The Ohio State assistant coaches were racking up the frequent flyer miles again, checking in on some of the top talent in the nation Monday – leading to one football and one basketball prospect each receiving an offer from the Buckeyes.
Tight end coach Tim Hinton made the trek down to Tennessee to see what the Volunteer state had to offer. One of the recruits Hinton visited was 2015 Memphis University School offensive tackle Drew Richmond. Ohio State offered the 6-6 300 pound life long Buckeye fan last month, but isn't the only program to do so; Ole Miss, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Florida and Alabama are just a few of the other schools to send out a full ride scholarship offer to the sophomore.
Saint Paul, Minnesota native Jashon Cornell might remember yesterday for the rest of his life. The 6-4 230 pound class of 2015 defensive end didn't just have defensive line coach and former NFL beast Mike Vrabel in for a visit, the talented Cornell received an offer to join the Scarlet and Gray when he was offered by the Buckeyes. It's still early in the sophomore's recruitment, but he is already building a pretty solid list of over ten potential suitors with OSU joining the likes of Notre Dame, Florida, Iowa and Penn State to name a few.
The Parkway Panthers began their spring practices in Preston Crownover Stadium today. The Panthers have 40 seniors and about 100 players trying out for the team and head coach David Feaster said he wanted to get them out in the stadium to see who are the ones that will get playing time this upcoming season.
One no-brainer is returning quarterback Brandon Harris is attracting a lot of national attention. The senior gun slinger already has around 10 college offers including LSU, Arkansas, and Louisiana Tech to name a few, as well as a handful more who are still looking at him.
At today's kickoff practice, two Big 10 schools were on the sidelines checking Harris out and it's supposed to be like that with plenty of schools this week.
Nabulsi tells us the defensive end from Suwanee GA has narrowed($) his list down to the Crimson Tide and the Dawgs. Sawyer is considered the seventh best DE in the country and visited Athens most recently for GDay. Until then Alabama was considered his top choice. Now it seems to be even.
“I am going to decide in the next two to three weeks,” Sawyer said, “I am not sure which one I am going to pick, but it is down to Alabama and Georgia.”
And momma might be the tiebreaker as he plans to make his next visit(s) with her before he decides in the next few weeks. So put on that winning smile and those dancing shoes Coach Richt. Glad the hip is feeling better.
Urban Meyer is known as one of the best recruiters in college football, and Ohio State certainly has a national draw. For those reasons, it's safe to assume that Meyer and his staff will have their fair share of success in SEC country on the 2014 recruiting trail.
Some of you may be asking: What exactly is SEC country?
Here on the Signed, Sealed, Delivered blog, SEC country is either A) the region where most SEC schools or SEC fanbases are located or B) a region where the SEC seems to have a foothold in regard to recruiting.
Prince might be the best player in the state of Maryland, and he's being chased by plenty of top programs.
Damian Prince, an offensive tackle from District Heights (MD) Bishop McNamara High School, is one of the top prospects at his position in the class of 2014. Prince has offers from numerous major college football programs, including Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina, Southern Cal, Clemson, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech.
Prince, who stands 6'6 and weighs 288 pounds, is a consensus five-star recruit. He is considered the second-best player at his position by 247Sports and the No. 11 overall prospect in the class. Scout and Rivals aren't quite as high on him, as both services consider him a four-star player.
The Ohio State coaches are out in full force again this weekend, checking on prospects all over the nation during this Spring Evaluation period. On Monday, Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Everett Withers was in the state of North Carolina and one of the prospects he checked on was Belmont (N.C.) South Point linebacker Tanner Muse. The 6-foot-4 205-pound prospect has some interest in Ohio State but was surprised by Withers stopping by.
"Coach Withers came by the school (Monday)," explained Muse. "It's a school I'm interested in. (Ohio State) has sent me letters and camp invites but I never thought they would come see me, being so far away."
Muse is aware of the tradition at Ohio State and that is something that has caught his attention when it comes to his interest level in the Buckeyes.
