Has anyone else noticed that every decent Ohio prospect has a Tennessee offer? Shaun Crawford, St. Ed 2015 CB just received his offer the other day and all of 2014 has one already. It lends Ohio high school football credibility when an SEC team is scouring the state for talent, but science help me is they end up poaching any top-tier talent from us. After Vonn Bell, and now Jalen Hurd committing to OSU, I expect an even bigger Tennessee presence up here to spite us.

um...the coach for Tennessee (Butch Jones) coached at Cincinnati. He is familiar with Ohio High Schools and their players...i'll let you do the math here.
I don't think we have to worry about him. He couldn't recruit when he was in-state, he wont fare any better in the land of Mountain Dew and banjos.

um... he took over in December. All of these offers had already been extended. I was looking for someone with insight more along the lines of "they have positions coaches and coordinators with Ohio high school coaching roots" and/or "geographically speaking, their recruiting pitch is that they offer SEC football much closer to home for Ohio recruits." More advanced math, not basic.
Colleges don't recruit others areas out of "spite", they recruit because there is talent. Take it as a compliment.
+1 I agree, but I meant more in terms of recruiting future OSU targets before we discovered or offered, not just peppering random recruits in the state with scholarships.
Just be glad you don't live in Florida then.
They OFFER all our top players and we SIGN their best is a good strategy

We do the same thing in other states, all fair in love and football!!
SCOTTC.
And as Urban said on signing day in regard to not taking as many Ohio kids as he would like, and I am paraphrasing "we just didn't know the kids." Pretty much the inverse situation, at UC Butch had to kill Ohio and get as many quality kids out of the state he could after some of the bigger programs got the guys they wanted. So as of now the all of the Ohio kids he is offering are likely the ones he knows the most about.
Yeah to the points of Butch Jones, that is exactly why......
Also, fwiw, I guarantee every Urban Meyer OSU class will have around 10 (give or take 1-2) Ohio kids
Speaking of Cincinnati and from a quick glance at 247, the recruiting progress does not look so great for the Tubes.
Jalen Hurd committed?!

im wondering the same thing...i definitely did not hear about that
Dont think we would've missed that gray box.

I think I missed something here as well??
Sorry, that was just speculative optimism.
I was optimistic about Diggs Neal Green Pocic and Johnson too lol
I was only optimistic about Neal. With Diggs, I just wanted him badly.
I barely knew who Green was until late November. By then Ohio State wasn't recruiting him anymore.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Ah, Ok - didn't think I could have missed that one, but wasn't sure...

It makes sense for both Tennessee and Kentucky to recruit Ohio as, unlike other SEC schools, the in-state talent is not particularly deep. Also, both states are relatively accessible from Ohio compared to places like LSU or Ole Miss.
I don't know why that would surprise anyone. Ohio usually has the 4th or 5th most talented HS football players in the nation behind Florida, Texas, California and flip flopping with Georgia. If I'm Tennessee then I am offering all of the GA and OH kids I can. I wouldnt call it spite, I would call it smart.
I dont think coming from Cincy has anything to do with it but it couldn't hurt. The OSU doesn't do a lot of damage in SW Ohio and I think ND and a certain 5 star safety whose initials are "Eugene Clifford" have something to do with that. I do think that Colerain puts out some talent but they've been in bed with UC since Kelly's days. I think that LB Bolden at scUM has a chance to play on Sundays. I wouldn't be worried about Urban missing on any Ohio kids he really wants.
