Ohio State Football Recruiting: Why J.T. Barrett Is Hidden Gem of 2013 Class (bleacher report)

There are lots of superlatives flying around out there for Ohio State's 2013 recruiting class, and deservedly so. Scout.com ranks it the best in the nation. Rivals.com puts it at No. 2, behind only Alabama's mammoth class. ESPN.com? No. 3.

But even as ESPN.com lauds Ohio State's recruiting class (Insider access required) and names 12 different impact recruits, it somehow neglects to mention the guy in the class who's the best Heisman candidate of them all. You'd think people would notice someone like that.

That future Heisman candidate is J.T. Barrett, who committed to the Buckeyes back in April, then enrolled early in January absent any fanfare. His senior year was quiet on the field as well, as he tore his ACL and meniscus in October and sat out the rest of the year after surgery. So, obviously, Barrett will redshirt in 2013.

Jalin Marshall: 2013 Ohio State football player profiles (LGHL)

In this edition of Bucks to the Future, we help you to get more familiar with one of the earliest commits to the 2013 class. Jalin Marshall was the 2nd recruit of the class of 2013 to give his verbal commitment to Ohio State. Marshall had offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Notre Dame, Pitt, and Tennessee, but knew for a long time that Ohio State was the place for him. Staying in-state close to his family, and being a part of the offensive juggernaut that Urban Meyer is building made the choice to come to Columbus an easy one for Marshall. Locking up the no. 1 player in Ohio according to Scout, Rivals, and 247Composite rankings (no. 2 in Ohio according to ESPN, behind Gareon Conley) so early was a giant win for the Buckeyes, which set the tone for a huge year on the recruiting trail.

Preferred Walk-On Punter Still Leaning Towards Tennessee (The ozone)

It has been nearly two weeks since National Signing Day, when Urban Meyer and his coaching staff landed one of the top recruiting classes in the country.

Ohio State’s 2013 class seemed to have a little bit of everything. Everything that is, except for a punter. Meyer thought he had taken care of that hole on the roster when he landed a commitment from Johnny Townsend, one of the top high school punters in the country, over the summer.

But Townsend pulled a signing day shocker, opting to sign with the hometown Florida Gators after receiving an 11th hour call from head coach Will Muschamp. He was originally offered a preferred walk-on spot with the Gators, but Muschamp called on the Monday before signing day to extend a full scholarship offer.

That was enough to sway Townsend, who has a brother at Florida and where both of his parents went to school. His last-minute decision left Ohio State with a question mark at the punter position, where Ben Buchanan graduated after three years as the starter in Columbus.

Parris Campbell was quoted talking with TOS "I'm pretty sure I can get Dante (Booker) to commit." Yes please.

Am I the only one that finds that quote odd for many reasons?

1. Why would he need to "get him to commit"?

2. Why would he steal a bit of booker's thunder?

3. Pretty sure...... What does that mean?

i think I am over-analyzing this.........

I agree, you're over-analyzing it haha.

Dante Booker posted after Campbell originally committed "Should I join my bro Parris?" or something to that effect. I think Booker is all Buckeye, he's just waiting for the right time for himself/his family. Probably after his next visit or two.

Yeah, I saw that tweet.

I am sure you are correct and I am WAY over-analyzing.
