There hasn't been a lot of news coming off the recruiting trail for OSU and there aren't many visits lined up in the month of March. Is this because the coaches are on vacations or spring practice? I know they're probably behind the scenes making phones calls and communicating with recruits, but just about everything Urban does in recruiting is publicized by the media and covered by recruiting analysts. It just seems to me that things have been slow lately. I understand this is a smaller class, so Urban will have to be very picky with the kids he wants.

We need someone in this class that is going to be a leader for this class and go out and help recruit other kids as well..so far I don't believe jones is gonna be that guy in my opinion the way he has been flirting with other teams do to speak..
We need to land McMillan the first week of April when he visits. That is the guy that could be our leader for this class. I thought Barker would be the guy, but it doesn't look like he will get an offer. I think he ends up at UT.
We got Campbell working on Booker (and likely some other guys) and Webb working on the guys in Michigan, so it isn't as if we don't have commits doing work for us.
There are some big visits set for April, but having the spring game in Cincinnati might dampen what is usually one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the year.
At first I thought the spring game in Cincy was going to be a horrible idea for recruiting. But why not give the recruits an away game feel. Let them visit Columbus, see the campus, then ride down with the team in some pimped out bus. Or better yet, hop a jet down to the game.
All spring game recruits are unofficial visits. Not sure, but I don't think OSU can provide transportation for unofficial visits which would rule out the team bus idea. Having the spring game outside the Shoe was unavoidable, but I don't think it can be spun into an advantage.
I'd say probably because we're a year out from 2014 NSD. Gonna have to get used to it for a while. We're not going to get a new commit every week at this point. Lotsa time and lotsa recruits.
EXACTLY!!!! Everyone wants to flip out because things are going slow, but look at the guys who have committed to this class so far. One backed out and another is talking about visiting other schools already.
Not sure why the downvote, I was just trying to point out that a commit in March of 2013 for the 2014 class doesn't really mean a whole lot.
I couldn't figure that one out either. I got your back, bro.

Sorry man fat fingered the downvote button.
I offset it for you.
Heard this same thing in early-mid 2012. Things turned out ok.

Whoa now fellas... No one ever said I was worried or freaking out. I merely posed a question as to why the visits were slow and we weren't hearing any news on recruits. I didn't say I wanted a commitment every week or felt we were losing ground to anyone. Most of the time we are reading about coaches visiting recruits at their schools, phone conversations, etc. and we haven't had anything like that the past 2-3 weeks. Don't twist my words into a freak out session.
Remember that track season around the country is either already udneraway or just started. The ACT exam date is right around the corner as well (just less than a month away). And recruits are scheduling spring visits. This is always a slower "news" period every year for the reasons I posted in the first three sentences. Once the spring game visitors hit and the summer months come around, you will hear about camp visits, visits being planned for the fall for official visits, etc, etc, etc.
I never said you were freaking out or anything, just explained why it's slow. This is sort of the norm. This is probably the most dead part of the recruiting year as far as visits, commits, etc. is the months between signing day for the previous class and spring ball starting up. Things'll pick up once camps and what not start taking place. We get used to the breakneck pace of picking up news and recruits on a daily basis coming down the stretch to NSD and then it suddenly stops. We're all just experiencing withdrawal. It's perfectly natural :-)
Don't forget Friday Night Lights this summer.May be even bigger than last year!!Not too worried,we'll get our share of recruits!!
SCOTTC.
Its still very early in 2014. Even if kids commit elsewhere for the time being they can be flipped before signing day. Urban will bust out the spatula later this year I guarantee it.

2014?! Where did last year go?! Most importantly, did we win the National Championship?! #interrobangoveruseftw

I kinda figured the recruiting job Coach Meyer has done his first two tries would give him the benefit of the doubt in any circumstance. I trust him and his staff.

For every team in the country it is 10 months and some weeks before the next singing day. So many visits, so many offers, so many calls, so many emails, so many Facebook messages, etc, etc, before the next football season starts and players take official visits.
Sure it may be nice for the likes of Texas and Texas A&M to basically be 1/4 or more already done with their classes for this recruiting cycle, but look where the schools are based....lol.
Things always get a bit slow during spring ball and then pick back up right after leading into another pretty slow period during the summer. This isn't surprising to me, especially when you think that this is staff's first class where they have had the time foster relationships with a lot of top guys. As a result I think commits in this class will come more slowly than last year, additionally, this will be a smaller class which obviously will lead to the staff being more selective.
I think why some people are restless is we all expected a faster start. Even Alex predicted 8 guys in the class at least by April but that's not looking like the case now. Recruiting is crazy and even experts like Alex who is rarely wrong cant predict exactly how things will play out. I think if we're patient we'll be happy when the results do come
I don't think anyone is really concerned but this has always been the dead period so this slowness(if you will) is pretty usual.
