With both Malik McDowell and Clifton Garrett visiting this upcoming weekend, and both having what I assume are commitable offers, does anyone think we get commitments #6 and #7 this weekend. I know McDowell is also heavily considering Notre Dame and Michigan, but I imagine both Webb and Marshall are now in his ear. Garrett has also been to campus several times (Friday Night Lights/Michigan game) and rumored he is prepared to commit somewhere (http://www.landgrantholyland.com/2013/1/23/3905904/ohio-state-recruiting...). Thoughts?

I think Garrett commits... eventually. Just not this weekend. Not sure on MM, but hoping for the best.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
If Garrett commits, I would expect Dante Booker, Jr to follow suit quickly after. That would leave us with 2 LBs. I believe we're only trying to recruit 3 (saving a spot for Raekwon McMillan)- but if we're going with 4, I can see us trying to sign Kyle Berger.
The 2012 National Champions.
I think we get one commit this weekend, and it is L. Johnson. He tried to commit a couple of months ago, and has recently tweeted that he knows where he wants to go. Garrett will commit eventually, but has indicated that he may wait until this summer. MM seems like he may go down to the wire. Just my gut on these three studs.
I don't think we have room for L Johnson given that we already have a WR in the class, and are pursuing guys purported to be more elite
Sadly I agree that L. Johnson may get left out. This will be an interesting recruiting class as the elite players usually wait to commit but will there be room? Committing early to save a spot can be a good thing or a bad thing. It will be interesting to see how Urban deals with this.
We don't have a WR in the 2014 class yet, only Campbell as an ATH/RB. But you are right that there are several other more elite WR/ATH who are high on OSU, including Kitt, Lattimore, Autry and Drake Harris
I think the position they play in HS or are listed as is not particularly relevant.
I would be shocked if L Johnson is allowed to commit. Offensive skill recruits will come only from elite players for at least the next year.
And Artavis Scott...
I think L. Johnson will get the Timmons/Elder treatment. It will not be a commitable offer, but more of a wait and see offer. With the limited scholarships, I just don't see OSU allowing him to commit this early (especially when he tried already and they said no). I think we have a shot of Garrett committing this weekend, probably not with McDowell.
dont we have space for only 17-22 commitments
drew
I think we take 4 linebackers only because Booker projects as a DE in college. I don't see Garrett committing this weekend although it wouldn't surprise me if Malik Mcdowell jumped on board and that's just a gut feeling I can also see holding off on Lonnie Johnson for now I see him as a DB in college and with Peppers having us in his top 5 maybe Johnson won't get in at all. I'm so glad this the last yr on the sclorship reductions its a pain.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
I'm thinking Ole Miss wants Garrett.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
the one with the most postage paid has the cash inside
Looks like a bunch of junk mail to me
I very much doubt MM committs anytime in the near future.
Doubt we get either one this weekend but it can help solidify where we stand with Malik and hopefully distance ourselves from everyone else with Garrett.
While it appears to be early, I think M McDowell is up against the clock. The signing of the first 5 recruits (who are for the most part, excellent but not elite) allows us to only take elite recruits here on out, and there is going to be a race against the clock to commit.
McDowell is #21 in the new rivals. how is that not elite?
Who said he wasn't elite?
actually webb is #32 in the top 100 if im not mistaken, again how is that not elite?
I don't think either commit this weekend.
Don't think that we get either one this weekend. That said, Garret has talked about how he is not going to wait until his All Star game anymore, which says to me he could commit when ever he feels comfortable. I know the staff has been out frequently to visit him and he has been to Columbus several times, I am sure the staff will be pushing hard for a commitment this weekend from him. Whether he takes the bait who knows, but I think he is the more likely out of her and McDowell to do so this weekend. I don't know much about Mcdowell's recruitment, besides that he is a great player, but I'm pretty sure this is his first visit to Columbus (can anyone confirm)? So Its hard to see a prospect as highly coveted as he is commit on his first visit, then again Urban and Co. are on a roll and maybe the "flavor of the month" strikes again.
This weekend should be very telling with Lonnie Johnson. I have to think if he leaves without committing that he will get the slow play and will probably be asked to camp so they can see him live before they would be willing to offer him. The kid is another speedster/raw athlete who with an impressive showing at camps could work his way into a committable offer ala Darron Lee Tim Gardner from last year.
I would rather Garrett wait and take all his visits before he commits. SEC is coming after him hard. An Early commit could mean a late decommit. Better safe than sorry.

I know what you mean about making sure, but I would LOVE to get Garrett here. He is impressive and I think he and McMillian would make a freakish LB corps, not to mention what we already have. I know Booker and Berger are home state guys, but I love the aggressiveness of Garrett. I think we do well with any of the above mentioned 4, but Garrett is one I'd love to see come here.
I'm thinking one of them will...probably Garrett. He's mentioned wanting to announce sooner than later. McDowell will take some time...I think. Depends on how much the other guys from up north start their recruiting pitch for OSU and winning multiple B1G championships with the potential of other great things. I tend to think we get at least two more from up there...and not just to prove a point. But to make sure they know who owns that state....bc it's not them;-)

So what LBs do we take would we take Kwon,Garrett,Berger and Booker?
Follow me @jaythesportsguy
All 4!
Agreed, I think the staff is playing to take all 4.
How can they? If they take 4 OL and 4 LBs, that's nearly half the class!
We def have to take 4 OL. What are the other positions of need after OL?
Follow me @jaythesportsguy
From what everyone is saying we need 4 lbs because the guys we are in on. But for me if we get 3 of those guys it's plenty, we don't have room for 4 lbs and 4-5 OL. U gotta think we take at least 3 DL 1Qb, 2-3 DB, 1TE , and then Meyer will go after a bunch of Ath and Wr.
Don't forget we still need a punter on scholarship. Maybe. We'll see.
L.Johnson got offered early, I think if he wants to commit he will be allowed too.
Question is, was it commitable?
What was the point of the staff offering him so early, When were in on some top notch players if its not even commitable? Thats pointless
i think Lonnie will be in this class. He is a Tracy Sprinkle/Darron Lee type kid. Low rated but the staff thinks they found a diamond in the rough.
#Buckeyes
I have a feeling that Johnson's offer is solid. The kid is a beast, and a hell of a talent.
Don't think it is commitable, and will become less so as each new recruit signs.
I feel like McDowell and Garrett's recruitment will go down to the wire for some reason. Even McMillan, Autry and Hurd who are all Buckeyes leans. Top 50 guys (don't know whether Autry is top 50, but many consider him an elite prospect) usually seem to take their time--going down the NSD this year, it seemed like at least half if not more of the top 50 was still uncommitted. But I'd never put a surprise early commit passed Urban if he's got their ear on a visit.
If I had to guess I'd say McMillan's recruitment lasts the longest of those you mentioned.
I think McDowell, Autry and Hurd will commit sometime before the season (it seems like if you don't commit before the season starts you wait until the winter).
Garrett's I have no idea. Initially I thought he might wait until really late but then he mentioned something about committing earlier than he expected so who knows?
I disagree I think we get McMillan sooner rather than later
McDowell will not commit this weekend. I'll eat a Buckeye sandwich if he does.

Not impressed. Be a real man like Woody and go find yourself a turtle.
Wouldnt that make you really sick, or does it only affect animals? Either way, I wouldnt wish that on such a devout OSU fan as yourself.

Hail - I don't know much about McDowell's recruitment I am sure TSUN and MSU were both in early since he's a Michigan kid. Do you know if he has said much about timeframe, leaders, etc. ?
He wanted to commit to Michigan, last summer, but his dad wouldn't let him. Word is he wants to commit before his senior season starts.
Again, Michigan and ND seem to be leading for his services, but he's gone a bit quiet.

Im assuming niether will. Garret I think ends up a Buckeye but he has enjoyed the process a little to much for me to say he comitts this early. Malyk will be a battle and I would not say we are even the favorite at this point. The longer his recruitment goes the better for us IMO.
I think Garret Booker and McMillan all commit more sooner than later, wouldn't be too surprised if Garret commits this weekend.
Good player's make the play's they're suppose to, great player's make the play's they're NOT !!!
I don't know...Vampire Weekend has a different view on the oxford comma...(NSFW, well, at least they drop a couple choice words)
Weird, I'm literally listening to that song right now. Vampire Weekend is pretty awesome.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Indeed they are. Looking forward to the new album.
If Malik McDowell does commit to OSU, especially if it happens early, there would be a Chernobyl-sized nuclear meltdown on the M-boards. That would be fun to read ;)
I would have to be a hypocrite and troll a little bit, lol.
Johnson if I had to guess.Think the LBs take a little more time.McDowell, who knows what his time table is??
SCOTTC.
I think Mcdowell ends up at ND/Mich and Garrett to us. Mcdowell would be a hard pull IMO but having a visit set puts us in great shape for him.
Definitely think we can get Garrett and McMillian. As far as the defense goes there is only one guy I want more than Kwon. DeShawn Hand. Hopefully we can get back to the top of his recruitment where we belong.
