I am relatively new to recruiting, and have seen that one topic that has been discussed is how to balance locking down Ohio and recruiting nationwide.
Out of curiosity, I checked out 247's list of top-50 recruits for 2014 and 2015, focusing on where the players are from.
Some states really jump out. For 2014 and 2015 combined, California and Texas each have 11 top-50 players, Georgia has 12, and Florida has 16. Ohio, meanwhile, has 2. (Out of Big 10 states, Illinois has the most with 3.)
To the more knowledgeable recruitniks out there -- is this typical? Has it always been? Because based on these numbers, it seems like Urban has to recruit nationwide if he wants to compete for a crystal. I know that no ranking systems are perfect, and that top-50 lists capture just a fraction of excellent players, but this was definitely eye opening to me.
