The Buckeyes are still getting positive reviews across the board of recruits in attendance over the weekend, and the coaching staff is loving the feedback from some of the top players in the country.
It's been nothing but good news on the recruiting front as of late, what with the recent commitment given to Ohio State by '14 LB Kyle Berger and the constant flow of quotes from recruits that have stated the impressive environment in Columbus and around the Buckeye football program.
One of the recruits in attendance this past weekend was '14 P Corbin Daly. Daly doesn't currently hold an offer from Ohio State (most punters aren't really offered until later down the line anyway). In 2012, Daly averaged 47 yards per punt, an impressive feat. Our own Charles Doss caught up with Daly to get a couple thoughts from him and when asked about Ohio State and his visit, here's what Daly had to say:
"The visit went really well. I got to tour and see the football facility, talk to the coaching staff, meet some of the players and talked with them as well. I also took some time with coach Coombs, coach Meyer, and coach (Everett) Withers. OSU is high on my list"
Ohio State the New Favorite for Pivotal 4-Star WR Recruit (bleacher report)
Ohio State is coming off a massive recruiting weekend that saw more than 20 of the top 2014 and 2015 football prospects travel to Columbus for a first-hand look at the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes also made huge strides with a number of high-profile recruits, most notably with 5-star linebacker Raekwon McMillan (an early-week visitor).
Maybe the biggest development of the weekend, though, came when 4-star wide receiver Demarre Kitt named Ohio State his favorite after visiting the campus, according to Bill Kurelic of 247Sports.com.
If things go as planned for the Buckeyes next season, they will have Braxton Miller, Cardale Jones and J.T Barrett all returning at quarterback in 2014. That is a level of comfort that can allow Urban Meyer to stay vigilant in his pursuit of the one quarterback recruit that he wants above all else in the 2014 class.
That one quarterback recruit is Deshaun Watson (6-3 186), out of Gainesville, Georgia. He is currently the only 2014 quarterback that the Buckeyes have offered, and it will probably stay that way a little while longer.
Watson, who is the #1-ranked quarterback in the nation according to Rivals, has been committed to Clemson since February of 2012. Last season he threw for 4,024 yards with 50 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. He also rushed for 1,441 yards and 24 touchdowns. He is the state of Georgia's all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
Clifton Garrett Is "Mr. Nice Guy" (247sports)
Joliet (Ill.) Plainfield South five-star linebacker Clifton Garrett’s film is violent.
The 6-foot-2, 228-pound Garrett flies around the football field slamming into ball carriers with reckless abandonment.
The tape looks downright mean.
Off the field, Garrett couldn’t be any more different. Besides being the top-ranked outside linebacker by 247Sports in the class-of-2014, Garrett is also the “Mr. Nice Guy,” in his class.
“When we go to Clifton’s school for parent teacher conferences, all the teachers are excited to meet us,” Clifton Garrett Sr. said. “It feels so good to see how C.J. carries himself everywhere he goes. He’s a humble and polite kid and it makes me and my wife feel good.”
Selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, before Garrett was running down quarterbacks and running backs, he’d run ahead of his parents to open doors for them when out shopping. College coaches like Ohio State’s Urban Meyer expressed to the elder Garrett that Clifton’s talent’s go beyond the football field.
“My parents have always kept me that way since I was little,” Garrett said.
“He’s a great kid,” Plainfield South head coach Ken Bublitz added. “There is no question about that. His parents are fantastic and I think that’s evident in the way Clifton handles himself and relates to other people.”
Is Edwards Ohio's Top CB? (Scout)
One of the fastest rising prospects in Ohio for the class of 2014 is Cincinnati Winton Woods cornerback Mike Edwards. The four-star prospect has put together an impressive offer list to date.
One of the top players in Ohio for the class of 2014 is Cincinnati Winton Woods cornerback Mike Edwards, and he is currently listed as the number-17 prospect in the state.
"I have 17 offers right now," Edwards stated. "The ones standing out the most would be Kentucky, Louisville and West Virginia, but I'm still in the process of learning about all these schools that have offered."
