Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets, 2/19 - Recruits impress, visit set (lghl)
Numerous Ohio State recruiting targets impressed scouts at the Best of the Midwest combine and a JUCO OT plans to visit the Buckeyes in November.
Monday was another eventful day in the world of Ohio State recruiting. The Best Of the Midwest combine held in Indianapolis, Indiana had some of the nation's best high school football players on hand to compete against other talented prospects in various drills. Many of the recruits who participated in the event are being recruited by Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes; some of them left scouts leaving the Hoosier state totally impressed.
2014 Ohio State commit offensive tackle Marcelys Jones (Cleveland/Glenville) showed up a slimmer 6-3 320 lbs but twice as mean, impressing everyone with his footwork and overall manhandling of other future D1 studs during 1-on-1 drills. A pair of Jones' Tarblooder teammates didn't let him steal all of the spotlight; Marshon Lattimore showed off his speed, reporting times of 4.48 seconds and 4.49 seconds in the 40 yard dash along with a 10-foot broad jump. Marshon didn't just prove he was quick; the 6-0 170 lb Cleveland native also impressed on the defensive side of the ball, earning MVP with his impressive covering skills and overall ability against other top Midwest talent. 2014 safety Erick Smith put up some impressing numbers himself, reporting a 40 yard dash time of 4.62 and a solid shuttle time of 4.07. Smith also showed off his covering skills by breaking up numerous passes thrown his way. Many scouts think Lattimore and Smith could join Jones as part of the Buckeyes 2014 recruiting class before its all said and done.

'15 WR George Campbell talks recruiting future, Ohio State with LGHL (lghl)
The class of 2014 has taken center stage when it comes to recruiting future Buckeyes, but there are some special prospects in the class of 2015 that deserve some recognition as well. We talk with '15 WR George Campbell about his season and what he thinks about Ohio State.
In the past couple of years, recruiting future classes is more and more becoming a common thing among college coaching staffs. It doesn't seem to long ago USC was offering - and receiving a verbal - from a kid in the 8th grade at the age of 13. While schools haven't taken on measures that drastic, coach Meyer knows what he's doing when he begins offering a look into the future classes. One of his offers in the class of 2015 was WR George Campbell. The Florida-native receiver caught the eye of the staff and has since received an offer and continued to keep contact with the staff throughout the past weeks.
Ohio State hasn't been the only one impressed with Campbell, as the 6'3", 180-pound recruit already holds 12 offers from top schools including Arkansas, Clemson Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt, among others. In the 2012 season, as a sophomore in high school, Campbell had 30 receptions for 766 yards and had 5 touchdowns. Playing on both sides of the ball, Campbell also contributed 57 tackles, proving his versatility on the gridiron.
While it's still very early in the process, we spoke with Campbell about the recent attention he's received and where Ohio State stands with the rest of the teams vying for his services.

OT Jamarco Jones High on Ohio State’s Wish List (the ozone)
After coming up a bit short in the 2013 class, Ohio State is in desperate need of offensive linemen for 2014. Even Urban Meyer said so during his National Signing Day press conference.
The Buckeyes already have verbal commitments from Lancaster Ohio’s Kyle Trout and Cleveland Glenville’s Marcelys Jones, but they lose the bulk of their starting offensive line after the 2013 season.
“We're going to have four starters walk out the doors next year this time,” Meyer said back in early February.
“And we're not prepared for that. So that's area number one. And 1A, 1B, 1C is offensive linemen for next year.”
Another prospect being recruited hard by Meyer and the Ohio State staff for 2014 is Jamarco Jones out of Chicago. Jones recently won the overall MVP for the Core 6 Athletes Showcase in Cincinnati, Ohio. Standing 6-5 and weighing in at 285 pounds, Jones can play either guard or tackle but projects as a tackle at the next level.
He is rated as one of the top players at his position around the country and already has offers from schools like Florida, Michigan, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Ohio State. He took some time to let Ozone in on his recruiting process.

TROLL TUESDAY: Ohio State's Thad Matta has got to go (lghl)
This is the curious case of Thad Matta. How much longer can Ohio State really flounder under his oppressive regime?
Rather than wait for more mainstream columnists (or us, somewhat inadvertently) to deliberately bait you into further blind Internet anger, following the lead of the mothership, we believe it's our civic duty to set the curve ourselves – and do so shamelessly. On Troll Tuesdays, we'll attempt to construct tomorrow's blatant attempt at pageviews today, building the worst inflammatory argument possible one single-spaced sentence at a time.
Sunday in the "FANPOSTS" section of popular Internet weblog Land-Grant Holy Land there was a post calling for Thad Matta to be fired. This got me thinking. And it should get you thinking too.
If you're an Ohio State fan, what are you waiting for?
Columbus, the time has come.
Ohio State could definitely use an upgrade at head coach over what Thad Matta has to offer.
Previous to Thad Matta settling in Columbus, the highest win total a Buckeye team had in a season was 27 wins in 1990-91 and 1998-99 (allegedly). Since then, teams that Matta has coached have eclipsed the 27 win total in just three different seasons, but I think it's safe to attribute that to teams playing a lot more games against bad competition.

Thanks Gene! I would love to get Jamarco Jones plus two more linemen in addition too M.Jones and K.Trout.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
Lonnie was rated 90? I feel like that's better than what we've been hearing recently. Good for him...
I like the kid a ton. His shiftiness at that height really sets him apart. His hands seem solid, but I only have the old highlight reel to go on. I hope that we get him.
Anyone care to pronounce that for me?
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Manti Teo's fake girlfriend is a coach? Has he ever met Kauha'aha'a'haha'aha'haha in person?
It's like Shalala from da U, only funnier.
lol I'll show myself out now...
Because I couldn't go for three. -Woody-
My take on it was
Cow-Ha-a-Ha-a
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Ka-u-ha-a-ha-a
I think that's right. I should know since my college roommate's middle name was Keopuulaokalani.
Gonna be a battle to get Peppers
thanks Gene
Reading about people calling for Matta to get fired drives me crazy. Team has competed for B1G championships most years. Yes, it's a down year, but we don't have the talent that some teams in the conference do. For heavens sake, it's not the end of the world.
I made a comment yesterday that before Matta came around, would people really be that upset with a kind of down year like this one? Not likely. It's a testament to what kind of coach he really is and just how far he's brought the basketball program. It used to be an afterthought, now it's one of the better programs in the country most years.
Fire Coach Matta? REALLY???
Maybe these players don't internalize his message? They don't seem to want to play together. I'm over it already. Ready for baseball! :)
FYI: I read the 'fire Thad Matta' article. The writer from LGHL wasn't serious. It was satire.
I wouldn't say fire Matta, but he continually brings in top talent and our teams always choke! But playing basketball, it has little to do with coaching but in Matta's case, his rotations are what make me mad. We'll have a hot hand in the first half like Q vs Duke, then he doesn't play him at all in the 2nd half until the last min when we needed 3s. Hopefully we'll eventually get it together and cut down those nets sooner rather than later.
Updated
Wow. Clemson is on a lot of short lists for this class. Have to reel them in, of course, but they're doing some work, for sure.
I would rather Lattimore not wait until after his officials but it is what it is.
According to Dallis Todd's 247 page, he has us as "warm" and all other schools "cool". Does anyone have any source of info for this aside from the Catching Up Q and A featured here from a few days ago? He is my #2 WR target after Drake Harris and this news has me pumped. I'm just starting to get a little worried though because Florida and Texas A&M have offered in the last week and the whole SEC will have by the end of next week.
I think one of the reasons Dallis Todd is so high on tOSU is that when he got his offer he only had offers from Eastern Washington and New Mexico State, so I think it gave us a head start. I don't know if we are going to stay on top, but I think we are right now. Much like Mixon, also from Cail, his recruiting has blown up after tOSU has offered (although Mixon did have more offers then Todd) These are two recruits I'd love to pull from the Left Coast.
I really like Todd too! I've been able to find a few tid bits of info on him (nothing too earth shaking) but they aren't necessarily from today and I don't want to hijack Gene's great thread today! I guess I could put together a Daillis Todd Highlights and Info page with the info I do have if people wanted me too...
That would be great!
Here you go: DALLIS TODD WR HIGHLIGHTS AND INFO
"Lonnie Johnson rated 90 by 247Sports"
Just checked out his profile, and couldn't help but notice where he was from.
I was roommates in college for 4 years with a guy who was a Music Theater major. So I can't help it if the first thought that came to mind was whether Lonnie Johnson is going to play the trombone in the big parade or not... (in case you're confused, I'm referring to The Music Man)
***Bows head and hands over man card***
hey, I don't have ESPN Insider, but I found this under the "Rumors" section.
You think they're talking about Dante Booker?
Just checked it out and yes it's referring to Dante. AND ALEX IS QUOTED in the piece. He says its a matter of when not if. Parris saying he could probably get him.
nice...thanks
Are you satisfied with your ESPN insider subscription? I planned on switching today, but when I asked to cancel my 247 sub, they offered me 3 free months
I know you weren't asking me but now that they have the buckeyenation site I am much more satisfied than I was. Bournival does a good job of getting regular pertinent stories and $40 isn't bad for the year. They do quote 11W sometimes as well. Which shows they are not just trying to create their own fluff. However you are stuck with that thing they call a magazine.
I plan on switching as soon as bucknuts stops giving me free stuff haha. I'm actually ok with the magazine. I'll probably get the 2 year sub, so with all the insider content on the site, added to a mediocre magazine that I can get a few minutes of enjoyment from every few weeks, I'd say 2.50 a month isn't too bad.
I agree with LA. For $40 its reasonably priced. Their rumors section is good if you want information on the entire FBS as opposed to simply just OSU. BuckeyeNation is a good look every once in a while. I prefer the information I get from 11W, but its still pretty good. I do like it however in terms of recruiting and their other paywall articles. Many of the articles that are free on their website are fine, but the information they have on their paywall is more insightful and less ESPN hammerheads. I don't particularly care for the magazine, but its a nice bonus as its free with the account.
EDIT: $2.50 per month for 2 years so about $60 for the period.
