PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
According to Rivals he wants to visit the Buckeyes sometime this summer. I really like this kids highlights!
I remember watching a video of this kid and came away very impressed. Will be interesting to see what happens.
has interest in visiting michigan/nd as well. i know michigan is trying to play up the family aspect of it, as juju smith is samoan, and family/spirituality are especially important to him. michigan FB sione houma is samoan, as is 2014 commit brian mone.
the west coast kids tend to do a who's who stop of the midwest (osu, um, nd). the real question is, what position do you think meyer wants smith as? he has plenty of offers as both a safety and WR (michigan is recruiting him as a safety)
Really difficult to pull these guys out of California. I've noticed a lot of optimism about him on the Michigan 247 board, but I'm still not completely sold just yet. It obviously CAN happen (see Redfield at ND, Baugh at OSU, Magnuson at Mich), but it feels like more often than not these guys flirt with the big Midwestern 3, then end up at USC or UCLA. That said, ND is one team that has surprisingly always seemed to have really good luck with the California recruiting pool.
This guy is definitely a stud, though. Anything can happen once they visit.
i agree. 1 in 10 is a baugh or magnuson, but most express interest and never visit. a few make it out for an official or unofficial, but usually stay close to home. i can't seem to figure that out. kids in the LA area might want to stay close to home, but i would never want to let my kid play for kiffin. way too many weird things going on with that program. seems only a matter of time. and i don't know much about UCLA, but they don't scream perennial top 25 team. the best cali team IMO is stanford, as far as what they bring to the table with recruits. they have academics to rival anyone in the country, a very successful and deep football team, and a great campus. now, if they managed to upgrade the football stadium and figure out how to actually get people to go, watch out...
Where do you get that he is Samoan?
there was an article about him somewhere talking about how important his family is to him (which doesn't help to pull him away from the west coast) and how he's enjoying spending time with his little sisters before he leaves for college, having tea parties and the like. can't find it at the moment, but i'll keep looking
Just curious... John Smith is not your typical Samoan name.
@NMaxwell from report I've read Michigan is recruiting him for safety and WR while the other four schools are looking at him as a safety. Obviously things could change, especially with his senior season coming up.
This recruitment seems eerily similar to Su'a Cravens
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
UCLA=hot girls, USC=hot girls, Go figure
There are hot women at every college.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
It sucks only 8 out of every 10 girls at OSU is pretty hot.. smh
4 out of 10, and that's pushing it
I never get the comments about hot girls. There are PLENTY at OSU. The only difference is they aren't in bikinis or hot pants year-round. Way overplayed IMO.
Just the fact that his nickname is "JuJu" makes me want him on the team!
"It all goes so fast, and character makes the difference when it's close."
I think getting this kid is almost beyond a huge longshot, but I'll never feel totally out of it with recruits we want when we have Urban at the helm. Still, from everything I've heard, if he leaves the west and comes to the midwest then it seems as if Michigan is in the best shape. Still never know what can happen if he visits though!
I've been following Juju's recruitment relatively closely. While I agree that Michigan seems to have the best chance among his midwestern finalists, he comes off as legitimately wide open in his standing. I feel as if he will end up at the school where his visits go best, because he has a terrific group composing his top-5.
It was reported yesterday that Juju will take his official visit to Ann Arbor for the UTL game against ND in early September. I assume he will make his ND and OSU visits in the same time period. Michigan is fortunate to have that game as a recruiting tool yet again, as it paid dividends in 2011, but Juju does seem more intrigued by coaching staffs and campus environments than he does by the lights and glamour.
He is a stud recruit who each of us can only hope takes multiple visits out to the midwest. I don't think he is even half of the "Cali lock" that Su'a was.
Thanks for the info!
The big game visit can go both ways. Typically it's a very good thing (the recruit is impressed by the atmosphere and wants to be a part of it, ala Raekwon McMillan w/OSU during The Game last year), but in some cases it can backfire -- as it did with OSU and Da'Shawn Hand. Hand visited for The Game, didn't get much individual time with the coaches, came away relatively unimpressed with OSU as a result. If I were a Michigan fan, I'd just hope for a close game or a Michigan win (not that you weren't already haha) -- getting blown out in those games can be really deflating for visiting recruits. Meyer's said a few times himself that it's always hardest to talk to recruits after a loss. I think Michigan has a solid shot with ND, though, as they always do.
I agree, those big games can have polar effects on recruits. I remember this year we had a big recruiting day at Crisler (for basketball), I believe it was the game we lost to Indiana to close the season, where recruits came away mightily impressed that Beilein and the staff kept their composure so well after such a heartbreaker. It helped our chances with a few of them, because they saw the "losing environment" and respected it, if you will.
That is what separates coaches', great from the good, IMO. While it's almost always worse to lose than it is to win with recruits on campus, the coaches who hold their own after a big loss seem to always impress recruits. Luckily thus far, Hoke has not lost with recruits on campus. Likewise for OSU and Meyer.
And I'm definitely thrilled for that game. A load of top recruits will be in AA and I want a repeat environment of what it was like two years ago. I know most of you have ill feelings towards the big house, but it was aboslutely rocking that night.
It was definitely a special night...dream-like. Helluva party at the Big House afterwards, too. Hopefully this year's version is a good game for four quarters. Do you think we'll see the Harmon family there this time? I have mixed emotions about it, but I wouldn't be surprised.
How do you feel about Adoree Jackson, Blood? Saw that Michigan is in his unofficial top 4 still.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
Personally I don't see Jackson leaving Cali. He's already been to USC three times in the past 2 months. However, if Michigan can manage to pull Smith and Jackson from California (highly unlikely, but not an impossibility) and land Peppers, I'll concede that UM could have the best DB class of all time. I predict UM only gets 1 of those 3, however
I'm not sure if the Harmon family will be there this year. It's definitely possible.
I feel that Adoree Jackson is a notch above Juju, which is speaking more to Adoree's talent than it is to Juju's. However I don't think we (the midwestern schools) have as good a chance as the Cali schools. USC is looking like the destination for him at this point. It will take an eye-opening visit for him to Mich/OSU/ND to consider him further. He's definitely high on Michigan though, they've stuck around his top-4 for a while now it seems.
I don't disagree at all. It's definitely a long shot. I saw some rumors floating around yesterday that Jackson may be moving back to Illinois for his Senior year. It will be interesting if it happens.
if he does, that helps michigan a lot. aren't they the only midwestern school in his top group?
Yeah, last I had heard. I left my phone at home and Mgo and the Michigan 247sports board is blocked at work so I can't check on any follow ups.
Perhaps he is moving to Illinois but Id be pretty surprised. Damian Prince was supposedly definitely moving to Ohio, and a poster on here even claimed that he talked to a football coach who confirmed he was moving (no disrespect just saying how for real the rumor seemed), but come to find out it was just a rumor. I sure hope Jackson doesn't move as I don't want to see him and Peppers and possibly JuJu Smith at UM.
Get JuJu in Scarlet and Gray!!!
