Jalen Hurd was on FRR today via Bucknuts. Here are some of the major tidbits:
* Listed at 6'3" 225 lbs
* Has a great relationship with Coach Drayton, Hinton & Meyer
* Went to OSU/Michigan game. Loved the fans/atmosphere.
* Ohio State is at the top of his list (there was bad reception so I couldn't make out if we are at the top or one of the top)
* Doesn't know when he'll make a decision.

I think he's a Buckeye unless UT has a big year. He grew up a UT fan, but I think he will approach recruiting like Vonn Bell and have a business mindset on it. It might also depend on whether UT will let him play RB. We will use him like Trey Burton was used at UF.
But remember, if Butch Jones had been the coach at UT for Bell's entire recruitment, that's more than likely where he would end up
You are right, but I think Jalen specifically mentioned that on field success was one of the most important things for him, so if he feels that Butch Jones doesn't have the program trending sufficiently upward after one year he might look elsewhere.
UT goes 7-5 at best...and I'm not sure they'll do that with this schedule.

Oh my....have fun with that Vols.
7-5 would be a miraculous season with that schedule.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Not to mention who is gonna be the QB this year?! Last time I checked there were no Mariotta's and Manziel type freshman on that roster = not good.
WKU isn't even a given with Petrino around either.
My first thought was "Austin Peay has a football team? Good for them."
My second thought about that schedule was, "wow, have fun with that Butch."
I am only aware that Austin Peay has a football team, because WIsky put them on their home schedule. That was before Barry led the way (yeah, right) in saying the B1G would no longer schedule DII teams...

I count AT LEAST 3 losses (Alabama, Florida, Georgia), with 4 easily-could-lose games (Oregon, South Carolina, Missouri, Auburn). So if you figure, 3 + (1/2 * 4) = 5 losses more than likely, and that's not even adding in any 'unforeseen' losses either.
I would count @Oregon as a more likely loss than home against Georgia. If they can defend the home turf, they might end up with a decent record. But 5 losses seems like the least number because they would have to beat a solid Vandy team and a likely improved UK team on the road along with a mercurial Auburn team just to prevent 6 losses. Getting SC at home after a bye is fortunate though.
I think 8-4 is possible, but probably their ceiling. They played Georgia tough at Georgia last year, and nearly won. That home game against Georgia is probably more winnable for them than at Oregon (even without Chip, it's tough traveling that far west) and South Carolina (although they were very mediocre on the road last year).
That being said, yeah, 7-5 is probably best case for them.
I think the buckeyes go 11-1 with that schedule....barring injuries. Yes S&G colored glasses are on, but I dont think it's that unrealistic.

I disagree. South Alabama would be a tough game, but I like our chances at home and the rest you can pretty much mark down as a W;)

Thats sad i live in the same town as Austin Peay and hsd no idea they had a football team.
I posted this on the last Hurd thread regarding UT and their upcoming schedule:
I don't expect Tennessee to be very good this season. Their defense was horrific last season and I don't see it getting much better. On offense they will be breaking in a new QB and lost their top 2 receivers. I don't know about their RB situation, but nobody from last year stood out to me. Their O-line is pretty good, so that may be their strong point. It's gonna be an uphill battle for UT to be competitive. I honestly don't know if they'll even get to bowl eligible status this season. On first glance at their schedule, here's what I think:
Aug. 31 Austin Peay Knoxville - W
Sept. 7 Western Kentucky Knoxville - W (but who knows it's Bobby Petrino @ WKU)
Sept. 14 at Oregon Eugene, Ore. - L
Sept. 21 at Florida * Gainesville, Fla. - L
Sept. 28 South Alabama Knoxville - W
Oct. 5 Georgia * Knoxville -L
Oct. 12 Open Date
Oct. 19 South Carolina * Knoxville - L
Oct. 26 at Alabama * Tuscaloosa, Ala. - L
Nov. 2 at Missouri * Columbia, Mo. - toss-up
Nov. 9 Auburn * Knoxville - toss-up
Nov. 16 Open Date
Nov. 23 Vanderbilt * Knoxville - toss-up
Nov. 30 at Kentucky * Lexington, Ky. - W (but last time UT played @ UK, they lost)
I'd say 6-6 is their best shot... I see them losing to UF, Bama, USCe, Oregon, UGA, Mizzou, and Vandy is a toss up. I think Peterman will be their starting QB. He is a redshirt freshman and they are going to be very young at the skill positions. Their defense will have to be very much improved, but I see it taking a few years. I don't see them being very competitive next year.
Since Tennessee is playing @Missouri, I think it's a loss.

Austin Peay W
W Kentucky W
@Oregon L
@Florida W
South Alabama W
Georgia L
‘Cocks L
@A school with a mascot that sounds like a Kotex advertisement L
@Missou L
Auburn W
Vandy W
@Kentuckee W
Florida's offense should be shut into somebody's netherregions and never let out. It stinks. Their passing offense is even worse than ours circa 2011. Auburn is still differently abled. Vandy is still Vandy despite my gigantic hard on for James Franklin. Missou rises up and beats the mighty Volunteers. I think that they have 7-5 in them.
PS Speaking of That Time of the Month and football, do you ever wish that Kotex would cut a deal with the NFL to rename it the Kotex Red Zone. Then the first time someone scores the announcers could shout out First Blood!!! Or He really put a period on that drive! Or other great things like that. I am a Raiders fan and I really have to dig deep looking for reasons to turn the TV on on Sundays. But the thought of the field day that Old Man Madden would have had with that and Pat trying to corral him back into the game is sometimes what it takes to watch the Raiders.
So? They still managed to get 555 total yards, and 37pts on Tennessee in Knoxville last year. You honestly believe Tennessee can beat Florida in Gainesville?

As Wesley Snipes always says: The sun even shines on a dog's ass some days.
Or, as often used, but impossible to overuse: You're telling me there's a chance?
Yeah, I think that Butch Jones is a good coach. I think that the Vols have a chance to surprise some people, and conversely I think that Florida was vastly overrated last year (even before the Louisville game). They needed a miracle to beat the University of Louisiana Natchitoches or whatever directional school lost to them. I remember watching that last play and when they sent those blockers out wide my heart sank and I knew the game was lost. But yeah, the Vols were a complete fucking disaster last year. But hey, the Buckeyes were a complete fucking disaster in 2011.
I really don't understand the hype around Jones.
Sure Florida was a little overrated last season, but when it comes to beating Tennessee, Florida seems to have that down to a science.

That is true, the ol' ball coach's favorite line, You can't spell citrus without UT. I always had a soft spot for Fulmer, and I guess that a little bit of nostalgia let me pick the old Volunteers to have one upset. But hey man if you want to exchange some contact information, I'll make an old Randolph and Mortimer Duke bet with you, and send the dollar bill straight up in the mail.
Make it two dollars.

Count me in. This is my first elevenwarriors bet.
Nice breakdown TennBuck +1

It's a toss up with this kid, Urb is gonna have to work his magic. Jones is putting the full court press on Hurd. If he leaves SEC territory it will be amazing
I was thinking like 5-7 record or maybe 4-8.................Gonna be some mighty unhappy folks in Knoxville this year............
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
Jalen Hurd has had us as the clear favorites from the get go and that lead will only expand once he sees the wrekage we put on the big ten and make it to the BCS national champ game. Couple that with another mediocre Tennessee season and its a wrap. Don't get me wrong, Meyer and his charges will still have to put in work but we all know how hard they work at getting their man!
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
