sit back for a bit or offer a few more players like Collier or Dawkins, or even go after guys committed elsewhere like a Barker, Kizer, or Henderson.
Deshaun Watson is a pipe-dream we need to let go of. With DeMarre Kitt going his way also, Clemson has a pretty strong foundation and a good class coming in with those guys. Two of the top (#3 and #7) TEs in the country, the #6 APB, etc they'll be in good shape offensively and whoever replaces their OC if he leaves for an HC job will likely be the QBs coach or something of that capacity and run the same system.
Gotta agree with WC, hopefully J.T. gets healthy and from there we'll be fine until the '15 class starts to flesh out more (looking at you Jayru Campbell).
I'm in the camp that if we don't land Harris, we wait till 2015 to take another QB. Assuming Braxton stays -- and I'm confident he will, nobody has him even in their top 5 NFL QB prospects -- we still have 3 QBs on scholarship for the 2014 season which is enough. The way I look at it is why use a scholarship on a career back up for depth, when in reality if he needs to play in 2014 odds are we won't be in a position to win many games anyways. Save the scholarship until we get our 3 back and land a stud in 2015
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I may be in the minority, but I wish we would have offered Kizer. He looks very good to me. There is a reason ND wants him. They may have had a few bad quarterbacks over the past few years, but they have also had a few good ones.
So if Harris goes to an SEC school and Darlington goes to Nebraska, who's Urban's plan C D E F?
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
I think the plans look something like this:
Plan A: Watson
Plan B: Allen, Harris
Plan C: Darlington
Plan D: Stephen Collier
Plan E: Wait until '15
I'd prefer plan D, maybe even C, be wait until 15
Just limits our possibilities if the guys tOSU had on the back burner take off for other schools. Doesn't mean it will be a bad thing, but he was for sure one of those "just in case" guys.
I don't always downvote, but I do always downvote a Michigan fan trolling the Buckeye boards.
Who all here has watched Stephen Colliers tape? Now look at some of the other guys we have recruited this year. Collier will see a bump in the ratings soon from his summer camp circuit and after his senior year. Physically he is a good prospect. I would actually say as good as Kizer. His upper body throwing mechanics are better than Kizer's. His team runs a system similar to ours and he runs it well. He has some footwork issues, but so does every other prospect we are after. His arm strength is as good as Darlington's, but below the other prospects. His accuracy is pretty good on most intermediate throws and deep balls. In the elite 11 in Georgia he took Watson to the line all the way in the "pressure cooker". He plays against good competition in Georgia. If he is our last option I would say that is a pretty good last option to have. Just my two cents.
I am all for 2015 but what I think will happen is a possible flip if Miller blows up this year and Meyer shows he can develop a mobile AND ACCURATE Qb under Tom Herman. I am thinking it will be Harris in the end, if we get one. I think Watson is too solid to Clemson especially with Kitt, regardless of what they say.
