So what do you guys make out of the fact that ESPN(U?) will be at OSU during NLOI day? Staff do you know of anything we should be looking for on this day that would make it worth while for them to be there.
Don't get me wrong I would love to see Urban talking on ESPN, but I would imagine that there would be something in particular happening other than just watching the fax machine get the commits we already had.
To me it looks like maybe we get Bell, and then maybe someone flips that makes it really exciting. While we have the biggest fan base in the country, most of the class is locked up, and wouldn't be too exciting unless something bigger happens.
Maybe I'm reading way too into this and they are there because Training Days was well received, and they do like Urban, but just wanted your opinions.

My thing is, I don't think they would have ESPN come if they weren't going to get some reactions to the coaching staff/etc. I would bet something big is going down (Bell, Wilson).
I was thinking along the same line as the both of you for a while. And although I would love to believe that it is for something huge, it may just be because we are the largest fan base. Could have planned for some time now. Could be because Urban has a relationship with ESPN.
But for the record I do hope it's for something huge!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!
I agree that the size of the fanbase is usually what leads ESPN to report anything, good or bad, about a school. It is a business. They know how we are going to be tuning in looking for any news all day that day.
100% this, and not just size but I can't think of any fanbase more passionate about recruiting. Ratings drive television decisions. Couple that with the fact that Urban wants to spotlight the program as much as possible. Works for everyone.
I think it has more to do with Urban eFfing Meyer than the OSU fanbase.
Ask yourself: do you think ESPN would be there if Tressel was coach? I doubt it. They (ESPN) have a relationship with Meyer, and I think they like his openness and bluntness(as opposed to JT, and so forth). It makes for good TV.

They're doing it at 13 schools. Prob check back live on scene with each school every 2hrs or so. They've got a lot of time to fill. Prob interview Urban twice, an assistant or two, and maybe a commit during the 12 hours of time.
Glad you pointed this out. They're doing it at multiple schools. They'll have 6 SEC schools covered. I'm hoping it means we are going to land a big recruit, but its purely for ratings. The world of recruiting has blown up so this is just another way for ESPN to get it on the money/ratings.
I need to figure out a way to get it as work. Anyone know if the Watch ESPN App will be carrying it?
I don't get ESPNU on the Watch ESPN app, but you may be able to watch online on their website
Thanks. I will have to take a long lunch!
I hope they just play Coach Coombs speech on repeat.
I'm sure Urban's relationship with ESPN had a lot to do with it but there is definitely more to it than that. He is known to be a great closer on NLOI and his analysis of all recruits would be a big plus for ESPN. As far as I am concerned, I think the biggest reason Urban is doing this is to get more exposure to him and The Ohio State Buckeyes, especially since we weren't in a bowl game. He is always looking at things from that angle. That's why he is the greatest at what he does. He is one step ahead of everyone. That being said, he must feel pretty confident in what is going to transpire on NLOI day, because he doesn't want to be embarassed if say Elliot does not pick the good guys. Even at that, I am sure he will have a predetermined response that will soften the blow. I'm talking about all the recruits in question, not just Elliot. Urban's a very smart dude and he will leave no stone unturned in putting us in the best light possible. I also believe, like most in here, there will be at least one big surprise.
Edit. I didn't know at the time of this post ESPN was also featuring 13 schools so a lot of what I said is moot, but still true
I think it would be cool if Urban drenched Withers with Gatorade if we land Vonn Bell.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
ESPN wants to be there because Urban makes for good TV. The better question, if you're a fan, is why has Urban consented? Urban certainly isn't shy about getting his Buckeyes on TV and seems to believe that the publicity works as advertising for his product, excellent football teams. But would he be willing to risk several hours of shots of a grumpy and disappointed group of OSU coaches? I think he's confident that the Buckeyes get at least one piece of good news on signing day.
Ohio State = ratings
"Because I couldn't go for 3"
I wonder how much of this will be ESPN analysts discussing things and just happening to be located in Columbus vs actual contact with and interviews of our coaching staff
This is just espn jumping on the buckeye train before it hits full steam ahead it's all they even said this during our season when showing a highlight segment of one of our games at the end of the segment one guy goes the buckeyes are going to be really good and one respondes may as well get on board while you can and they all chuckled couple that with Meyer already having a good relationship with espn.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
ESPiN will go where the action is, so with 13 schools covered there will always be some action to talk about. Even of OSU does not get any more new commits, the current ones will be faxing in their signed letters. That will be a lot to celebrate as it is. Bell, Wilson, Clark, etc. would be icing.
I'm excited to see meyer finally talk abt the recruits individually once they sign.
