Xavier Gaines of Frostproof (FL) just got an offer from the Buckeyes, per Luke Stampini at 247Sports. Gaines already has offers from Florida, Clemson, Florida State, and UMass, and now adds OSU to that list. At 6-2/210 he has great size for a freshman and as you'll see in the video below, looks pretty good on the field too.

It's going to be a long time until this kid is on a college campus, but that film is impressive for a freshman
Was just about to say the same thing!!2016?? Guess we gotta keep pace with the way recruiting works now a days.
SCOTTC.
I want this kid like yesterday. The very first throw rolling away from his strong side and to chuck it that far down field with out fully squaring his shoulders is amazing. Kid has some wheels also for his size and good balance. Scary thinking he is only going to be a sophomore in high school.
edit: Every throw he makes on the run shows just how much of a cannon this kid has.
This kid is fantastic. Cannon arm, good footwork for a Freshman, and he can flat out run past people. Sign this kid up.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
Gaines and Bosa would be an awesome Florida pair
wow. Based on his film he'd get a bunch of big offers if he was even in the class of 2014.
want...
Wow, he looks like he could be ready for college ball in year from now. That very first play screams DI prospect. Great poise and size for a freshman.
I literally said "That's a freshman, what the f*&^!?!!?!" while looking his highlight video. Darn, he could play for an college like now.
I'm surprised seeing there's no competition in or around Frostproof. Still a little iffy on this offer, but it's very early.
Go after Danny Clark from Massillon insted of this kid
I would disagree, Gaines is absolutely insane. Ohio kids will get their shot, and most won't get the call due to Urban's national attempts.
you havent seen clark play, thats the only logical reason you disagree. Clarks been a national name since 7th grade (was invited a all american football game in 7th and 8th grade) and back durring last football season was ranked as high as the 17th best player in the nation in his class.
I have no opinion on this, as I haven't studied either athlete. But it sounds like the only logical reason you say Clark is clearly the better QB is because you've watched him play in person or have some sort of connection to him
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Or you know its because he's already been invited to visit Tenn, Alabama, ND, Ohio State, Played in All-American games for Jr High kids, ranked very high overall for the class, etc ,etc etc
I'm not denying the kid is good, probably great. But you can't use that logic then ignore the fact that Gaines has been offered by OSU, Clemson, Florida, and Florida State already. I'm sure both QBs will be heavily recruited up until NSD 2016
Edit: after some research it looks like Clark is a 2017 QB (was in 8th grade last football season), so there is absolutely no reason OSU shouldn't recruit both
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Because the spot could be better used elsewhere and just recruit Clark the next year
Urban has made it quite clear that he intends to recruit one quarterback per year. And on top of that, you still haven't given me a reason why Gaines big time college offers shouldn't be considered as a reason OSU should take him when Clark has nothing better. I'm not saying Clark won't be amazing, but if you don't think Gaines is an incredible QB for a freshman you're biased for one reason or another.
plus the kid is in 8th grade, and Gaines is a freshman. Lets see how he does against HS competition and not junior high. Gaines proved himself against Varsity athletes, and I'm sure Clark could do the same next year. If he does I'm sure he too will get an offer
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
@BrutusCraft, Can you post anything substantial? You claim a lot of facts but I don't see any sort of backing up for anything you say. It seems all personal, like you're blinded by your fanhood and personal ties. It seems like you're just trolling between your posts and attacks. I apologize I trust professional opinion rather than "seeing him live", cause that's the only logical reason (sarcasm font now off).
This kid has a physical skill set that would make him stand out even among 2014 QBs.
We should just have him visit with Nick Bosa a few times.
I was sold on this kid after seeing the first play on this highlight tape (RH QB rolling to his left and throws a 50yd strike on the money). As a coach all I can say is wow.
Yah I mentioned that too. People in the pro's have trouble with that throw... Let alone a high school freshman. The crazy part is how much velocity he put on the ball rolling away like that.
Umm. anyone know the kid at the 1:51 mark that went up and got that 40 yard back shoulder throw. He looks to be a player also...
When I read the name I knew he was good. Then I saw the film..... DAMN
