Per Tim May:
Anticipation was high in Ohio State circles that the Buckeyes could land a commitment from blue-chip slotback Dontre Wilson of DeSoto, Texas, perhaps as soon as today. National letter-of-intent signing day is Wednesday.

It was reported last night that Wilson will announce tonight at 9pm central time.
It's gray box lookout time AND,... Peanut Butter jelly time, peanut butter jelly time!
Hopefully...
There it is!!!!
:)
Peanut butter jelly, peanut butter jelly, peanut butter jelly and a baseball bat.....
D. Anthony
lol just kidding....No but seriously we will be bad ass if we land this kid....
So, does anyone know where we can watch this live? I know 11W will cover well, but I wanna see it live! I, for one, am hoping we soon have the quickest, sickest offense in OSU history. I'm probably not alone in that opinion....
Hopefully the staffs efforts on recruiting this kid even though he was still commited pays off tonight. Gotta tip my hat to Coach Herman if we get that coveted grey box this evening.

Stay golden, Ponyboy.
it is always a great day to be a buckeye, some days are greater than others.
I've seen a lot of tweets from "JBook" lately. Who is this guy? Is he affiliated with any site or does he just relay info he finds?
He buys subs to different sites and tweets what they say w/o providing a link. Most times he gives credit, none of it is his own information.
He relays info from most/all the recruiting sites. It is a nice resource for quick, wide ranging, condensed info.
I would agree it's a nice resource, but I'm surprised none of the sites he subs to have terminated his subscriptions. They all have disclaimers about posted their exclusive information, with at-will clauses that you agree to when you subscribe. Especially since guys like Wiltfong make their livlihoods off of subs.
You would need to be able to prove who he is first... his username probably not the same on teh script sites, and different than the twitter handle.... Age of digital media = why pay for subscriptions!! I can see 11w staff having them, but I'd rather pay a donation to 11w than buy the pay feeds!

Just relays/aggregates info. None of it is original, but I generally check it every few days for info that doesn't make its way to 11W (rarely happens)
Nice!!

I love this ^. Reminds me of something my daughter would do.
My youngest daughter used to do something similar to this when we'd take off driving some where. Of course now she's 3 1/2 going on 4 so it's all, "I love Justin Beeber...I want to kiss him on the lips." Oh how they grow up so fast right;-)????

U Sure that wasn't your wife saying that about Bieber?!?!

Gosh I hope not....I could see the dudes from Twilight...but Bieber's a bit young. That be like me saying to her..."Hey hunny...that Salina Gomez is hot!" Something tells me she'd say to stop sounding like a pedophile named Eric Waugh...and I saw your pick on a telephone pole in town. Looked something like this...

I'm a friend of thunder is it any wonder lightning strikes me
I wish - the girl in the gif looks nice and gentle. My two-year old daughter is also hilarious and loves to dance, but she ain't gentle . . .
Like, if I take my eyes off my eyes off her for three seconds, she is usually trying to climb a 20-ft tall industrial crane, or she's beating up her six year old brother.
Other times, I have to go into a tutle posture before she can punch me in the nuts (because I won't give her candy or something).
My daughter doesn't have a brother, but everything you said is spot on and its almost scary. lol Oh kids.
Yes, kids are both awesome and stress-inducing. Thing is, I probably (unintentionally?) encourage my two-year old girl to be a hellion. Without realizing I'm even doing it, I might be preparing her for the day when some 15-16 year old casanova comes knocking on the door.
Ya, I will be the dad that scares them all off with the, let me clean my gun while we discuss when you will have my daughter back tonight conversation. My daughter is not going to like me much probably.
I saw they think he'll play the slot (Harvin) position or whatever...I thought Jalin Marshall was going to play there? Anyone think he gets moved to the outside or is it competition at it's finest and may the best man win?
Marshall showed the ability to play on the outside at the UA game. They'll find space/time for both of them. The more speed the better.
Agreed. I'm already giddy for spring practices to start.
I forget, is Marshall enrolling early?
No, I don't believe he is. I'm just jonesing for Buckeye football already.
Yikes, it's only February.
Nope, Jalin stayed to play hoops and run track and then promptly tore his shoulder up at the UA game and missed the rest of hoops season...
If both Marshall and Wilson turn out to be elite dynamic playmakers, they'll both be on the field a lot together. Of course, you never can tell for sure whether a prospect will be an elite player, so it's always advisable for the coaching staff to improve its odds . . .
sort of related...i was reading through rivals and they have marshall's 40 time as 4.66? feeling like that can't be right.
the kids are playing their tail off, and the coaches are screwing it up! - JLS
It is his laser time from The Opening. Everyone But Mike had shitty ones. Cam's will make you cry.
ah yeah, cam at 4.57...figured it had to be something like that. good lord, shows you how fast mitchell is though.
the kids are playing their tail off, and the coaches are screwing it up! - JLS
I thought that it misfunctioned on Jalin's 40, and he chose not to run it again?
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
That's what happened. He ran a 4.41 at a camp prior to the opening.
Follow me @jaythesportsguy
spread em out and pass to set up the run! LOVING THIS!!
"Statistics always remind me of a fellow who drowned in a river where the average depth was only three feet." - Coach Woody Hayes
It's gonna be first come first serve at some of the positions to either who learns the offense or defense faster and does what the staff wants and returners actually having to deal with competition and not have a spot locked up for years just because they played the year before with no one underneath them pushing them to the best level possible
From the sounds of all the things I have read, Marshall, Jacobs, EZE, Wilson and Clark have been told they would fill the "Harvin" type role sooo it sounds like we are going to have a lot of Harvins running around kicking ass hahaha. But seriuosly, who said anything about not having enough playmakers, this offense is only going to get better.
They can be on the field at the same time, for sure. Put as much speed as possible, and look out. Nobody in the B1G will be able to match it.
Zeke, Marshall, and Wilson could all be on the field at the same time in future when we adopt the diamond formation. A lot of options out of that set.
Those 3 with Braxton on the field at the same time. 2014 when those guys have their feet wet, WOW.
Yep, they will get the ball to every kid they think can make plays. No worries.
Heard Ohio State was the pick a couple days ago

The F5 button just doesnt refresh fast enough when I'm looking for a gray box of glory.
Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
He's not announcing until tonight at 10:00pmEST, I believe. Do you can save that F5 key some wear and tear until then, if you want.
Misinterpreted it for AM. Thanks Gray Box. Ps. I miss you.

One of the recruiting analysts (I forget which) showed that Meyer got Harvin, Demps and Rainey 290 touches in 2008.
Recruiting Wilson has absolutely zero to do with moving Jalin outside. It has to do with Meyer wanting more weapons and flexibility. Jalin is too effing good to play pure split out and never, ever, ever will. Unless Tress comes back somehow and misuses yet another athlete.
Easy Elastik, just because Jim was conventional, doesn't mean we didn't absolutely love him every stop of the way! just be happy our best days are ahead!!
"Statistics always remind me of a fellow who drowned in a river where the average depth was only three feet." - Coach Woody Hayes
And where did I state that I disliked Tress?
Hell, I'm a Youngstown boy, Tress and Mo will always be close to my heart. That said, please name me a single <6' <200 athlete that Tress knew how to use? Every single one of them washed out, ended up transferring or had Urban save their career. Outside of employing the Walrus to ruin the O-Line Tress' biggest failure was his complete and utter incapacity in dealing with small/shifty/explosive atheltes.
I can pretty much agree. I think Brandon Saine playing for a guy like Urbs would of been a college football star. We saw flashes of it when they'd let him go out for passes out of the backfield. They just never really utilized the guy correctly.
"please name me a single <6' <200 athlete that Tress knew how to use?"...
Santonio Holmes and Anthony Gonzalez had what I consider to be very good careers at OSU under Tressel. Not trying to be contrarian, just my opinion...
Athlete and pure WR are not the same thing. Both of those two succeeded because they ran traditional routes well.
Harvin/Demps/Rainey = Marshall/Elliot/Wilson
That would be awesome if they are anything like that. I think Harvin was #1 WR, close to #1 overall. Not sure about Demps and Rainey.
Demps put off football to take his shot at the Olympics as a runner and Rainey was a third round draft pick at RB by the Steelers.
Pretty sure it was 6th, no way was he 3rd
Pretty sure 5th, I'm a steeler fan.
i'd put jacobs in there too. he's a demps/rainey type of player
After reading that the staff told Jacobs no on enrolling early I'm starting to think he is coming in to return kicks more than anything..... and well, UF Meyer recruited a few returners that were pretty damn elite.
That said, yeah he is 100% the forgotten recruit in this class.
Yeah I agree. I actually left him out of my comment below and had to edit him in after seeing his name..I completely forgot about him
I have not heard that. Why would they tell him no?
It is a numbers game because of how you count early guys against the prior years schollies. Jacobs mentioned Zach Smith telling him not to enroll early and to enjoy high school in the same interview he mentioned his potential MD visit I think (rivals).
I'm thinking the redshirt is coming for Jacobs... He needs a year to put on some weight and learn the system. Gaining weight is more important for him than anything.
Or he is trying to mimic Brandon James.... who weighed six pounds soaking wet.
So we're talking some SERIOUS speed/playmakers now...
QB-JT Barrett
RB-Ezekiel Elliot
Slot-Jalin Marshall
Slot-Dontre Wilson
WR-Corey Smith
WR-Taivon Jacobs
TE-Marcus Baugh
HEAD COACH-URBAN MEYER
+1....This got me ready to jump through a wall for football to start..... oh its going to be a long summer
Not to mention Lattimore for the '14 class!
Another thing people need to remember is that positions change. Haden went to UF as a WR. Same can be said for Roby. We need to stop trying to force kids into categories.
I think Wilson could come in and very much compete for our PR job right away. Here is a clip from the UA Game as evidence: http://youtu.be/FPUkmbQo-MM?t=4m44s
What time is the return? That's a half an hour clip

4:44
Edit: sorry, my bad, saw hackenburg interview and was confused. Never saw the 4:44
I don't mention to discredit him. I am real happy to potentialy get this kid. Since you mention that game, lets not forget he also muffed the first punt that was kicked to him too. Let's keep our expectations in check. I am still excited for the future!
Very fair/real point, but he also didn't practice that entire week due to a tweaked ankle.
End of the day, kid is fast as hell. No one that matters cares if you don't believe it.
Not sure if that was a jab, think I'm just reading into. I certainly believe he's fast and also think he played against better talent than Clark. I matter damn you!!
The athletes he is recruiting are going to wreak havoc on the B1G. Just look what he was able to do with a team that didn't necessarily have "Urban Meyer" type of players. The sheer speed of these guys on the offensive side is going to just really destroy the B1G in my opinion. Even his "bad" teams at Florida would only be 1 or 2 loss teams in the B1G. He's going to put together quite a run here in the B1G. I just hope he stick around a while and makes it a LONG run.
Agree. Michigan is going to be the only team in the conference that has players with enough quality to compete with us in the coming years.
Some more info on Wilson from the Texas board. Good things.
http://texas.247sports.com/Board/21/One-more-comment-on-Dontre-Wilson-16464388/1?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
I'll never be able to plus one, nor do I think it is anything but stupid, but something like this should have green on it
This line made me smile like a kid getting ice cream on a hot summer day!
"He just fell in love with Ohio State," the source said of Wilson.
Is his recruitment done? "Oh yeah, it's done. He's Ohio State."
It isn't the fake Insider info there that matters, it is the Tejas fans wanting to burn the staff at the stake that is phenomonal.
Any thread that contains gems like this is worth reading
It gets better:
Loved that.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Read a few of those comments - they want Urban as the coach at UT...
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
Name me a team that doesn't want Urban as their coach.
Who doesn't? Well, heck if you ask Alabama fans would they want Urban Meyer as their coach ... they couldnt say with a straight face NO.
Kind of feel like we lucked out being the only major job open that was in good shape. I know we had sanctions but Ohio State wasn't a tough place for him to walk in and Day 1 be good. If Texas with no sanctions, Auburn, and Tennessee were all open at the same time as Ohio State, would his choice to come to Columbus have been a slam dunk? I don't know.
Kind of feel that we lucked out that he is from Ohio, grew up a Buckeye fan idolizing Woody, and that Earle Bruce is like a second father to him. Heck, didn't I read somewhere that either he or his wife had to fight back singing hang on sloopy during the 06 championship game?
Pretty sure he takes dream job over all the others.
99% of the OSU fans when Meyer left Florida as they mocked his heart condition... ;)
That thread is a good example of why I've always liked Texas fans.
OSU beats Texas at something:
Texas fans' reaction "OSU is a good team, we need to fix our stuff"
OSU beats Oregon/TENN/etc at something:
Those fans' reaction "OSU are cheaters! Meyer is a cheater!"
Texas fans own their losses. There are bad eggs, like any fan base, but they don't have the little man syndrome it seems like a lot of other fanbases do. I noticed the same thing during our 1 and 1 series with them a few years ago.
Oregon is 5 years removed from being the Pac doormat. Their fans were drunk and stupid each time I have encountered them.
Winning is a learned behavior
I like Texas fans, too.
I feel very sorry - and worried - for them that they'll have to travel to Morgantown, WV this year. Talk about culture clash!
WVU fans = Buckwild/Jersey Shore drunks who love to sucker punch opposing fans when they're not looking.
Texas fans = the guy in this commercial . . .
This tweet above is why I don't listen to Farrell...he's not reliable...he relies on the same ppl we do.

?? Alex, Miles et al are hard pressed to have Greene or Givler caliber sources regularly in state. You should never discredit national info.
I have high hopes for the guys here; but they are still guys.
Recruiting is VERY fluid, how can you say someone is not reliable when they change their pick? As great as the 11w staff is with their info, its pretty foolish to think Farrell's sources "are the same". Farrell ha been doing this longer than many on this site have been alive. Give the guy some credit.
I'm just changed my pick, too: James Quick will send his LOI to Louisville tomorrow.

But some people on this site actually think GenStarCopyPaste knows something about what is happening....
Recruiting in this modern/fast info age is more a whose leading the lemmings over the bridge game than anything.
You're such a douchebag.
That really looks like personal attack to me. Epic fail by the voting system including the person you responded to, who only stated their opinion yet got down voted to eternity. Disappointing.
Maybe you missed a not so long ago, late night filling of a Quick Bits thread, that got out of hand and has since deleted. Mr. Elastik had issue with Genestarwind, then vise/versa. Elastik won't let it go, harping on Genestarwind in the above post. He gets what he deserves, in this case.
I did not see it. Regardless of what happened then, we're not supposed to vote with past grudges in mind anyway. Personally, I appreciate what gene brings to the site, but I don't feel like everyone has to.
Fwiw - I did not personally downvote the comment - I just don't downvote much of anything. You're right that we don't all have to agree, but we also don't really want to dump on people for making valid contributions to the site either...From what I've seen, GeneStar works very hard to provide easy access to news about OSU from various sources, and I think he does so without any malice whatsoever. Quick Bits is his way to contribute to 11W....He's not stealing, he simply gives us access to outside stories by linking small portions of them here. Insulting the guy adds nothing and is not necessary - which I imagine is why people got upset.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.

Gene tries to link portions of any daily Buckeye news into one easy spot in the forums for us to read. I've never heard him once claim to be a recruiting expert. People may ask his opinion because he obviously keeps better tabs on it than most, but I don't think he would tell you he's an insider. It's actually a nice thing he's doing for the site as an unpaid contributor. Low blow...
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
He copies summaries made by people on another forum and pastes them here. Call it whatever you want, but he steals summaries of pay content and doesn't even have the decency to change a single word of it.
Then lemmings here call him an Insider. It is hilarious.
I once was in charge of a blog at a company I worked at, & I do realize when you lnk, you're encouraged to give credit to those who wrote it & make your own summary of the story to go with the link, but I just don't think he's doing it with malice & does provide the links...could it be done differently - probably. Is it a guy who's passionate about wanting to provide other members with info because he's a nice guy - definitely.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
If you don't like what Gene does for everyone here then don't look or go away. There are more than a few on 11W, including me, that enjoy reading Quick Bits everyday. Pretty simple Elastdick....
I'm gonna start the countdown for you E last tick, 10...9...8...7...

Just saw a tweet from Marc Givler that the reason Wilson is announcing when he is, 10 pm eastern, 9 pm central, is because he's doing it on local news and that's when it airs.
That makes sense. Thanks for that.
EDIT: So how do we watch it? Anyone know?
He will be announcing on Dallas Fox 4. It probably won't be at 9pm sharp as other news is transpiring in DFW, but I will post his decision as soon as I see it. I will be huddled around my TV - it will probably be the first time I watch the news at 9.
Edit: the news runs from 9pm-10pm on Fox 4. I told you I didn't watch the news at 9! So, please change my 9:20-9:25 to 9:50-9:55.

Come on Dontre!!!!!
Can you imagine a 2014 offensive set that has Braxton, Elliott, Wilson, Marshall and the Smiths on the field together?
Thats almost unfair!!!!!
I assume you mean Rod Smith (i know you didnt) and you also forgot Dunn. I dont think Elliott will be able to come in and play as much as people think with the stable of backs on the roster especially if he cannot be depended on in pass pro. However, the receivers shouldnt have a problem competing right away if they can block, learn the play book and run good routes.
That'd be scary to defend
Grey, you are killing the twitterverse. Nice embeds, and thanks.
Thanks POPEURBAN! I'm just trying to get the info out to people that enjoy it as much as I do and I find it's usually best to do it "straight from the horses mouth" if you will and just emedd the tweets I read.

As we wait for his anouncement, his twitter bio as officially deleted "Oregon Commit" from his account. While that doesn't serve a huge purpose, it's still another sign that it shall have a new school there by tonight or Wednesday after he signs.
I apoligize if this has been noted, but "Oregon Commit" has been removed from Dontre's twitter account profile.
+1 for Kicks and 216. You guys got this posted before I could... I checked earlier today and it still said, "Oregon commit", but it's down now. Another great sign for the good guys!
Think about this...Ohio State went into Texas and took the best LB, arguably the best QB and one of the top 3 RB/WR.....straight jack move Ice Cube style
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
Longhorns are in trouble. Mack and his staff are misevaluating kids and Urban goes straight for the Jugular. I have NEVER, in my life, witnessed a recruiting job such as what Urban has done past 2 years. This dude does not give a F*#& and is relentless.
I am a lifelong Buckeye and two-time alumn. I think my name explains my newfound feelings for urban, and I am thrilled with this class. That being said, what Nick Saben has done with Alabama and their consistent classes is what we are trying to do. Maybe what you and many others are trying to say is that we have never seen anything like this at TOSU?
exactly what i meant, thanks!
Thanks for the clarification. This new recruiting style IS awesome. Looking forward to the next few years.
It's unbelievable how aggressive OSU is in the recruiting now (which is awesome!). Raiding Texas, moving the border north, planting the flag in Georgia, etc, etc... Great mentality by this staff!!
Yep I love it as well! Great to see for Buckeye Nation!
I never kept up with recruiting now its giving me heart burn and OCD because I keep coming back to the site for more news every ten minutes!!! Thursday can't come soon enough
Wherever you are, there you be!
I don't really understand meyer Spread Offense but does he typically have a RB and HB in at the same time? If so could we be looking at Hyde and Hall filling those positions and then Dunn and either Ellioit or Wilson getting some snaps. With all the talent at that position its gonna be hard get the underclassmen a lot of snaps. I don't think I included Rod Smith either.
