Your Bold Predictions

So during this recruiting/ pre-spring ball dead period I figured we could have some fun. Make one recruiting bold prediction and one upcoming spring ball or fall season prediction could be a players yardage, tackles, sacks, touchdowns, starting position...ect and lets see if anyone can predict the future. This isn't meant to get anyone down votes based on their predictions just for fun. I'll up vote everyone who posts.

Recruiting: Next NSD we land Garrett and Booker and miss on McMillian and Berger (considered heavy buckeye leans I don't hope this happens just a prediction)

Springball: Williams beats Grant out for MLB who then moves to the DL, Cardale Jones has a good spring ball/spring game and turns some heads

Super hard to get any hardware if you aren't hyped in preseason and didn't start last year.  Especially hard for a guy on D with no sack responsibilities.

Even if he is LIGHTS OUT (and boy am I hoping you are right), the chance of C Grant being named to any list is remote at best

Barring an unlikely number of breakout players, the B1G is not deep at LB this year. If Curtis Grant were to have numbers comparable to Shazier, it would be hard to ignore him from a list like second team all-conference.

Recruiting:  We have #1 class and land McMillan, Berger, Booker, and Garrett.  Unfortunately we miss on Hand, but as long as he doesn't go to scUM it's fine.

Braxton Miller

229-339 for 3,199 yards. 28 TDs, 12 INTs. 187 rushes for 1102 yards and 13 TD's-second in the Heisman behind Teddy Bridgewater. Misses time in 5 games.

Carlos Hyde

221 Rushes for 1233 yards and 19 touchdowns. Doak semi-finalist.

Philly Bown 61 catches 1021 yards and 8 TDS

Ryan Shazier-151 tackles, 89 solos. 15 TFL, 7 sacks, 2 INT, 5 FF and a DTD for good measure-Butkus award winner.

Bradley Roby gets 'Shawn Springs'd'. Has a statistically awful year because teams flat out refuse to throw at him in his last year in Columbus (Sadly). Pundits will think he regressed, actual observation will tell you he had a great year because he lands on the AP First team All American team.

Just out of curiosity I'm not trying to bash your prediction (i upvoted you) but what makes you think Baugh will be very successful next season? I'm curious cuz I've seen several ppl post about this and say that he's gonna get in the 2 deep and rotation and have a ton of receptions. I personally don't see it with Vannett and Heuerman in front of him I feel he could edge out Blake Thomas for the #3 role but even then I don't see him getting significant playing time or touches unless were up big. I do however seeing him being a BIG special teams contributer his first year. If anyone else feels the same way chime in cuz I wanted to here the other point of view.

I am also on the Baugh bandwagon. I really think he is a player that Ohio State has not had possibly ever. A fast, athletic, powerful tight end. Also with his speed and quickness that I see in his film along with being 6'5" I could see him being well used in the red zone. Also with the other weapons on offense matching him up against most B1G linebackers is a nightmare for opposing D-coordinators and Tom Herman is going to have a lot of fun with that.

Lol, ok guy, your right, dropped td's aren't "game killers." I'm sorry did I say that? No. I did not.  However even though I never said that, I'll give you something that make work for your butthole tight logic: Third quarter DROPPED touchdown passes, can have, and usually do have, a HUGELY NEGATIVE effect on your chances to beat the eventual undefeated national champions lead by the second best player in the nation (according to the heisman vote).  It also makes it worse that the poor OSU defense held VY to one of his least productive games of the season then had to watch as OSU settled for 3 FG's on 3 forced turnovers, one of those coming from Ryan Hamby's drop.

DISCLAIMER: I wasn't one of the idiots who sent the poor guy death threats

BrewstersMillions's picture
BrewstersMillions on 28 Feb 2013 - 11:25pm #

You're so good at English.

1) Third Quarter anythings aren't the reason any team loses a close game.

2) Texas was not the undefeated national champions when OSU played them. Had OSU won that game, Texas would not have been undefeated, nor the national champions so I'm not sure what you are hinting at there. Good choice on the bold though-now I know what you meant, except of course I don't.

3) So three field goals after 3 turnovers is bad right? Yet Hamby's dropped pass that lead to a field goal is somehow worse? JT lost that game homey. Couldn't make a decision on Smith or Zwick and no offense ever in the history of anything ever has ever succeeded with dual QB's in the same game.

Blame Hamby though (not the first time you have). Its easier than pointing the finger at the culprit-Tressel (and to a lesser extent, Nate Salley for getting burned to the corner by Limas Sweed)

Hit the nail on the head about Tressel.  Alternating 'twixt Smith and Zwick completely robbed the offense of any semblance of continuity; making sustained momentum a chore.

Knarcisi on 28 Feb 2013 - 11:44pm #

Smith stays out of trouble in the offseason and he is the starter. He was bad in that game too, and 2 weeks later at PSU. He actually didn't turn the corner until the MSU game that year. I remember it well. There was actually talk of going to Boeckman if neither could sake claim to the starting job. What a turnaround. Finished the season the way he did, lit up ND, and wins the Heisman the following year.

BrewstersMillions's picture
BrewstersMillions on 28 Feb 2013 - 11:49pm #

Neither guy had a chance to be good in that game. I hate hate hate hate dual QB systems, especially when you have a 'passer' and 'runner', even though Smith was a great passer and Zwick was a severly under rated athlete-the point is, the offense changes depending on who's behind center and in that game more than any, it was obvious the 'wealth' of talent at QB did you in. I'm of the mind that if either guy was named the starter and JT stuck with them, OSU would have mopped the Shoe with Texas. Kevinfrenchfry did make one good point-OSU played some big boy defense in that game. If the offense has the ability to get behind one guy-Troy or Justin-OSU sends them back home with their tails between their legs. For every great OSU defensive stop, there was an inconsistent offensive sputter becuase of QB instability. Hamby is as much to blame for that game as one of the Coke vendors in the stands was. That was one of JT's worst games as an OSU head coach.

Did you hate it with Stanley Jackson and Germaine as much as I did?  I remember saying that when Jackson started, it was like a 10 point, 1st quarter spot. I saw Germaine throw for 400 in 3 quarters in Happy Valley. Too bad our D gave up 300 on the ground that night.

kevinfrenchfry's picture
kevinfrenchfry on 1 Mar 2013 - 8:13pm #

1) any play at any point in any game can negatively or positively affect the momentum

2) it was to clarify how good that texas team was and how bad it can be to have a dropped pass in a game of that magnitude, find it kind of ridiculous you even brought that up when I wrote "eventual" so obviously I am aware of that genius

3) I agree that the 2 QB, for lack of a better word, "system" was the main contributing factor in the loss, an I have never ever been a proponent of it.  While the game was close, ohio state never had the momentum, IMO and that would've been the moment it shifted had he caught that pass.

4) when it comes down to it, i was attempting to make a somewhat funny reply to the comment about OSU never having a TE like baugh, at least not recently. So i cant exactly figure out what got you pot stirring so much

5) When 11w adds to the commenting policy that every comment must be in correct english, with complete and proper punctuation and spelling then i will happily oblige

p.s.: I mean come on...seriously?

BrewstersMillions's picture
BrewstersMillions on 2 Mar 2013 - 12:43pm #

What got me pot stirring so much is that to this day, that play is-in a lot of fans minds-the reason Ohio State lost and its just flat out incorrect, lazy analysis. It also demonstrates a core failure to point to this game as one of Jim Tressel's worst blunders.

Not sure what posting that video is supposed to do. At :08, my point is proven for me. 22-16 with 5:12 to go....in the third quarter. Its sticking to the idea that that pass had something to do with the loss and it didn't-not any more than any other play in that game. Its the failure to acknowledge that by SO many OSU fans who still see that play and let it sting them that drives me insane.

Brewster: you're right that Hamby's drop - in the 3Q - could not have been the reason the Buckeyes lost (caused the loss).

However, the idea was that Hamby's drop was a lost opportunity: if Hamby had caught it, then the Buckeyes' chances of winning that game would have gone up considerably.

Recruiting-- Bucks have highest 247 composite average per player rank. (Will be top-5 team but not top team because of lower number of players) I do think they will get 5-7 of the 247 top 100.

Season-- Bucks go to the NC game. Top 10 offense and top 10 defense. Braxton is Heisman finalist (top 3) and defense allows less than 14 points per game.

- Buckeyes are Big Ten Champs, go 13-0
- Win National Championship against Bama

- Corey Smtih will be the 2nd leading receiver behind Devin Smith
- Jalin Marshall will have 7 total TDs
- The DL will have 25 sacks
- Shazier, Grant, and Perry are starting LBs
- Roby & D. Grant will be best CB tandom in the Big Ten
- Roby stays for his senior year

I think Baugh is a slightly different animal then Vannet and Heuerman, I think he brings the "almost a WR type but in a TE body thing", if that makes sense..He is too big for DBs to cover and to fast for LBs..I think ideally Urban would like a quicker more elusive TE in his offense, which we hope is Baugh.. Also people talk about how unique it was that Baugh committed before visiting, I think it also speaks volumes on the flip side, that Meyer took the kid's commitment before he visited as well. This was a bold prediction, so I wouldn't be shocked if it didn't turn out this way, but I do think Baugh has a very productive career.

otrain2416's picture
otrain2416 on 28 Feb 2013 - 4:44pm #

I see your point there although I think Vannett has proved at times he has the speed to stretch the defense. Only problem with your argument I see is I feel Stoneburner fell in that same category as Baugh and was flexed out due to our lack of depth at WR which I disagreed with but hey Urban went 12-0 I can't complain. But it seemed like Stoneburner was always covered by DBs except when we moved him inside and he could use his speed against LBs like in 1:31 in his highlight reel. This was my main reason to keep a guy like him at TE verse flexed out. If Baugh truly does have elite speed for a TE when he comes into camp I see your point

d1145fresh's picture
d1145fresh on 28 Feb 2013 - 6:48pm #

Another difference thought is Baugh is going to have a lot of speed around him that DB's will have to cover. No chance a linebacker can cover Wilson, Smith, Marshall so it will have to be a safety (which I still think will be a struggle) or another DB brought in. This will open up Baugh to be matched up against a linebacker and I think he wins that battle. Stoney didn't have the additional weapons around him so he had to spread out and be covered by a DB.

Set your avi
Borrowed Time on 28 Feb 2013 - 6:27pm #

don't really see it as an impossibility... Rod Smith is more talented than Hyde, but has more potential downside as well (fumbling). Hyde is just super consistent, which we need as the compliment to Braxton.

but again, if Rod Smith becomes as consistent as Hyde (in the realm of possibility) then he surpasses Hyde.

kevinfrenchfry's picture
kevinfrenchfry on 28 Feb 2013 - 6:34pm #

hyde has to regress for rod smith to lose his starting job, which means you predict that to happen as well

Set your avi
Borrowed Time on 28 Feb 2013 - 6:41pm #

not necessarily. consider this scenario... hyde gets a little better next year (or stays at the same level), but smith suddenly has it click for him, and shows his explosion, raw power, and speed, while finally learning how to hold on to the football, then he's the starter, in my opinion. carlos hyde will get you 4 yards consistently, but smith has the potential to do so much more each play, while still being able to run between the tackles.

point being... hyde does not have to regress to lose the starting job, smith just has to have it click mentally.

kevinfrenchfry's picture
kevinfrenchfry on 28 Feb 2013 - 7:00pm #

FIVE yards consistently*, I'm not gonna give a downvote because I don't wanna be that guy but I just simply have no respect for this opinion.  Do you really think Hyde is going to let someone take his cookies, the guy was complaining about his playing time as a freshman. I love Rod smith and I would love to see him break 500 yards but you also have to think about even if that DID happen it would take probably what? Six games for that change to happen? Hyde will get at least 18-20 caries a game and will own against Buff, SDSU, CAL & Fla A&M.  Wiscy always has slugfest potential.  NW is the first chance I see for Rod Smith to OUTSHINE Carlos as I see that game being the first high scoring, while somewhat competitive game.  4.9 ypc, 16 td's, 970 yds (and should have had more carries, AND was injured)

when has that stopped anyone? ashton youboty comes to mind for me. Rod's potential has no ceiling but its just that potential.  He also had alot of "potential" in the sugar bowl practices, then we were asking if we were ever going to see him again, luckily hes been able to bring himself back from the dead and has a second shot to live up to the potential that he has now built, destroyed, and rebuilt again

hcazualcc's picture
hcazualcc on 28 Feb 2013 - 7:09pm #

rod smith is better.  carlos hyde is consistent, but he isn't owed a starting position simply because he's the incumbent starter or because he passed on the draft.

kevinfrenchfry on 28 Feb 2013 - 7:23pm #

didn't say that either, hate to point this out but look at alabamas rb's then look at carlos hyde, then look at how many NCG's saban has won. By the way in the history of football better talent NEVER means better player, and lets get real rod smith isnt more explosive, hes faster, and when hyde gets his chance to break one, to the outside lets not pretend he can't

I agree with French Fry. The ONLY way Hyde loses the starting RB to Smith is if he tears his ACL. And I hope to God that doesn't happen! I realize there are a lot of RSmith boosters on 11W, and I like him too, but he is not going to be handed the starting RB position as long as El Guapo is still in C-bus. Predicting otherwise is definitely bold.

2014 will be Rod's year to prove if he can do it and handle the pressure.

I believe that Braxton will be OSU's 1st 4000 yard man, in combined passing and rushing yards, with over 40 td's. I believe this offense will be unlike any the BIG has ever seen.  Our Bucks will run the table and proceed to the National Championship game against a team from outside of the SEC. There we will win. Braxton will win another Silver Football as well as the Heisman Trophy. Our receivers will all bask and share in the statistical outbreak. Look for at least 6 receivers to each have over 5 td receptions; the running game will experience a drop-off only because of the proficiency of the passing game. Therefore, Carlos Hyde, may be thinking in retrospect...um maybe I should have taken my talents to the league, Good news is he's a team player and nothing compares to winning and hoisting the National Championship Trophy in the air.

The defense, led by sophomores Noah Spence -shoutout to Harrisburg, and Diesel Washington will create mayhem on the d-line. I see Spence having at least 17 sacks, and causing other players in the front 7 to benefit from his explosive play. Lb'er RDS will be a 1st team All-American and Butkus winner and will cause offenses to constantly 2nd guess themselves. This will leave our back 4 the luxury of setting OSU records in picks and return yardage off these picks. It would not surprise me to see the Bucks score at least 10 defensive td's this year alone.

This team along with the outstanding leadership of UFM will go down in history as the greatest offensive show in BIG history. The defense could be just as good. Great time to be a BUCKEYE.

I love the freshmen coming in, but a lot of these kids are not just going to come in and take over for the guys we have.  The offense has almost every starter back from an undefeated team.  And on defense, most of the open spots are going to be gobbled up by players already in the system (Washington, Spence, Grant, etc).

My bold prediction is that Jordan Hall is the offensive MVP of the team (yes, over Miller).  I see the team trying to limit Miller's exposure to hits now that they have more effective resources around him that have a year in Herman's system.

Miller will win the Heisman (I don't think this is that bold of a prediction though).

Citrus's picture

Rod Smith becomes quite the receiving threat out of the backfield. 7 total TDs 4 of which are catches.

Carlos Hyde doesn't quite make 1,000 yards because he is slowed down by a sprain but he is very good when he does play.

Dunn carries the ball early and quite well averaging 6ish yards a carry. He disappears midseason only to emerge against TTUN with a key play or two to seat a tOSU win.

Brax's passing drastically improves but he has less long runs. 24TD passes 9 INTs 2400 700 rushing yards

Eze barely sees the field.

Michael Thomas leads team in TD catches.

Mike Mitchel blocks a punt and finishes the year with 3 sacks in limited duty.

Adolphus Washington is a ridiculous force 8 sacks

DLine causes so much pressure and DBs are so good that most teams try a run heavy approach v the Buckeyes. The Silver Bullets frustrate us because they seemed to be gashed too often but are remarkably stout when it counts. Cause many turnovers and points are scarce.

The Buckeyes go to Pasadena and beat either Oregon or Florida
