Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets, 2/4 - Dontre Wilson to announce early, James Clark silent commits
While the world watched Super Bowl XLVII last night, the Ohio State coaching staff was most likely hard at work trying to secure some of the best talent remaining in the class of 2013. National Signing Day is Wednesday, but '13 WR James Clark may have already made his decision as to where he wants to attend school.
Clark mentioned he wanted to try and give a silent commitment to either Florida, Northwestern, Clemson, Nebraska or Ohio State on Sunday. Clark took an unofficial visit to Florida on Saturday, but also recently spoke with the Ohio State coaching staff. The 5'11", 170-pound speedster, who caught 49 passes for 1,112 yards and eight touchdowns last season, says his family may know who Clark will choose, based off of what he's told them in the past. As far as Ohio State goes, Clark added "It was great," he said. "It was a great campus and a pretty good weekend."

Conner quarterback Drew Barker draws attention from big-time recruiters
It was before school started last Thursday at Conner High School that junior quarterback Drew Barker had just completed showing recruiters from Vanderbilt and Michigan State his throwing arm when he headed to the weight room and looked up from his workout in time to make eye contact with another visitor.
It was Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, who became the latest in a growing number of college coaches interested in the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Barker.
Meyer’s visit was the final one in a whirlwind week that saw several other recruiters, including newly hired University of Kentucky coach Mark Stoops, make a stop at the Hebron school to show interest in Barker before a dead period on contact started last Friday.

New Smyrna Beach WR James Clark down to 3: Clemson, Florida, Ohio State | Video
And now James Clark can relax. He knows what school he will be picking on National Signing Day and the winner in the sweepstakes for his services will come from his final three of Clemson, Florida and Ohio State.
Clark, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound slot receiver from New Smyrna Beach, has narrowed his list to a final three and will announce his final decision on Wednesday at 9 a.m., at New Smyrna Beach High School.
He took his final visit of the recruiting cycle this past weekend with an unofficial trip to Gainesville where the Gators had one last shot to sway Clark in their favor.

Football: Wilson could choose Buckeyes today
Anticipation was high in Ohio State circles that the Buckeyes could land a commitment from blue-chip slotback Dontre Wilson of DeSoto, Texas, perhaps as soon as today. National letter-of-intent signing day is Wednesday.

It's a depressing thought, but we could slow play Barker and end up missing on him and Watson both. Wouldn't be good...
same sort of thing happened with McCray and Kimbrough this year. I'm not worried. This is the risk you take when you go after the #1 type players like Watson is. I'd rather go to signing day and end up Watson's #2 than settle early.
I think if he actually visits next weekend the staff will have an idea of whether they can flip him...
finishing with bell n wilson will be awesome

I know Barker is the #1 QB, but isn't he a pocket passer? Am I missing something why OSU is pursuing him and not other scramblers (minus Watson)?
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Barker runs the spread offense at his high school. That's one of the reasons he was high on OSU. Apparently they are going all in on the hopes that they can flip Watson. They'll end up either getting Watson or not getting an elite QB at all. Last I read Barker wanted to make a decision by April I believe.
I think once Watson visits OSU this weekend the staff will have a better handle on the chances of him flipping or not.
I agree... The staff will know more after Watson visits. I believe the GA boys will be working on Watson too. I know McMillan and Autry have to be pushing him hard since they're both wanting to be Buckeyes. I'd like to have Kitt too. If Watson wants to flip, I welcome him to the Buckeye Nation. If he doesn't I'd like to have Barker.
Would love to see 4 gray boxes this weekend... McMillan, Autry, Kitt, and a Watson flip. Work your magic Urbs
Autry is no longer visiting Columbus this weekend... He is going to Tennessee's Junior Day.
Read on 247 that Watson visited Clemson last weekend and confirmed his commitment to their coaches. They pushed hard to get him to not visit OSU (sound like Oregon coaches? haha) and he hasn't made up his mind yet if he's actually visiting or not.
I think he loves Meyer and our program but will he love the university? He has to fall in love with it this weekend for us to have a chance.
He's a great player and IMO a top 10 player regardless of position next year, but if he doesn't decommit or put us even with Clemson after the visit (if he does visit) then it's going to be very hard for us to overcome Clemson IMO.
He's coming next weekend...Clemson's worried. However...wouldn't you be???

Barker reminds me of Collin Klein with a slightly less effective run game -- Barker can run quite well, just not as frequently/effectively as Klein imo. He's tall, long-strides, better passer than he is runner, but capable of operating in the spread.
Watson to me is more reminiscent of a Tajh Boyd, though I think he projects even better than Boyd. Watson is a pure 50/50 guy--can run just as effectively as he can pass, complete dual-threat QB.
It seems that because we have JT Barrett already, Urb doesn't mind putting off the offer to Barker until at least the Watson visit this upcoming weekend, if Barker ever gets one (I think he will) .
Should not sleep on Ulmer QB from MD either hell be a consensus 4* when its all said and done.
I have concerns with his arm and mechanics at the moment, and I think there might be similar reservations on the part of the scouts. He's a tremendous athlete, but he may end up near the high 3 star, low 4 star line unless he really shows out his senior season.
Looks like the B1G just got a little bit stronger:
The words "Wisconsin" and "dual threat QB" don't really seem to go together.
I was thinking the same thing, although the hiring of Canada last year seemed to point that Bielema was joining the modern world of more creative offenses. It is a shame that Canada took off to NC State, he did alot of good things for the Big 10, in Indiana of all places. I am excited to see what the conference looks like in 10 years.
Russell Wilson did ok...not to mention...he's doing ok in the NFL too.
However...this kid is 6'6 200...I'm not sure how fast he actually is but WOW is he tall. Had offers from FL, Oregon, WVU...and chose Wiscy...hmmm interesting.

Whoops. A second too late. Great minds think alike.
Brady Hoke's reaction to the Urban Meyer hire: "Not good."
And I recall Sorgi running converting a few 3rd downs with his feet also
I remember a recent OSU QB who was close to 6'6' and well over 200 being quite fast.
Freakishly fast with a NASTY stiffarm. Not often you see a QB stiffarm a DE onto his behind.
Russell Wilson is also 0-1 against Ohio State, and those are the kinds of QBs I like @ Wisconsin. :) Do well against everybody else, and lose to Ohio State. Totally works for me.
Russel Wilson?
Brady Hoke's reaction to the Urban Meyer hire: "Not good."
My point is that Wisky has not generally gone after mobile QB's.
Russel Wilson played at Wisky one year and was unlike any other QB they've had there in recent memory. He's an exception not the norm for them. Sure the guy is mobile, but he only had about 300 yards rushing as a Badger. He is a pass first QB but can run the pistol and read-option.
Don't disagree with you at all. Hopefully (for the conference's competitiveness' sake) they realized that having a quarterback who is slightly more mobile than their "usual" guy who runs like his feet are stuck in cement could add another element to their offense moving forward.
Brady Hoke's reaction to the Urban Meyer hire: "Not good."
Wilson's been about it for Wiscy...Sorgi could do it now and again...but not consistently. As far as this new guy....I can't see him being like TP....which was why I didn't mention him (not to mention I never talk about him anymore...loved what he did at the Shoe and other's field at times...but what he did off the field goes without saying how I feel. I've made it abundantly clear and IDC what others want to remember...I remember a great coach being taken away way too early bc of bad choices...both by player(s) and coaches and I'd even throw in the compliance dept and AD to boot).

Something about South Carolina and its Qbs with the law and trouble just seem to go hand in hand http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8218554/south-carolina-gamecocks-backup-qb-arrested-suspended
Aaaaaaand Wisky becomes BIG's 3rd school to use the Pistol as a primary offensive formation
I know it's still a year away but I'm getting a little more concerned about McMillan becoming a Buckeye. He recently visited Clemson again and loves the coaches and their recruiting coordinator. Other top 2014 guys are high on Clemson oo including Andrew Brown, Jeb Blazevich and Demarre Kitt. Those guys along with Watson already committed could help their chances with McMillan
McMillan has continually said that OSU is on top... I think Urban will stay on top of him all the way until NSD 2014. Plus, McMillan will have another year of watching OSU dominate and continue to improve the program.
Don't forget we are in on Garrett, Booker, and Berger too. I know McMillan is the top guy in the 2014 LB corp, but those 3 guys are pretty darn good too.
This^^^as for below....De-Hand will be trending to the Buckeyes by the end of 2013. Bank it boys...we'll be in the top 3 by then.

VaTech specifically Bud Foster are on top of this one.
Artavis is fast but the best part about him is he looks like a rubberband at times. Bending this way and that and still going full speed ahead (not to mention...he likes to get his nose in there and hit ppl). I see why he's getting more and more offers. That pitch/hand off is fumbled at 4:47 and look at what he did with it...making something out of nothing. Gotta love that...

Huh. Article on Barker said that his mom graduated from OSU. Yet another reason to like him should Watson stick with Clemson.
I think in the long run Watson is going to look at OSU's depth chart and stick with Clemson. He's going to have Braxton for 1 year and then either Jones and Barrett for 2-3 years. He will be able to start as a freshman at Clemson right after Boyd leaves.
That may be true, but isn't Asaanti Woulard linked to Clemson. I could be wrong. Woulard was the Elite 11 winner and looks like a great prospect. Woulard would redshirt next year with Boyd still there and have 4 years to start when Watson gets on Clemson's campus.
Woulard has been pegged by almost everyone to be UCLA bound Jim Mora has silently put together a class that will certainly challenge USC in the near future.
Watched barker a couple times last year. He has a very strong arm.
Also forgot to add on here but alot of insiders are saying the possibility of landing Clark and Bell to go with Wilson tonight is looking real good. Dont get hopes up yet but with Urban Im inclined to believe most of them. Still dont want to get my hopes to high Clark yet but with Bell his mom loves Urban but especially Withers all credit goes to him on that if these rumblings come true.
What insiders? rivals? scout? 247? espn? 11W?
All the above not saying its gonna happen but be sure to watch Timmons announcement tomorrow at 1. Lot of smoke ala Dontre that Timmons will choose Florida if that happens then expect Clark to be tOSU bound (or tUOSU bound now it seems with OOS kids lol). As for Bell its starting to becoming closer to a consensus for the good guys and that it is between UT and us. Withers should get all the kudos for that if it indeed does happen.
Insiders?? Like Alex, Miles, Chad and Derek on the front page write up? :)
~Because we couldn't go for three~
What's up with Hand not digging tOSU?
Zach Smith is his recruiter...WORD is he is not the best. He did although snag C.Smith...
Urban needs to completely take that recruitment over himself. Imagine Bosa and Hand on opposite sides of each other.
That's a good question seems like the route too take with him is too just have fun and not talk football or barley talk football from the interview he did with the bleacher report it seems he likes to have fun and get to know instead talking football. It sounds like a job for Tom Herman especially since Clarke called him the funniest OC in the country and we got to see some of that on espn all access.
Edited
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
He might be looking at depth across the D-line too. Spence, Washington and Schutt are going to be starters along with Bosa coming in. Look at scUM's depth. Taco anyone?
Could we see a gray box for Wilson committing and a gray box for Zeke decommitting?
That was rain on my parade. Admittedly, I wonder about that too but I was hoping to not think about it until tomorrow.
Wilson flipped.. so excited!!
