Hey my fellow Double1Dubs! Its a darn good Friday! I'm hoping you guys don't mind a bit of amateur camera work, a kid who has a long way to go and hope!
My Nephew is 16 and will turn 17 in September. He is about to go into his junior year. He loves sports and has mainly stuck with soccer his whole life. He is pretty good and was the starting right defender for his varsity team, as a sophomore. He was even on the practice squad as a freshman and started on the JV team.
but he has always loved Football and is a huge Buckeye fan! My brother and I had a bit to do with that.
now for the reason I am writing this,
this past spring the head football coach approached my nephew about being the team kicker. The team is Atherton High School in Louisville KY. They are by far not a competitive team. In fact, Turner said they pretty much lose almost all of their games.
Turner has a long way to go but he has talent. I'm trying to motivate him to practice as much as possible and that he needs to put on at least 20 LBS this summer if he is going to survive even at high school. If he puts in the same effort into this that he did in soccer, he could be good enough to kick for a major university.
We are talking about never playing for an organized team in a league but as a kicker I think he can learn on the fly. Supposedly the head coach is very interested in him.
The following video is something we shot this past weekend. Horrible camera work but you can see that he has the leg.
FYI, his team supposedly is so bad at offensive line we tried some one step kicks which he is very natural at with his soccer background. He was always very good at passing, so accuracy is his skill. Strength we are working on.
The 30 yard kick and 45 yard kick are both into the wind also. Wind was about 5-10 mph. the 60 yard kick was with the wind, so take that with a grain of salt. He is very accurate from about 45 and in. I think he missed about 2 kicks out of the 25 or so from that range. At about 50 or more, it was more like 2 for 12.
Take a look, see what you think. It would be such a huge deal in our family if he played for the OSU football team, or the soccer team too.
