Not much is gained from bashing Paterno's widow. Lord knows what kind of hell her life has been losing her long-time husband on top of the Sandusky mess fallout. I wouldn't wish that hell on my worst enemy.
As for the PSU fanbase, eh, who cares. They'll all be better served putting their collective energy into preventing this level of BS from ever happening again at their school. I always shake my head whenever PSU talks/writes like they're actually a part of the B1G. It's my personal bias that hasn't subsided since PSU was admitted to the conference. Also, an appropriate amount of time has not passed since the Paterno/Sandusky/Spainer scandal/crimes for any PSU advocate to make morality statements regarding any topic.

With their situation, they are really not in this fight as Bob is doing pretty well given their circumstances. Other than the very small percentage that actually get the message across the B1G that Urban is sending, this article seems to represent the majority. I like how every other BIG fan base talks about how certain they are that Urban will retire almost instantly. Where does this come from? He was at Florida for 6 years. Is this their way of holding on to a little bit of hope that they can win the BIG in the near future? If so, very sad.

Screw Penn State... Have you seen the goodwill Buckeye fans (for the most part) have shown Penn State? Buckeye fans created sites on places like Facebook etc to reach out to Penn State fans and their univeristy to show support for them thru the scandal...and I saw a lot of great posts back and forth between the 2 fan bases.

When one team/program has an inordinate amount of success the haters come out in force. Think NY Yankees. They've won so much for so long that unless you're connected in some way to that organization you probably can't stand them. Same with Ohio State. The numbers don't lie. Its also funny to me how most of these fanbases cite Meyer's illegal recruiting tactics but yet none of them can come up with anything actually illegal. PSU flips guys from Boston College or other programs of that type, Michigan flips from Iowa and Illinois. The difference is we flip our guys from programs like Auburn, Oregon, Michigan, Penn State, and Notre Dame. It's only cool to flip players from schools that have no football prestige.

Their arguments are hilarious, but ours weren't all that much different when Meyer was in Florida, and they aren't much different about our opinons of the SEC in general. A lot of what they say about Meyer is exactly what folks in these parts used to say about him all the time. They bring up the school rankings academically between the SEC and B1G, which let's face it are irrelevant. I've always hated the argument, well the SEC may win championships but we have X amount of top 50 schools and they don't.
In their article the say Bielema has no credibility now saying we don't want to be the SEC, yet he took off for the SEC. Then they go on to say he was right! Then they start praising Tressel? REALLY???? lol. Penn State folks are hilarious.
It cracks me up they hate Meyer so much being that JoePa wanted Meyer to be his successor. I thought everything Joe says was gospel up there.
I don't really think Penn State was really the focus of Urban's comments. They didn't do too bad on the recruiting trail with all of the problems they have. It was more aimed at teams like Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Purdue, and Illinois who really got a lot of MAC level talent.
Actually for how terrible some of the bottom feeders are I think that they did quite well. Northwestern got a really good qb and Indiana actually had one of their best classes in a while nabbing several 4 star prospects and ending up as the #6 ranked class in the big ten according to rivals. The main culprits to me are Wisconsin, Minnesota, Purdue, Iowa and Nebraska.
Wait, I'm confused . . . are there two Urban Meyers out there? I thought PSU tried getting Urban Meyer as THEIR coach and all their fans were giddy with excitement because Urban would become their HC? Surely that Urban Meyer isn't the same Urban Meyer that's potrayed in the article. Right?

What gets me about all of these articles and blog forums bashing Meyer is that they don't have any real ammunition. The closest things that they have as proof are the arrests at Florida, but there haven't been the same issues so far at OSU. Then they start talking about "cutthroat tactics" (which means what? he tries harder, it's not like he can force recruits to commit by threatening them) and "win at all cost attitudes" (but where are the costs? he has never had any major violations anywhere he has coached). I get that he can rub people the wrong way, but until there are actually meaningful accusations, I will continue to roll my eyes while we roll up wins.
At least ttun's coach gets it (and Meyer's comments weren't meant for him), which means that we'll be the two relevant teams in the B1G for years to come.

Quit reading at "Meyer wins at all costs" comment. We Buckeye fans "now know" that is as far from the truth as one could get. By all accounts Meyer has never had a major NCAA violation (like most of the SEC), has never over signed (like most of the SEC), has attempted to keep the players in line (Cam N., Berry, etc), and was able to compete as one of the best in the SEC and the definitively best in the B1G. All I can say is I love Ohio State more than any other sports team I follow. If we annually failed to crack the top 25 in recruiting but some other Big 10 team had top 5 classes every year, I would be frustrated & asking why we aren't doing what they are. As much as I love Ohio State & will stick around through thick & thin (2011), one has to admit that college football is much more fun and interesting when your team is winning. It's the main reason why so many people in Wyoming have no interest in the sport. Nobody just wakes up in the morning & says "I wanna follow a losing football team, not because I was born into the fanbase, but because it seems interesting". I just can't understand BIG logic..

To be honest, the only comment against Urban Meyer that has any credibility was the one at the bottem. The comment said something to the effect of I hate Urban Meyer because he is/was the coach at two of my least favorite schools, and goes on to say he would only hate him more if he took the USC job.
I like that the writer says at the end of the story that everyone in the B1G is now against OSU...while that may be true, I believe it's always been true. Having gone to Pitt, I would prefer that. It always seemed to me that Pitt was a more natural rival than PSU, since the mindset of central PA seems more like the east-coast mentality. So it would have made more sense to me if PSU had joined the Big East rather than the B1G.

I think Urban's sentiments regarding the conference are needed. Kids don't care about tradition much anymore, and tradition, alone, will not lead to a rise in the B1G. I think OSU and Michigan are there. Neb, Wisc, MSU, and (normally PSU) are right there with enough to get there. We need a resurgence from the bottom 6.
I especially am for more night games; especially rivalry games. And bring in the big schools out of conference for primetime games, as well.

Having lived in Minnesota for over 25 years, I am amazed how fatalistic the Gopher fans are. A 6-win season is success, and the coach cancels out of mildly challenging non-conference games to help with the W/L ratio! Really?! Just to get in the Meineke Car Care Bowl?
At least Urb speaks the truth: the conference better wake up and invest in their programs like tOSU and ttun or there is no hope. Always would rather hear the truth than live in the past or hang onto illusions of gradeur.

So because a crappy SBNation article embellished an Urban quote jokingly into being an attack on the other B1G schools, that makes Urban some sort of bully? I'm pretty sure every other coach in the B1G would love to get better players, including Bill O'Brien who probably was going hard as Urban says in keeping his class in tact given the sanctions.
