At the Massillon SPARQ event he measured in at 6'1" 181lbs and ran 4.42 laser timed 40 which was fastest by wide margin. Not bad for a 15 yr old kid :) Gonna bet hell climb the rankings as the year goes on.
Edit: Also forgot to add he is wearing his Buckeye socks :)

Thanks for the update! It's crazy that Parris is only 15, it'll be interesting to see how he develops in the coming years.

Wait, he's 15 years old and coming out of HS next year? He's going to be like max 17 by time on college campus then?
Yes hell be 16 when he hits campus he was 13 when he was on their track team when they went to states his freshman year I believe. This kids development could be really really special could potentially outgrow the slot position.
4.42 laser timed? That's blazing fast. That's gotta be like a 4.3 hand timed.
i have to pinch myself!!
flash gordan!!!
knucklehead
Upvote for Flash Gordon reference!
And another FG upvote. Those shows were really something back when.
So does that mean his parents enrolled him a year early and he has a late birthday on top of that? Usually stud athletes are the opposite and the oldest in their grade. This kid is a sleeper and will end up a monster in the Shoe.
Good question seems like the only logical answer would be that or he jumped a grade either way hope this gets more people excited about his potential.
I believe I saw somewhere that he skipped kindergarten.
This is correct, he skipped kindergarten.
I think he's about to turn 16 so he's gonna be 17 when he hits campus, and turn 18 before his sophomore year, right? If he was in the 2015 class, he'd end up as a top-5 player overall, easily. I'm super excited for this kid.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Could be wrong but think he might try to enroll early which would make him 16 but yeah 17 max. Either way hes young for his class and Im really excited to see how his measurables and skills evolve.
He'll turn 17 right before his freshman season is what I mean. I could be wrong, though. I've been wrong about things before.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Believe your right on this one though Im sure well know at some point.
His birthday is in July, so you are correct.
That's Zeke speed. He put up a 4.42 at Sparq.
That is blazing fast!!!
Any other updates from our targets/ local guys there?
LB by the name of Jerome Baker from my alma mater Benedictine put up a SPARQ score of 106 which Givler called a huge number for a sophomore. Also Shaun Crawford from St. Eds ran a 4.51 and LJ Scott RB from Hubbard put up a 110.82 score.
He's not necessarily a tOSU target yet, but this score could possible help him become one:
This kids dad has been a coach at massilon a long time
This kid is a football junkie and I am looking for big things out of him at massilon this yr.
Devers-huffman-whitfield massilon could have 3 B1G players next yr and that's after losing conley to tosu n kempt to oregon st

stark county football
Kid put up some solid numbers. Seems a little small to be a TE 6'2'' a buck 97 sounds more like a WR height and weight IMO.
That 40 time alone will have him jumping the recruiting services' lists... Oh, that and Urban's interest/his commitment to tOSU.
Wow Paris Campbell Jr Are you kidding me. Speed and his film is sick this just maybe the steal of the class I mean rankings wise but by the he's done in highschool he'll probaly be one of the best.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
Comparing Campbell's laser timed 40 with non-laser timed 40's is not doing it justice. ESPN and Nike kept a leaderboard of the fastest SPARQ testing 40 times that were ran last year at all of the local combines and The Opening.
The laser timed 4.42 that Paris just ran would have been good for tying for 7th overall nationally for the entire year!
You might recognize some of the names that tied him or were faster:
Jeryl Brazil
Levonte Whitfield
Mike Mitchell
Jalen Ramsey
Shakeir Ryan
Hakeem Deggs
Altee Tenpenny
Colin Spencer
Ezekiel Elliot
Those are literally the only players who ran times equal or faster than Paris, and these kids ran these during their senior years.
He just put up an elite laser time that should easily put him in the top 10 nationally in terms of speed. It will be exciting to watch how he progresses and how he performs at camps with the ball in his hand.
http://espn.go.com/high-school/football/events/nike-sparq-combines/2012/results/_/sort/40time
Those kids were 2-3 years older than Parris, too. That's insane.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
It still blows my mind that Mike Mitchell is on that list...
Agreed! Watching his video, it shows up..
paris"GINN" campbell
knucklehead
Mike "Ginn" Mitchell
How cool would it be to have a LB return a kick.
I'm not disputing that this kid is fast but he is not comparable to Teddy Ball Game. Teddy had elite track speed but on the field he had world class speed. Ginn was the fastest Buckeye I have ever seen in all of my 36 yrs. Teddy was so good that he was able to make a Tressel offense look aggressive. That being said I love kids like him that dream about being a Buckeye. He is obviously an amazing talent and a great addition to the offensive juggernaut that Urban is building. Now all we need is about 4 or 5 elite O lineman to block for him in this class.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
Agreed! We are stocking up on WR's (we got the slot guys in '13', now we need a couple outside guys) between this year and last, now lets keep Braxton healthy with some corn fed O-linemen.
i still think galloway coulda ran with ginn
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
You are right, he could run with Ginn but Teddy was faster. However Galloway was a far more superior WR. Same could be said about Glenn
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
Agreed. Galloway's speed may be getting underapreciated as time goes by. Didn't he put up one of the fastet football 40 times ... ever?
Wow ... imagine those two on the field at the same time for tOSU. Wow ...
Trotwood-Madison. Once a Ram, Always a Ram.
So could Gamble, Colzie, Lenny Willis, Chekwa and Demetrius Stanley
Not to take any love away from Paris, but we have a linebacker that is faster than all but like three kids in his recruiting class. Anyone who says Urban doesn't love speed is a liar.
This should make his rankings go up!
I love it: Sneaky fast and seems to love OSU already! Great find Gray.
Definitely the socks, lol
shoes look like someone used a fire extingushers on them, just sayin'
@OSUCavsfan89
Just another tidbid. Ohio State ATH commit Paris Campbell Jr. told ESPN that he is pretty sure he'll get LB Dante Booker to commit to OSU.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
It's the socks!
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
Sorry for the double posts.

And Parris Campbell just became my favorite recruit of this class...
^ Concur.
The 2012 National Champions.
That's awesome to hear from Parris!
I think him and Booker have known they'd be going to OSU together for a while.
I agree I think he just going to take his time and ultimately he's a buckeye.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
To be completely honest until he committed I never really thought he was tOSU offer material. After the offer and commit I did a little more research and it turns out Parris is one heck of an athlete. I like to be wrong in these situations lol.
Good thing for him he didn't want to go to michigan...he is too fast for them to want him.
Soph LB/RB Justice Hart Cleveland Glenville (2015) posts a 93.38 SPARQ rating..some nice talent at the combine today...
The numbers being thrown around really make you realize how rediculous Mike Mitchell's 154.47 are.
A 4.39 40 at 6-4 215? Nuts.
but Parris is 15. Mitchell did that at 17 (I think, maybe 18). Big difference between muscle and size between 15 and 17. Even moreso between 17 and 20.
Not saying what Mitchell did wasn't amazing, just saying what Parris did was probably equally amazing because at 15 there is still a lot more development needed.
Do you realize that if Mike Mitchell gets a 40 yard running start he'll tackle you traveling at 18.64 mph!?!?!? Ouch.
What was Campbells sparq rating?
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
92.37 sparq rating--but he said in an interview that he is probably coming in as a slot reciever his freshman season and if he gets bigger, he hopes to transition to a running back later on. SPARQ includes tests such as a Kneeling Power Ball Toss, which isn't really a critical component for a 15 year old kid that is probably going to be a slot reciever to start out as. I feel like the two most important attributes for a slot reciever, he just killed.
I really have no doubt this kid will get bigger and stronger (and what's really scary--probably faster!) I can't wait to see this kid develop.
LBs, power RBs, and TEs should and for the most part, will put up the best SPARQ scores. Sometimes large WRs get up in the top scores too, but while his scores were ridiculous, Mitchell basically put himself in the percentile that was expected of him.
I call bullshit on buck-I.8:
Mike Mitchell would of had the highest SPARQ rating in history with 131.00; he got 154.47. That is not expected of superman. I'm not quite sure that Mike Mitchell isn't Clark Kent yet.
Did you pick those specific athletes for any specific reasons? Other than Clay, I would't put any of those guys in a category to beat a strong LB group.
Again though, don't misconstrue what I'm trying to say. Mitchell had a ridiculous score, and we might not see that kind of mix out of a high school kid for another few decades. That said, don't compare his scores against the spread of the field. I simply hypothesized that the median of the LBs will be higher than the WR/slot RBs by quite a bit, so to be impressed by Campbell's score, using Mitchell's as a paradigm kind of confounds the statistics.
From wikiepedia (see the quotes?)
Yeah, but what's the parity? Listing "famous people that did this" does little to refute or support either point..
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/news/story?id=6155236
Renaldo Nehemia comes to mind.
P.S. I don't think I.8's points are controversial, muchless bullshit (at least today!)
Straight from wikipedia...
But if you look at the Sparq website, they have slightly different measureables for different sports.
Not sure what was going on at the event Mitchell set the record but this also went on there:
"Alabama commit Altee Tenpenny (North Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock) took second place in the event with a score of 144.69, while running back Derrick Henry (Yulee, Fla./Yulee) finished third (144.60)." All would have been records...
Haha I get that it's from wikipedia, I'm just not seeing the point of inclusion. But yeah, you do bring up a good point. I don't think kids are suddenly getting way more athletic, at least not to that degree. Makes you wonder what kind of causes for error/disparity over time exist.
The above poster has linked the ESPN article as well, which shows that all the best scores (before The Opening) were from the last two high school classes. I'd like to see an explanation for why that is?
Bigger guys who can run tend to do better because the SPARQ is a weighted score. It takes into account your measurables against your weight and size. So yes, Power RBs, Bigger WRs, TEs, DEs, LBs, and some OT/Mobile Fullbacks will produce ridiculous scores. Because of the type of athlete Mitchell was, it was expected of him to produce such a highly weighted score.
Thank you for putting my argument into words that are undoubtedly less ambiguous haha
@I.8, I try! Some of these guys don't really practice for the shuttle and get the timing perfect for the 40s, Mitchell did both perfectly.
There is something to proper training and nutrition. I found the link below really interesting, which shows a similar phenomenon in the olympic 100 meter:
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/08/05/sports/olympics/the-100-me...
Beyond improvement in nutrition and training techniques (which should account only for incremental improvement rather than the recent explosions), you have to think that kids are prepping for the specific drills.
Yeah I think GBB's point probably explains the most. Individual preparation is probably the only way you could see score jumps that are that high across the board. That said, these aren't exactly drills that are all that different from your average combine stuff. It's an interesting phenomenon, to be sure.
Hahaha!! I just checked out the Wiki link to the SPARQ article and saw this:
Gotta love OSU Fans!!
>> Mitchell basically put himself in the percentile that was expected of him.
huh? He set the all time record.
@CC Your comment makes no sense to me. The Poster you are replying to has explained his statement at least 3 times and had it clarified by one other poster. Why not just read the back and forth and maybe critique his argument? the Poster has stated he understands it was an all time record but has made clear he thinks that there are certain advantages inherent to fast linebackers as well as to newer generation kids who know how to train for these events. While you may not agree with him, simply putting "huh? He set all the all time record" both ignores the previous conversation that was had in the thread and the detailed explanation the poster has already given.
"Who cares? Go Bucks." - Aaron Untch
The problem is that he said it was expected of him when it wasn't. Mitchell had the number one and number six SPARQ ratings last year. Which gave him the number one and number two rankings among linebackers. His score was 154.47 the next closest guy was Altee Tennpenny at 144.99. There is not a 9 point gap between any two people in the top 50. So his competition wasn't even close.
He didn't perform within any expectations he exceeded them.

I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault.
JACK TATUM
For his size (to add the weighted bonus) and athleticism, it was within reach. If anyone was going to do it, it would've been Derrick Henry or Mike Mitchell.
That's perfectly fine. I'm just arguing that saying that he can do something and saying that he will do something are two completely different things. And I don't think anyone expected him to do what he did.
I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault.

Yea I tried to never agree with Buck I-8, I was just annoyed by the comment that ignored an entire thread of conversation.

I thought that Buckeye socks were illegal due to aerodynamic and motivational benefits.
