I think we just need one forum for all these commits flowing in today. 2014 is taking shape and it looks dirty! Lets go Trout, Marshall, and Campbell

Now just give me Booker, Kitt, and Jones... Maybe throw in Kelly Jr. just for good measure. Haha. Gotta love being a Buckeye right now!
Oh that would be beautiful. It is intoxicating to just follow Ohio State recruitment these days. I can not wait to see Urban and Co. to develop these guys and just do work.
Dont forget McMillian

I posted this in another thread, but if we're combining them I think it fits here too:
Lawrence Marshall: 2014 Weakside defensive end. Southfield, Michigan

Very excited about Trout and Marshall in particular! Trout commits at a DEFINITE need position. Marshall's tape kind of reminds me of Adolphus Washington in HS before he added all the weight + muscle -- which I'd expect Marshall to do once he gets on campus next year with Mariotti. Maybe not quite as much as Diesel, but they'll definitely pack on some. A lot of raw skill there though!
Anyone else thinking a couple of these guys cold end up in a Johnny Townsend situation? We know the class is going to be small, it will be interesting to watch when the national blue-chips start rolling in.

The Johnny Townsend situation in which his favorite hometown school offered him a scholarship at the last minute and he flipped?
I'm sure there's a change some of these players could flip, but most of them already have offers from hometown schools. Townsend wasn't left in the cold. He had the LOI in his hand for Ohio State, he just didn't sign it.
Ohh maybe I'm mistaken then... I was under the impression when Urbz went 3 for 3 on NSD (which no one really expected to happen), it left no room for Townshend in the class. I guess the point of my original post was this: What happens next year when we're sitting with a full class class of verbals and McMillan, Garrett, Hand, or any other ELITE guys want to commit? Turn them down b/c we're full? Take them and worry about getting numbers down later?

There weren't 3 commits on NSD, there were 2 (unless you count EZE, but I think the staff was confident in him). Wilson committed on Monday. According to Dave Biddle the staff found out about Townsend wavering on Tuesday night. Townsend, his dad, Orlando Sentinel, Dave Biddle, Luke Zimmerman, Chung (whatever that is worth) all report that OSU did not change or pull the offer. His brother is there now, his parents went there, and it's his hometown dream school. Only Alex has said anything to the contrary (that I'm aware of), and he has never provided anything concrete, in my opinion, to demonstrate all the others, including Townsend himself, are wrong. That Townsend had his offer pulled by OSU is nothing but an unsubstantiated "educated guess" that is "certainly not fact." It's a rumor at best and conspiracy theory at worst. Sorry to ramble on, but this is one of the reasons I was so against all the discussion that followed Alex's thought, which he fairly qualified as a guess and not fact. I also wish he hadn't persisted after someone shared Chung's interview with Townsend, but I do still respect his educated and experienced opinions and analysis.
I have confidence in the staff's ability to judge talent and manage the roster and offers in such a way that I am not at all worried about them pulling an offer when something bigger comes along. If these commits had committable offers, then the staff wants them in the class, no doubt. With that said, things can change at this stage in the game. Like Urban said, a verbal commit means the school is in the recruit's final top three.
He never said Dontre Wilson committed wednesday, he said he went 3 for 3, which in big announcements he did(-Taivon Jacobs, which is fine by me, I also considered the big 3 of wednesday to be Bell, Clark, and Elliott). Everything else you said was spot on, but no need be condescending to a fellow buckeye just because he doesn't follow it as close as you!
Not trying to be condescending or direct that at any one person here. It was completely based on all the discussion on here since Alex's original signing day post in the forums on NSD night. And the exact reason is this is how bad rumors get started. I was only trying to set the record straight and inform. I'm not looking down on anybody, and I have no idea how much of that news anybody read up on. I didn't even downvote that poster, because I truly believe he wasn't doing anything intentionally. I honestly don't know what you see in my post that is condescending (but, OFFICERABBIT, hope you didn't take it that way).
I said 2 recruits "unless you count EZE" so I don't see why you have a problem with how I said that. Additionally, the recruiting experts on this site were predicting EZE to OSU because the staff was confident in getting him. I don't really think his commitment was much of a surprise, at least not to those in the know.
No issue taken at all, I was actually just reading all the posts in the "Townshend sets it Straight" forum... looks like their is still a lot of disagreement over how that flip went down. Either way, I appreciate the info you offered. I don't comment on here often, as most commenters seem to offer far more than I can, so I keep quiet for the most part. Looking at all the down votes on my OP, it appears I should remain quiet!

If they've already committed,Urban will not pull their scholarships!! They will be Buckeyes, and some of the BLUE CHIPPERS,may lose out.
SCOTTC.
These 3 kids are all going to be 4 stars. So these are some of our blue chippers as far as I'm concerned.
If we are going to have any shot at Watson and all the other GA prospects, I think we need to come out of this weekend with at least one GA commit. But it is a great weekend for recruitment no matter what.
Why do you feel like that? It is just Feb' of 2013! There is plenty of time to reel in the GA prospects. Why is this weekend the make it or break weekend concerning them? I don't think we will get all of the Georgia prospects but we will get our share led by The Chef Raekwon. He will be our best recruiter in securing prospects for TOSU.
Valid question, Stark. Based on their Twitter feeds and recruiting expert reports on various sites, OSU was *the* most talked about school among the elite GA prospects 2-3 months ago. Momentum has shifted in favor of Clemson and Georgia (and to a lesser extent Tenn), with regard to many of the prospects.
Getting a GA commitment this weekend would put momentum back on our side and perhaps prompt Glass, Autry, et al. to take another long, hard look at OSU.
The good news is we have Urban Meyer.
The good news is we have everything we need to win a NC in 2013.
We should be sitting pretty with a majority of the Georgia Boyz this time next year.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
who still scores stars? How many heisman winners were 5*....Not this years.not t smith or eddie george.Let the pros(coaches) decifer who gets spots.I'm happy these guys chose us! and to have 5 this early is pretty damn cool for me.
some "blue chippers" carry too much baggage with them and thier egos(i.e. Pryor). I trust this whole staff to make these accessments(too much knowledge not to).
knucklehead
On the field TP easily lived up to each of his 5 stars. I don't want to relitigate the whole star thing, but I'll take 5 star guys till the cows come home.
Hey Brady, let's count how many commits Urban has taken from the state of ichigan already for 2014.
we get Good Gray Box....... they get
Didn't they take a lot from Ohio last year?
They take a lot from Ohio every year. The difference is that Ohio has many, many more good recruits to take.
Michigan never has more than a few top level recruits, and historically they've been able to just assume they'd get them. Urban has gone after their base, which hurts.
top that off with next years Ohio seniors not being very deep compared to most years, and it puts Michigan in a tough spot.
Urbs is pulling the carpet out from under them by making them work in places they've been able to take for granted.
Best. GIF. Ever!
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
Urban is literally hand picking 2014 kids I want you!!!!
It says these are #3-5 for 2014. Who is # 2?
Damon Webb. the CB from up north.
Webb, the Cass Tech CB, I believe.
Thanks to both of you.
How many will we have room for in the 2014 class? Attrition and early departures aside. I'm sure with a little digging I could find the answer, but I'm betting one of you know already. Thanks in advance.
18-20 in 2014,unless we have more attrition/departures seems to be the consensus.
SCOTTC.
how many did shitigan get today
knucklehead
What do you guys think our chances are for Drake Harris, the MSU WR commit?
50/50 but the more recruits verbal, the more recruits will get excited about what OSU is building, and pull the trigger early, would be my guess. They won't want to lose out on something special. Some, who enjoy the drama and want to drag recruitment out, will miss the bus, this year!!
SCOTTC.
The momentum for Drake is getting louder but of course his visit will tell us more. I do know that ALOT of MSU ppl say its a forgone conclusion that hes gone but not for scUM. Read from them saying he does not like scUM and they arent really in it for his services but not sure how accurate that is.
And the Urban Express keeps on rolling!
Could he be next :)
I like the look of that.
OOoooh boy I would poop. Hope so Mr. Booker.
hahahaha, i loled at this one. hahaha
only ones left in that state up north is Malik McDowell and Drake Harris. Lets get'em
OTRAIN2416: Kick ass!!!!
If we get Booker today also, this would be one of the single best recruiting days I can remember IMHO. Keep it rolling!! Go Buckeyes!!!! Now let's hope we can pull at least one of the GA connection.
This isn't even the best day in the last week!
I should have been more specific lol. Best day that's not Letter of Intent Day.
still lots of visits this month and spring game around the corner.things are rollin alot quicker than i antisipated.
books would be cool to get LB movin which i hope hauls in the 3 i'm lookin for.
maybe we float up into the top 5 for hand too.
knucklehead
Could someone break down the 3 commits from today? I can't find much on google which would lead me to beleive these guys are good, really good, great or other.
If you are in the know and can grade them as a high school prospect on the following scale (as they left high school) it would help set me straight.
1) TP (#1 in the nation)
2) Braxton (Just a "regular" 5 star)
3) EzE (4 Star)
4) Tracy Sprinkle (3 Star)
5) Chimdi Chekwa / Brian Robiskie (2 star but still somehow made it to OSU and the NFL)
They are good enough for Urban to offer them this early in the process and accept their commitments.
Very helpful. We also recruited taivon Jacobs and quick, so your post does little to narrow down if they were at the low end or the high end.
I would say that they are all 3 prolly 4-star talents
From everything I have gathered, Trout is borderline 5*, Parris Campbell is probably a Eze level 4* and Lawrence Marshall might be a 3-4 star guy around Sprinkle.
I think Sprinkle is a borderline 4* and that is what level I would have said he is at. For being considered the best player in Ohio for 2012 (co POY) and his skill set, I am stunned he isn't an across the board 4*. Goes to show you that sometimes the star rankings go too much on potential and not what a player is currently able to do. Sprinkle will be a great buckeye, no doubt!
Great analysis. I agree trout and Campbell will start at 4* and Marshall 3-4.
Sprinkle did it vs. very good competition where Marshall I would guess doesnt play against the same level of comp by watching his video.
yeah Lawrence seemed to bust through those lines pretty easily. Nothing against him though because I still think if you have IT, then the competition doesn't really matter. There must be something that Urban sees in the kid that is for sure.
Something we don't think about much around this time in a class, Marshall could be friends with a recruit that the staff actually wants more or could be related to a future stud. Kind of like Ole Miss lucking out with the Nkemdiches. Of course with Jaylon and Rod, we see it doesn't always work.
I actually do think the staff really likes Lawrence but speculation does happen.
So let me guess, some of you are already expecting a Townsend situation, Anzalone situation and concern for oversigning for this class even though it just is getting started?
As I said over on another post, there were 5 verbals by the end of February last year and look what happened, Urban pulled in 2 final recruits to finish the class on the last day. Despite your concern for signing recruits too fast or not enough room, I doubt half of this class will be filled by July let alone run out of space too soon!
The better question should be asked, are these first 5 on par or better than the first 5 from this past year?
Eli Apple, Cam Burrows, Evan Lisle, Billy Price and Jalin Marshall
or
Marcelys Jones, Damon Webb, Kyle Trout, Lawrence Marshall and Parris Campbell.
IMO, last years is better to this point but 2014 could surpass them though.
To be fair, Burrows, Marshall and Apple are 3 of our top 6 or so recruits for 2013.
Out of the 5 committed so far, Webb might be the only guy in that category for 2014 if we get most of the guys we think we will (and that's not knocking the other guys at all, just showing how good this class can potentially be).
Very true. Plus without the upcoming camps and scouting that will happen on this class, who knows where these guys actually stand right now. Urban could be onto a few high risers, we don't know!
but even back then we knew Apple and Marshall are going to be awesome. I do think Webb and Trout are at that level but the comparison is a bit unfair.
I will say if Barker, Lattimore, Autry, McMillan and Garrett come on board, then we do have something to talk about on which class is better. Hand could end the conversation!
i already miss the 2013 class;(
The first five of '14 truely are comparable to the first 5 of the '13 class.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
I respectfully disagree...a lot. Cam, Apple, Jalin, Marshall, Lisle, and Price (I believe that's them) are > than the 5 so far. That's much more a compliment to the 2013 guys than an insult to the 2014 guys.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
I disagree by quite a bit. Webb is comparable. perhaps trout is somewhat comparable.
To be fair, we have to let the '14 guys complete their senior seasons to see how they truely pan out. Jones and Trout are top tier linemen; Webb, Campbell, and Marshall are up there too.
