If the 247 composite recruiting class rankings hold approximately where they are over the next few days:
OSU will have had a better average recruiting ranking (i.e. 247 Composite Rating) over the last 3 years than any SEC team other than Bama. In fact, OSU will have had a better average recruiting ranking over that 3 year period than ANY TEAM IN THE COUNTRY other than Bama, who has had the #1 class recruiting ranking for several years running.
Bama
average #1
OSU vs SEC
OSU - average #5.3 recruiting class ranking
Florida - average #6
Georgia - average #6.6
LSU - average #10.3
Auburn - average #12.3
Other Teams of Interest
FSU - average #6.3
USC - average #6
Texas - average #6.6
Notre Dame - average #8.6
Michigan - average #12.6
What does this mean? Maybe something, maybe nothing. The way I see it, though, is that we're bringing in talent that is (at least according to recruiting experts) capable of competing with -- and perhaps even beating -- the talent on any other team in the country...with the exception of perhaps Bama. But hey, A&M managed it (#18.3), so why can't we? Of course, beyond getting great classes, what makes the elite teams elite is their ability to develop these highly-rated players. I feel that Coach Meyer can do just that.

I can only see that average trending upwards over the next several seasons.
Absolutely! Worth noting is that despite the turmoil surrounding the end of the 2010 season, Coach Tressel still managed to land us the composite 7th ranked recruiting class. Coach Fickell maintained a solid class until Urb took over and managed to grab the 7th ranked class for last year. This year he killed it, at the moment we're #2, likely to stay around there (especially if we land Bell).
I think recruiting classes can be overrated, but at the same time--we should feel good about the fact that our coaches have been bringing in the best talent in the country year after year, infact better than any other team in the country excluding Bama over the last 3 years. And as you said, only gets better from here imo!
Thinking the 2014 class is going to be just plain awesome.
Good stuff another fun fact. OSU has 3 of the top 20 players in TX committed to play for us. Says a lot when there are teams like Texas, A&M, Oklahoma, LSU are much closer options as far as distance
The Ohio State University has always attracted excellent recruiting classes. The mediocre performance in 2011 with these blue chip recruits is why Mr. Fickell lost his job
Yeah, he took one for the team that season though. I'm not sure any options available for 2011 would of done much better. It's funny, though, that there were a lot of people who hated the idea of hiring Meyer and thought Fickell should get the job full time.
That's funny
