JC Shurburtt- Clifton Garrett could be a five-star prospect on 247Sports. Word is he's all Buckeye at this stage.
I feel like he will take a lot of visits and make a thorough decision, but my guess is that Michigan and Virginia Tech are in the best shape for Da'Shawn Hand currently.
I was impressed with Dominique Booth's ability to run routes, his quick feet and his hands on Sunday at the Core6 Cincinnati Showcase. Most feel it's a two-horse race with Tennessee holding a slight edge on Missouri. His visit to Columbia this weekend will be huge for the Tigers.
Look for California RB Joe Mixon to rise in the rankings soon. To the credit of Gerry Hamilton and our rankings team, he was a Top247 member before he had any offers.
Drake Harris will move up significantly in the rankings soon now that he's going to concentrate on football. Huge speculation that he doesn't end up at Michigan State. Watch Ohio State here, too.
Virginia has the clear inside track for five-star Quin Blanding, who announces in a week. The Florida State talk was strong with him, but honestly word on the street it that North Carolina really is the other team. Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets 2/21 - Quin Blanding to announce, two new offers (lghl)

The Buckeyes have targeted two more recruits in the class of 2014 as they also prepare for Quin Blanding's announcement.
The biggest news in recruiting from yesterday came from the state of Virginia, where '14 S Quin Blanding told the media he would be announcing his decision next Wednesday, the 27th, at 2:30 in the afternoon. Blanding is reportedly supposed to be picking between either Virginia, Florida State or Ohio State. This really marks the first big announcement of the 2014 class as far as national implications go. Blanding measures in at 6'2" and weighs around 200 pounds. Rated as the best safety in the country for his class, Blanding also is ranked as the fifth-best prospect in the country and second in the state of Virginia.
This past season, Blanding had an eye-popping 111 tackles and five interceptions. Quin isn't just a sure-tackler, however, as he brings speed to the table with his 4.50 40-yard dash time. Clemson, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame and West Virginia are also being considered, but they aren't expected to make too much of a difference.

Caleb Henderson, Lake Braddock quarterback, receives more offers (washington post)
Lake Braddock junior quarterback Caleb Henderson continues to weigh his scholarship offers, a list that is likely to grow soon based on discussions that various coaches have had with Henderson and his father, Eric, in recent weeks.
Eric Henderson, who handles the bulk of the recruiting to save his son the distraction, divides the conversations and correspondence into roughly three categories — firm offers, schools that are actively recruiting Henderson but have not yet extended offers and another group that is more loosely involved in pursuing him.
The firm offers are from Michigan State, Illinois, Marshall, Virginia, Maryland and Old Dominion.
Among the other schools showing interest are Ohio State, whose campus Henderson plans to visit in March. The Hendersons also plan to see Miami and Tennessee soon and North Carolina again. They planned to meet with Virginia Coach Mike London again this week.

"Glenville Big 3 to visit Bama."
That was fast.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
I'd be surprised if any of them end up there. Marcelys is on record saying he is only taking visits because he wants to enjoy the process of schools rolling out the red carpet for him. Lattimore is all buckeye whenever he chooses to commit. Only one that might go elsewhere is Smith, and that's only because we have the opportunity to land Blanding, Kelly, or Nicholson, who are all probably higher on the board than Smith
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Time for Nick Saban to roll out the Alabama whores again:

I'm guessing you never saw her face. Buzz your girlfriend.... woof.
I didn't think her face was all that bad.

Didnt want to start a new thread but this seems relevant to this post.
Bleacher Report posted this today... I know they do a bit of trolling but it is Jones' words.
Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
At some point, recruits have to recognize that Bama's run is almost over. Either Bama's arrogance will catch up to them or NCAA penalties or just the fact that everyone else is getting stronger and getting sick of Little Nicky's smug mug. Their days atop the heap are numbered. The minute Saban is gone they'll be back to Mike DuBose/Mike Shula mediocrity anyway. Then it will be, All Your Recruits Are Belong To Us.

I don't know if I'd say Bama's run is close to over, as they're still dominant and they just picked up the #1 recruiting class for what's like 3 out of the last 4 or 5 years.
What I will say, though, is that you'd have to think at some point the appeal will die down slightly for recruits. Aside from frequent player arrests, or stories about spraying HGH deer antler in their mouths pre-BCS title game, Bama is loaded at nearly every position--Bama in general will likely start to lose some of the appeal as quality schools with less depth become viable alternatives (some of the reason why we got Vonn Bell imo). I feel the same way about OSU vs. Michigan OL recruiting -- I would be surprised if Michigan continues to out recruit OSU on the OL due to the fact that Michigan's OL is currently stacked (something like 9 4*+ OL recruits in the last two classes), future OL recruits that are choosing between B1G schools will (hopefully) see more of an opportunity to play on OSU's OL than on Michigan's.
They probably think that after Saban retires, they can hire Urban.
Thanks Gene! Love watching the combine workouts!
Combine workouts were sweet!! Interesting news on the Glenville 3.Think Lattimore and Smith will be scarlett and grey but Jones worries me with taking all these visits.
SCOTTC.
Interesting to read JC Shurburtt's comments on certain recruits. Pretty much saying OSU has no chance with Blanding and that UNC is actually the #3 team. So how the hell did the rumors start about OSU being in the lead for Blanding?
Good to hear that OSU continues to lead for Garrett.
Kind of surprised that Shurburtt thinks Michigan is in good shape with Hand at this point.
Good shape with Hand as in distant second to VaTech imo.
sfgoods
I was kinda surprised by that, too. Didnt think TTUN was even in the realistic mix. Now all of a sudden they're No. 1/No. 2?
"Sherman ran an option play right through the south" - Greatest.Civil.War.Analogy.Ever
Take it FWIW, it didn't come from Hand, it came from a 247 analyst who believes those are his top 2. From interviews I've seen, I would say its VT, Bama, then UM, but that's just my opinion.
Regardless of who is 2, I think it's clear VT is in the drivers seat atm
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Michigan's DE stock is terrible. Hand would start from day one under a stud defensive coordinator with NFL chops as a true frosh. If Tech can't land him, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he chose Michigan.
When Da'Shawn Hand named his top 5, he said the following about Michigan.
This is from an interview of Hand by Adam Friedman of Rivals about two and a half weeks ago. If you have access and can get behind the paywall, you can visit the link below.
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1468245
Even with the above being said, and even though Michigan's coaches have put themselves in a good position with Hand, recruiting is a Marathon, so there is still a lot of work to be done. It will definitely be hard to overtake VT (Beamer is his favorite coach).
Not to mention he said he doesn't like cold weather. Think he ends up at VT or Bama, with Michigan fighting till signing day and losing out
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Agreed, the chances for Michigan are slim, but I like that they are in there fighting. As for Hand not liking cold weather, If he wants to play in the NFL, he's going to have to get used to it. What better time to start than in college. Just a thought.
I would think most players hate cold weather. Most just suck it up, and deal with it. Besides, if he's at Ohio State, he won't have to worry about playing in the cold in January.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Is it just me or isn't football supposed to be played in the snow? I remember growing up and spending hours outside playing football with my friends. I guess that is only a Midwest concept, but it brings back good memories.
You are right though, most college teams don't play in the cold in January.
All three Glenville kids are going to end up at OSU with Smith being the exception because we have a few Safeties already. I see talk about OSU recruits going elsewhere didn't take too long for ppl to start getting closer and closer to the ledge again. Here we go...OMG...they're visiting another school (ie EzE, TJ, and so on and so on). Wow...
Thanks for the videos above Gene...really liked Brown...not so sure about Braden Smith...he got beat on each play...but he looks like the size that Meyer's looking for. However...I like O. Brown's size as well as speed for as big as he is. Still saying if he commits...he'll be the next OSU lineman to win some hardware.

I wouldn't mind Braxton Berrios in Scarlet and Grey. Kid can ball.

I just like his name. It is as if Braxton got famous and had a cereal named after him.
LOL >>
Soooo... which is it?
Throw a possible in there somewhere and it might help out understanding.
A kid making their way to Alabama is never good, I think Urban will make sure things end well for us. But it will mean more work on the coaches part. We should be confident, but let's not downplay the impact.
Goes back to the fact that recruiting doesnt end until NSD. With the battle between
SatanSaban and Meyer for the top players heating up this is probably going to be something that happens more and more often. But him trying to poach our 1st recruit at the most needed position causes me to waive my fist at him old man style.Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
Jones looked great in his 1 on 1s I was really excited to see Richardson cuz i thought he would be a kid we would take down the road until I saw him get toasted in all 3 one on one drills
Jones has great feet! After watching these workouts I think the Oline will be in good shape for 14..I take the Alabama offers as a compliment to the buckeyes. They now know TOSU is legit and they are worried... Time to end the SEC reign!
Quincy Wilson's highlights made me laugh. He's physical, that's for sure.
Marcelys jones reminds me if dawson for scum but better!!!! From a better state and program lol

What was William Crest's 40 time? He looks quick and has a good frame for a QB.
Ideally, you'd like your first commit to be a very strong one & a leader/recruiter for the class. Unfortunately, Marcelys Jones is just not that guy. Not that he's a bad kid, just not a 2014 class leader. I've said this elsewhere - he'll be a Buckeye I believe, but it would be nice to have had the first one be a guy who is more concerned with getting other players to come on board with him as opposed to enjoying the recruiting process as he seems to. I see Webb, Campbell, Trout as the leaders of the 2014 class. One thing I noticed in the Marshon Lattimore interview, when asked if Jones was recruiting him, the answer was that they've talk about playing in college together...That's an interesting answer, although I do think Marshon will be a Buckeye eventually based on everything I've read here.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
Obviously I trust Urban, but I wish we would offer Barker. Then again, I trust Urban so...
Gotta wonder with Caleb Henderson apparently visiting the first weekend of March whether they're planning on going with him as the potential QB offer (outside of Watson) instead.
I wouldn't mind that. He's not a statue, and he's got a cannon arm. With Barrett, Jones, and Miller still being on the roster next season, I'd be okay with hedging our bets.
These points articulate what I am hoping for/"know" to be true. Urban has a plan, we just don't know it yet. Glad he is on our side.
