not sure, but damn..was there ever so much drama at the end of a recruiting year for the bucks? Very unlikely, but can you imagine losing Johnson and Elliot? Vols always scared me for Johnson, warmer weather, immediate playing time..closer to home..
Perhaps he didn't want the world to attack him for exploring his options, a la Zeke/Dontre? Now if he told the OSU staff otherwise, I'd let him walk. You don't lie to the staff you're committed to.
I completely agree. If he lied to the staff, they need to let him walk and call James Hearns.
Hearns nearly committed to UK. Says they are #1 on his list. They also got McWilson from Youngstown to flip from Nebreska.
I'm pretty sure Hearns can't qualify.
Supposedly hearns decomitted from Florida because of grades and there's a chance he won't be academically eligible so I doubt he could get into ohio state.
Short answer is yes. I posted on here a couple weeks ago that take every bit of recruiting news up until they sign with a grain of salt. This is what recruiting in January is always like.
Is Knoxville really that warm?
No... I'm from east TN and it gets cold there too. Not as cold as cbus, but still gets cold.
I live between the 2 cities, probably about 80 miles closer to Columbus, but I didn't think the weather in Columbus was really much worse than NKY and that Knoxville is really all that much better.

every recruit that comes to OSU might not bleed scarlet and grey, so you can't expect them to behave as 50 year old Archie Griffin would. I know a guy that went to high school with former Buckeye safety Damon Moore. This former classmate tells me that Damon always wore Miami Fla gear to school and wanted to go to Da U, but never got a scholarship offer, so he went to OSU. Damon was a stellar Buckeye player, won a Rose Bowl and represented the Buckeyes in the NFL.
Just because these kids commited to Ohio State before National Signing Day, it's kind of absurd to expect them to behave as if they cherish all things Buckeyes yet. Sure you and I would think the World of having a chance to get a free OSU education and put on the Buckeye uniform, but we aren't walking in these recruits shoes, either. NLOI Day...... I think we are in for a few suprises.
I agree, but my argument against that is that the two big things that have happened recently aren't recruits who got offered by a school that they weren't expecting. I understand that they can change their minds, but the two situations are apples and oranges.

A lot of people thought it was crazy that Trey silent verballed way before the AA games and Urban wanted him to commit there to draw attention. I seriously believe that.
I actually had a thought like this. Not that meyer specifically put him up to it. But that could be the motivation behind johnson taking the visit. Tennessee wanted him to visit. He's a verbal to OSU. And meyer wants bell...bad. maybe trey took it upon himself to get a little extra bonding time in with vonn. And a little extra time to put the hard sell on bell player to player. Stranger things have happened.

Yes, there's no way you'd willingly tell a recruit to take a visit to another school just to recruit someone else. Expecially when Trey has a good relationship with the LB coach at Tenn. Insane. I like the spirit, too, though!
The Vols linebacker coach, John Jancek, was at Georgia for quite some time so its not entirely inconceivable that they are in fact acquaintances and Trey Johnson did go up to "talk shop."
That said, I think its important to remember that tOSU is more than just any one recruit. Especially in a sport like football where so many individuals are needed to be successful. If Trey Johnson, Zeke Elliot, and anyone else want to ply their trade somewhere else, it will be a shame, but it won't stop the momentum being built. If you really are worried, go over to the 2014 offers page and look at all of those kids that the staff has offered and is building relationships with. Thngs are going to be just fine...

recruit men of character please, I can understand why he would lie, but that doesnt make it acceptable. Interesting fact that the majority of employers say the most important trait for an ideal employee is honesty.
The media is not his employer, nor is he obligated to tell them the truth (as an amateur athlete) if it benefits him. I have no problem with it, as long as he didn't lie to the staff. It's perfectly acceptable, he relatively avoided a Twitter fury by misleading the media.
So avoiding a "Twitter fury" > integrity? I disagree and will go so far as to say he owes Alex an apology. He was not obligated to say anything to Alex, but he should not have lied. Period.
agree with you. as I said in my post, I understand why he lied, but it isn't acceptable. Somehow that warranted a DV from urbzrenewal, but I believe there is something to be said about someone who will lie about something as trivial as taking a weekend to look at possible places to further your education.
Honestly people, if the visit to another school isn't accompanied by a public decommit, why does anyone waste time worrying about it?

I read that Johnsons Dad said he only went there b/c he has friends there and wanted to have a fun trip. Said he is still 100% Buckeye as far as he knows. The theory Meyer sent Johnson there to chirp in Bell's ear would be AMAZING and a brilliant move if ya ask me! I love CFB. Go Bucks!

Well one would assume he didn't want people attacking him over Twitter or people freaking out a la Wilson/Zeke. Seems logical to me, secret OV. Time will tell what the OSU staff's reaction is/if they knew.
Yeah, I guess my thought would be that it's not like you can hide an official visit. People are going to find out, and now there is twice the freak out.
Freak out, Twice the Freakout either way people are ridiculous for letting the decisions of 17 year olds about where they play football negatively impact their lives. Every year, the few weeks leading up to NSD are intollerable really, and it gets worse each season. It's fun to follow recruiting but goodness I think some people take it WAY too seriously.

You may wanna checkout the Phoenix chapter that meets in Scottsdale at American Junkie. They are one of the largest OSU Alumni chapters in the nation since a lot of OSU fans relocate and have connections out there. In fact when I went to ASU and was strolling down Mill Ave. a few of there students and I talked and they wanted to know all about Ohio State and our traditions. A lot of them seem to have genuine interest and loved Script Ohio. BTW next time you're in Scottsdale get some ice cream at Sweet Republic, its worth it!

Scout lists any hard commit that takes a visit elsewhere as a soft. Same with Bogard last year.
Had a dream this morning that a recruit named Zach Smith was a hard commit to Nebraska decided at the last minute to sign with Ohio State.
The bad news: I'm actually dreaming about recruits and where they decide to attend school. Sheesh.
