Wish the best of luck to Johnny Townsend at Florida and time to move on. Although I'm not completely familiar with punters and their recruiting, it seems many of the top rated punters in the 2013 recruiting classes still have not signed the NLOI, including Jimmy Hutchinson, the #1 rated punter on many recruiting sites. He's from Georgia (keep the south pipeline going) and has Auburn as his favorite. I have every confidence Urban could flip him from Auburn. If we truly have a scholarship available, why not offer to Jimmy and call it a day. Thoughts?

IF we do have an open spot then I see no reason not to offer a punter and tell him he can come compete for the starting job from day 1
The way I see it....if he hasn't signed with Auburn....must be willing to look around....I'm sure the staff knows of him, or at least I would think they did.
Not sure on this...but I just looked him up...looks like he committed there last year.
I just checked Auburn's list of 23 commitments on signing day, and Jimmy is definitely not one of them. Still fair game I think.
Ok...I was going off TOS and did a search on him....shoot why not go for him if he is available....with that said, why I'm just a fan and not a coach...lol
Who needs a punter when we are going to score every time we touch the ball?
Is the staff actually going to look for a punter or are they going to let the guys on roster battle it out? We won't know if anyone is leaving until at least spring ball. I'm not sure if these guys will wait that long to sign.
I think Mariotti needs to have a special workout session with Basil, Epitropolous and whoever might be a walk-on who has punted in the past. If they are decent then you bank any room that might open up and save it for the loaded '14 class. If they can't then you tap into Pantoni's network and find a walk-on to kick the ball once a game (hopefully at the most).
Marotti is just the strength and conditioning coach.
I believe that Urbz personally coaches special teams.
I had actually created another thread yesterday asking this very question.
There is also the #5 or 6 punter out there (Crozier) who is a project, but is 6'-7" and 240 lbs. Intriguing.
I'd like to see FrankE give it a go. He was a good punter in HS, and a good athlete as well. Nice to have a punter who can make a tackle should the need arise.
Plus he gives you a great option for a fake punt run since he is a WR, better speed and elusiveness than your typical punter I'm sure.

So by reading that....Meyer could at least contact him?
Punting . . . ? Where we're going we don't need punting.

Yes, Anononym is correct. He already singed his LOI to Auburn but will be a grayshirt.
OSU shouldn't offer a scholy to a punter with the 82 limit till 2015...I was personally surprised Urban did this year. However I do believe it was because of what Urban saw in Johnny. Not to mention he could have been a four yr starter. With the lack of scholarships...I don't anticipate seeing another punter getting an offer. Plus...missing out on JT isn't a big of a deal as many are making it out to be. There are ppl who can punt on the roster right now. Plus (and I'm not trying to be arrogant about our talent now) I really don't think OSU will be punting a whole lot.
