247Sports 2014 All-American Team (247sports)
The second annual 247Sports All-American team for the Class of 2014 features many of the top college prospects and high school football players in the country from the 2012 season.
The state of Virginia leads the way with three first-team selections, followed by California, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan and Texas with two each. Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee also are represented on the first team.
The 247Sports All-American teams are distinctly different from the 247Sports prospect rankings. The teams are based on two main criteria- production on the high school football field and college projections. The rankings are long-term projections for prospects based on highest possible ceiling and upside.
“The All-American team is a combination of highly thought of prospects and players who turned in terrific seasons on the field,” 247Sports Director of Scouting Gerry Hamilton said. “It’s a nice blend of the cream of the crop prospects that were productive and a few prospect not as heavily recruited that turned in sensational campaigns. The difference with the All-American team, and the 247Sports prospect rankings is the rankings are a long term projection of prospects with player development and continued ascension being the key.”
There are 10 repeat first-team selections from the 2012 Class of 2014 All-American team, including Leonard Fournette, Da’Shawn Hand, Damian Prince, Cameron Robinson, Andrew Brown, Raekwon McMillian, Jabrill Peppers, Marlon Humphrey and Quin Blanding.

BuckeyeNation Week in Review
- Urban Meyer is still the closer.
-
Introducing RecruitingNation's No. 3 ranked recruiting class.

-
It's the best OSU class since ESPN started its rankings.

-
Ohio State and that school up north were the definite class of the Big Ten in this recruiting cycle.

-
The secondary, with the addition of Vonn Bell on signing day, could be incredible.

-
The defensive line isn't too shabby, either.

- New Buckeyes WR-RB Dontre Wilson is the latest to get the Percy Harvin comparison, writes Austin Ward. (And maybe the closest comparison to the former Gators star.)
-
There were some tense moments, but the Buckeyes held on to Ezekiel Elliott.

-
They did lose two players who were verbally committed -- WR Taivon Jacobs and punter Johnny Townsend, who flipped to his favorite team growing up, Florida, after a late offer came in. (And despite rumors to the contrary, his family said he did have a commitable Ohio State offer. If he had signed, the Buckeyes had until August to get one spot to get to the 82-scholarship limit.) Townsend committed to the Buckeyes on the day BuckeyeNation launched last June.

- A look back at our live blog from signing day.

ESPNU's RecruitingNation breaks down two big winners on signing day (spoiler: Ohio State is one).

Urban Meyer has the reputation, but Luke Fickell also showed why he's one of the country's top recruiters.

- Kerry Coombs added a job title as special-teams coordinator.

A look at the top five and bottom five recruiting moments from the 2013 cycle.

-
The Buckeyes' class did lack depth at offensive line. That will be a definite focus for 2014.

-
An Illinois defensive end received an offer, as did a junior-college OT.

- Meyer and Brady Hoke agree that unlimited correspondence is not a positive development in recruiting.

Awesome day to be a Buckeye Fan with 3 grey boxes today!!! Thanks for all the quick bits Gene!!
SCOTTC.
or you could say it is a GREYT day to be a Buckeye
Allen Trieu asked Jamarco if he was joining the committment party and I guess he said he wants to take a few more visits first, but it looks great for the good guys.
Jamarco said hell committ before the season starts but we are def in the drivers seat right now.
yea man, great day for football, so far tough for the Basketball buckeyes, but things are still bright for the S&G
Hopefully JaQuan Lyle liked what he saw. We need some scoring and a point guard.
+1 Nice! I hope Booker follows suit! Thanks for the great Quick Bits today and everyday Gene!!!
No doubt in my mind that we get Booker eventually.
I had a feeling this may be coming soon with Dante....now bring Malik McDowell with Marshall from TSUN and I'm one happy guy;-)
"There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you."
"I love football. I think it is most wonderful game in world and I despise to lose."
Woody Hayes 1913 - 1987
Oh,hell yes,to Dante!!lol
SCOTTC.
Great day indeed for our football Buckeyes! The momentum continues to build excitement for the 2013 campaign and beyond. Like many, I have a feeling the 2014 class will fill up quickly. Go Bucks!
I've been thinking about Urban's comments about later games, and wonder, what pull does he or would Gene Smith even have over something like this? Isn't that pretty much the TV Networks' decision? Other than pushing Delaney and the B1G to allow November night games are his comments really going to be able to help get later games?
Not networks decision but the BIG's and the one rule I want to see changed. More night games in the shoe would be a huge recruiting boost. I would think if all or most coaches get on board then I can see this one getting overturned.
Yeah, I've always heard the B1G had decided that November night games were largely untenable due to the weather conditions/cold. But I could be wrong on that.
As you guys said, Delaney said he was pretty open to it. And frankly, it hasn't been all that cold in November as of recently anyway, save a week here or there.
Agreed just another archaic rule this conference has that needs to change if theyre truly committed to being as a whole relevant again.
Meyer! Roll on young man, roll!
Damien Harris was at the game, arrived later than the other recruits.
+1 That's great to hear! He's pretty good!
Yep. As far as height goes, he looks a little bigger than 5'10. Also, Trout looked to have an 1.5-2 inches on J Jones.
We made Andrew Brown's Top 10 today, kid is a beast.
Some hope but will be very tough to get believe UNC is out front on this one.
Agreed, I don't think we have a chance with him, but I love being wrong. Glad to see we're still in the hunt for him right now.
Oh yeah no I def agree if anything get him on campus then its game on. Ive thought about it today and need to watch more film but Brown and McDowell seem like similar skill sets. Theyre both DT size but athletic enough for SDE and I think the staff feels more confident about Malik. You think that would be a good comparison though between Andrew and Malik?
So how many DL will they take in the 2014 class? 2-3 tops? Lets say they get McDowell too. Would they be done at that position or still go after one of the top national guys like Hand, Andrew Brown and Lorenzo Carter? And what about kids like Mustipher who plays both OL and DT?
I think Urban wants to takeat least 4 DL every year, he said you need numbers like that in each class in his NSD presser.
Under normal scholarship circumstances I would vote for a new starting line up each year. That's 22x4 or 88 scholarships which leaves room for 3 transfers, injuries, etc to get down to 85. Normally there will be more than 3 people leave over 4 years which means you would have room for a punter, kicker, long snapper, and a couple of others to fill the holes when people leave.
Ok so then one would think the secondary will only be 2-3. With a smaller class of 20-22 they have to be selective with certain positions and the positional breakdown.
1 QB
2 RB
3 WR
2 ATH
1 TE
4-5 OL
4 DL/DT
3-4 LB
3 DB
1 K/P
24-26 total
With 13 seniors getting to 20 might not happen. I'll guess 18.
For 18 I'll say...
QB: 1
RB: 1
TE: 1
WR: 2
OL: 4
DL: 3
LB: 3
DB: 3
I say it'll be about 20ish, maybe 21-22 when it's all done.
1 QB
2 RB
2 WR
1 TE
5 OL
2 DL
4 LB
3 DB
1 K
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Home of Mike Nugent FIFY
Hearing he will tryout to be our punter
Kid's "tape" is really good. Has a hell of a leg, could see him potentially seeing the punter job. He is rated ~.800 on the 247Composite.
I mean, did we really think Urban was going to stop chasing punters just because Townsend bolted to UF? The man is a machine.
Now THAT is some very promising news! I hope he does decide on OSU and can fill the punter role. Could he potentially, eventually do K/P both? Don't see that very often if he can.
That clears things up on the matter
Added a Marshon Lattimore interview
He seemed very enthusiastic to be talking to that scUM reported lmao.
Wow, away from the site a day and three new recruits. Urbz is killing it.
hahahaha more butthurt for the Vols faithful. Please come to OSU Gantz!
Knoxville is going to blow up if we get this kid too.
5 commits already, this is going to be a great class. I hope harris commits.
Harris is a RB in the '15 class.
Probably means Drake Harris. The elite WR from Michigan in '14 class.
Ah gotcha my bad thought he meant Damian since he was on campus this weekend.
It seems to me that more O linemen than other positions tend to commit early in the recruiting cycle and stay committed unless something major happens (coach leaves, etc.). Is there something in the mentality (loyalty?) that drives this, or am I way off-base here?
My theory is they are less volatile from a recruiting perspective because of the nature of their positions. For example linemen don't become 6'6 300 between their junior and senior years, some may but most don't. They develop at a more obvious and metered pace. There were 2 guys on my HS team who were superprep 500 players (yes that dates me), one a lineman in the class ahead of me and one a tailback in my class. The lineman started as a freshman, was all state as a sophomore and was a 2 way all state player as a senior. The running back didn't play as a freshman, had about 350 yards as a sophmore and set the school rushing record as a junior. The lineman started getting letters after his freshman year, the tailback didn't start playing until he was a sophmore. There are obviously examples where this isn't the case but it is a plausible reason why lineman are more solid earlier and skill position players rise quickly and go from thinking about playing at Mount Union to Bowling Green to Cincy to Ohio state in 1-2 years.
Yes drake harris, after all we are focused on the 2014 class
Added the targets we are going after who've been named to their 247 all-american team respectively and also a snippet of the article.
JuCo OL Chad Mavety will visit Ohio State on April 6th. Holds an Ohio State offer.
Great day to be a Buckeye! Meyer is starting fast for 2014! I think this class will fill up fast. A lot of people think we are going to take 4 LBS in this class and I don't see how that is possible, we took 5 last year and 2 true LB this year no way we take 4 this year depth isn't as bad we won't even graduate anyone to my knowledge. This is how I see the class playing out, I don't see more then 20 guys in this class unless people leave early unexpectedly.
QB- 1
RB-1
WR-2
TE-1 could maybe even not take one this year with small class
OL-4
DL-4
LB-3
DB-2-3
ATH-1-2
DB and ATH I think they might not take as many guys we landed a bunch of Top DB's this year probably only need 1-2 CB and a safety
I thin Meyer wants a couple true WR in this clas with a couple ATH maybe that could play either DB or WR which ever is needed when the class fills out. I don't see any way though we take more then 1 RB with our depth chart stock piled, and as I said before no way we take 4 LB in this class but what do I know!
Also a side note, my Fiance is a Teacher at Lancaster High school where Kyle Trout goes. She told me today she see's him in the hall and doesn't think he is that big of a guy! I was like he is 6'6 285lbs thats pretty big! But maybe he can add on another 20lbs I have seen him before two looks pretty thin for being 285
It's a little scary that he wants to visit Michigan, just sayin...
Who wants to visit mich?
If Lawrence Marshall brings in Malik McDowell i'll be giddy as a school girl
