You take this whole recruiting business far too serious. First off, he's a punter, and Urban can find another one of those. Second, he's a high school kid, doing what's right for himself. Let's let it go folks.

There's far too many "taking recruiting too seriously" posts right now. We get it, and we're all Buckeye fans. Recruiting is the lifeblood of the program, so people care. Yes there are idiot fans, no posting repeated messages about taking things too far will not fix the problem. I'm not sure anything is accomplished in this thread, at all.
Well besides you posting like a know-it-all douche bag, I get my point across about taking recruiting too seriously in the vein of getting upset over losing a punter.
Just a life long Buckeye fan wanting to talk to other lifelong Buckeye fans. Our honor defend, we will fight to the end for OOO HIIII OOOOOO!
Okay man, chill. There's no need for personal attacks. Have a nice morning, that's my opinion and it's nothing against you. I'm not sure I saw anyone posting being outrageously upset about Townsend, most people are reasonably enough and realize that he's a punter. There was one inappropriate tweet that called him a "loser" but that was the extent of it. I agree with your points, but the horse is not only dead, but in several little pieces from beating this point.
Q: What did we learn?
A: Namecalling of other posters is not acceptable on 11W.

I totally agree, I'm sick of the moral high horse crap.
I also agree, more sermons than you'd find on any Sunday morning. The amount of posts which are out of line regarding our recruits is such a small percentage. You will have that anywhere at any time when talking about recruiting. I actually saw a poster on a Tennessee board say he hopes Urban has a heart attack and dies. I have found this board better than most but yet there seems to be more stop-that-you-naughty-boy posts here than others as well. I guess you can't get away from either type.
Just to play devil's advocate... What was gained from the endless James Quick, EZE, Mitchell, etc threads. Its a message board and the OP has every right to express his opinion about Townsend as others do predicting recruit_xyz will come to Ohio State.
We could have really used Townsend and he could have probably started in his first season for the Buckeyes so I am not going to say it is no big deal we lost out on him. With that said I don't see any issue with him choosing Florida over us. We can't be upset that another school went after a guy that was verbally commited to us when our coach does the same thing (and rightfully so). I'm sure most people on this site would choose Ohio State if they came through with a last minute scholarship and it was their dream school even though they had been verbally commited to play elsewhere. The fact that all we have to worry about is missing out on a Punter is fantastic. Meyer and this coaching staff did such a great job recruiting this year and put together a really really special class that I feel will show how special they are starting this year.

AND FWIW...just picked this up..no I don't have a link but apparently this came from the orlando sentinel.....
Once he decided, the hard part wasn't quite finished. He had a pair of phone calls to make that he wasn't exactly looking forward to. The first one was to Meyer.
“It went really bad . . . sad and it was tough to tell him I wouldn't be coming up there,” Johnny said. “He wanted to know why I was making that choice, and I just told him I had a change of heart and had to do what was best for me and my family. It was tough calling Coach Meyer. He has been so great all along the whole process.”

Hope the link works.....appears as if Meyer didn't do anything wrong here.
I read this as well good read sounds like a good kid I'm just waiting for all of the posters who tried to bash Urban saying he pulled his sclorship to eat some crow or apologize for making such baseless accusations but I haven't saw that yet doubt I will. It just annoyed me to sit back and watch some poster insist that we pull his sclorship even after the dad came out and said we didn't pull the sclorship I just hope this article knocked them off of their high horse.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
I take recruiting seriously to the point that I taped 8 hours of the four letter network so that I didn't miss anything tOSU related. But I think what we forget is that we are all EXTREMELY BIASED towards the S&G and we can't think of any other team we would want to play for. Most of the "kids" who signed their LOI did not grow up Buckeye fans and it is foreign to us that they think like that as we think that as soon as UfM offers they should sign on the dotted line. I want players that have bought into the team 100% and have no doubt this is where they want to be.

Heh, apparently word-wrap on this website does not work (in Chrome anyway) for a really really really long word. There are 25-30 "D"s past the right edge of the Buckshots section :-P

Yea brah, I didn't mean to type that many 'D's actually. I'm using a mobile device and my finger got stuck on this little button. No soup for me.

Haha, it didn't bother me at all :-)

Let's see if I got this right - our "big miss" was a really good punter that decided to go to Florida and we got stuck with a safety, a receiver, and some guy that flipped from Oregon? Somehow I think I'm going to figure out how to live with this.
I don't think it's so much about the loss of a punter (who by all accounts sounds like he's very good at what he does) but more so that people need to respect his decision. I think on the whole people really have.
You make it sound like great punters are a dime a dozen and unimportant. This isn't the case. Having someone that can pin your opponent back rather than only getting you a 30 yd net difference of field position is a huge help on game day and is frankly something that Ohio State hasn't possessed for the last few years.
So, while Urban can "find another one of those" it will most likely be someone already on the team in another position filling the role. Color me disappointed we didn't get the blue-chip prospect.

All the posts I've read, 95% of them say "best of luck" and things like that. A few stabs here and there, mostly pointed at the Gators in general, not Johnny himself. Am I reading the wrong threads or something? Was there some major Johnny bashing going on that I missed?
That said, I was actually looking forward to gettign this guy. Supposedly he could really boot the ball, and he was fast (can you say fake punts?). Am I crying? - no. I'll definitely take the class we have. However, if we don't end up with a decent punter, there very would could be critical points in some close games next year where we will wish we had a better punter. Just sayin.
@RunEddieRun - read your little signature there - "Just a lifelong Buckeye fan who wants to talk to other lifelong Buckeye fans..." - really? Calling someone a douchebag and using a whole thread to tell people on a Buckeye recruiting forum that they're too serious sounds a little beyond that. We need to fill the offseason examining every detail of every aspect of our beloved Bucks. That's what we do here. There are poeple who take things too far, for sure, but most of us here are fairly level-headed. Good day, and Go Bucks!
After hearing all the facts...I don't have any ill will towards Johnny or OSU about the situation. I do believe the ones you need to go after RunEddieRun are the idiots who tweet these kids and their family members with negativity. Those are the ones you should be writing these diatribe style outbursts and down right negative comments. IMO...you need to abandon this thread you've made...because no offense but you sound like what word you used above...
"There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you."
"I love football. I think it is most wonderful game in world and I despise to lose."

I was upset. Great punter and we don't have one for next year. Why wouldn't you be upset? I am not heart broken over it, but still a little disappointed.
I think OSU will find someone...remember Devin Barclay was a walk on and ended up being a really good place kicker
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
