I am hearing that Dave Dickerson will be at JaQuan Lyle's sectional game tonight. Lyle will also probably be at the OSU/IU game (assuming on behalf of IU but a win could be impactful)
edit - just saw this was mentioned on the quick bits...sorry

Don't worry,...somtimes things get buried in quick bits...kid is discussion worthy however, probably be more at home in the b-ball forum
This is the recruiting forum, so it probably should go here. There isn't a modifier before the word recruiting that indicates it should be limited to just football. Kid is a stud.
Looks like Lyle is down to OSU, IU, Louisville, and Illinois.
I'm curious why Matta isn't going to his game as well. 247 says that Crean and Pitino have both visited him in the last couple weeks. Perhaps Matta is visiting another prospect.
Would be a HUGE get at a position of need.
I will comment on his play tomorrow. The team I cover plays after him so I am going early to watch him. This will the 5th time I will see him play. I am interested to see how he plays in a win or go home game (they should win with ease). Sometimes starts out slow against lower level teams but when he turns it on he is unstoppable.
I think we have a great shot with Lyle. Since he's a class of 2014, Craft will be gone and Scott will be a senior his freshman year. Who is next in line? Everything I've read about class of '13 Kameron Williams is that despite the fact that he is 6'3, he is a SG. I've read comparisons to Juan Dixon. So, Lyle could step in as a frosh, learn from Scott, and then be the guy for three years. Really hoping we can land a PG in this class too.
i think he is like 6'5" so i doubt he would play pg, but i really don't know much about him
Most recruiting sites I've read list him as a PG and project him playing there in college.
Yeah he will play pg. He had a triple double tonight in the sectional championship game. Wasn't there to see it but from everything I've heard, he dominated (again)
oh ok. so hes kinda like the next michael carter williams size wise
Yeah. He plays off guard at times because of his team not being tall, but plays the point a good amount and when the team needs him to.
that's is to be expected in high school. our tallest guy at my school for the team was like 6'6"
JaQuan Lyle had 41 points, 21 rebounds and six assist. He would have had a triple-double but some shots weren't converted. When he wanted to do something he was unstoppable. With another year in high school, it could be scary how good he gets.
So he had a decent game, I wonder if his offer is committable?
This would be HUGE for us. Great player at a position of need? Yes please.
Anyone heard any updates on Jahlil Okafor? I see now Rivals has him listed as the #1 player in the country. I haven't heard anything about his recruiting for a while, but I remember reading about how he was very high on Ohio State last year and had struck up somewhat of a friendship with Jared Sullinger. I'd hope we're still in the mix for him. We should have a pretty good pitch to him. tOSU's regionally close, a contender year in and year out, we're razor thin at center and he could come in and start over any big men on our roster from day one, and we're looking at a recruiting class for this year's class that's going to be stacking up as one of the best in the country (based on the commits we already have and the players we're in the running for). I miss Sullinger so much this year and am sick of watching the absolutely anemic play we're getting from our big men this year. I know Amir's still a project but he really hasn't shown any consistent signs of life or growth. If we're able to bring in Okafor and another player like Lyle and we've got ourselves the top class in the country hands down.
I believe he has a commitable offer, he just doesn't know where he wants to go. He has IU, Illinois and Louisville coming at him strong. This performance was also in front of an OSU assistant.
Would love to have this kid
Lyle is alot like Jason Kidd, not the most athletic but smart, Plays good D, and can rebound very very well for a PG, except Lyle can shoot
Have you seen Lyle play? Dude is an amazing athlete who can jump out of the gym.
More to jumping then being an athlete, he's not the quickest or fastest guy
I have watched him play 4-5 times and have been impressed with his speed. While I see what you are saying, maybe comparing him to Kidd is a little off.
Absolutely need a PG in '14 class. Great to have a guy with great size for the position that can score and rebound.
I think the 2 biggest teams here are Ohio State and Indiana, Indiana has Ferrell whos probably a 4 year guy so he'll be there for 2 more years after Lyle is a freshman and Indiana just signed a 4 * SG this class who looks like a 3-4 year guy, and already have a 4* guy locked up for SG in the 2014 Class, so theres at least 2 years of Lyle splitting time and taking away his profile to the NBA. meanwhile we havent signed a PG since Scott who would be a SR when Lyle is a Freshman, and Lyle could even be good enough to get some run with Scott like we are seeing with Craft and Scott. Kentucky has the same loaded back court problem with Goodwin, the Harrisons, Young from Michigan and DeAngelo Russell who they could play as a PG like Brandon Knight a few years ago a SG in a PGs body.
Ohio State has the clearest road for PT in his supposed top 3 and Matta has a great track record of developing PGs
In all honesty, I don't understand why a big time guard with good playmaking skills would not want to come to Ohio State. I don't mean just a point guard, but even a swingman who can handle the ball, and is a pretty good passer.
Thad Matta puts the ball in his playmaker's hands - it's a proven fact. When he had Conley (and even Ron Lewis), he gave him the ball and told him to run with it. Conley basically had free reign. Then, the year after he basically did the same for Jamar Butler. Evan Turner - same story. Aaron Craft... you guessed it.
Matta is a player's coach on offense, as far as free reign, shot selection, taking chances, etc. He doesn't yank a guy after a turnover or two. He wants you play freely, take shots you feel comfortable with, and so on. Multi-dimensional players absolutely thrive in his offense because he allows them to showcase their skills.
If I'm Lyle, or any other big-time prospect who can do a lot of different things, Ohio State is one school I look extremely hard at in the recruiting process, especially "in between" cycles of having that type of guy on the roster. Right now, the guy Matta trusts with the ball is Craft. When Craft graduates, will Scott have earned that trust? Maybe, but also maybe not to the extent it has been granted to the other guys I've listed. Come in as a frosh and earn that trust, and as long as you are a Buckeye you'll have the chance to do some great things.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
Pitino is going after him hard as well. Don't discount Louisville.
The number one player I would like to see in Columbus is Okafor, and word is where he goes T. Jones is going as well. I don't think Lyle will come here if that happens but if Jahlil falls through then this young man needs every bit of Thad's attention. I love his game and his skill set
we have a much better shot with Lyle then Jones, i get the feeling Jones just has us in there because we are at the top for Okafor
There is no doubt that Lyle has all the skills necessary to be a really good one. However, he has a tendency to be a head case - was suspended for three games this season for fighting a teammate outside of the team bus, and his teammates are not too fond of him....
And Lyle is officially off my want list. If your teammates, the people who should be like your family, hate you you're probable a pretty big asshole.
IF this is true then he sounds like a perfect fit for IU. Then all his teammates can pretend to punch him in the nuts. It seems pretty obvious Crean has them practicing this technique.
John Groce is suppose to be at his practice today
Lyle was supposed to be unofficially visiting IU yesterday for the game with OSU.
good lol
I'd rather get Tyus Jones and have Jahlil Okafor follow him here. Keep the Whitney Young Pipeline flowing.
Lyle is suppose to cut his list of teams to six after his game(s) this weekend. I think OSU is at the bottom of his favorites but should make the cut.
final 6. Florida, Indiana, Louisville, Ohio State, Tennessee, & Illinois (no order).
Proof?
He tweeted it. Said earlier this week he would be announcing it after his game today. They lost in the regional semi-finals
What a pathetic group that post here "downvote" for asking for proof, HA! get a f*cking life
Scouts has a story up but I don't have an account so I can't see what Lyle had to say.
