They are making an in-home visit this week...it was in gene's quick bits yesterday
Thanks - interesting for sure. I wondered what would happen once UF made their offer....
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
If this kid truly wants to be a Buckeye, especially given how long this has dragged out, I hope he gets the offer and becomes something special.
Im not absolute but I believe Buckeyes lined up the visit before UF offered.
I don't think anyone ever really said they didn't want Timmons to be a Buckeye. I think most of us realized there were players higher on the Buckeyes board. The staff missed on some of those kids and they're now working down the list. I think Timmons would be great for us but I trust the staff to recruit who they have ranked higher on their board.
TIMMONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well at this point...it's not like the WRs are knocking down the door to come to OSU. I'm not sure why and it's admittedly strange to me bc you'd think they'd really want to after last years wr#s exploding in comparison to 2011. Guess we'll see but if Wilson, the twins, Lauderdale and others are whiffs too....look for Timmons to get an offer and probably commit on NLOID...IMO...if that's enough abbreviations for you;-)

Seems Like the kid who wanted to come here most (Not including the ones known early and signed on) may be the kid we settle on? Dont like the way that sounds because IMO he is just what we needed all along. I do not feel confident it happens, but it could have.
I too find it to be strange that there has been such an issue getting a true WR commitment. My best guess is that the term 'The Percy Harvin Role' may be backfiring a bit?? People know that term refers to the slot/RB/ATH position & that this offense is fairly run heavy. Maybe WR's feel like they would not excel @ OSU...That & some of the targets seem to have had various unspecified issues. Either way, it's strange that getting commitments has been as difficult as it appears to have been to this point. Come signing day though, I believe OSU will have all the tools it needs.

Buckeyes will visit Timmons tomorrow, his coach is expecting an offer
Yeah, you've gotta think, if he doesn't get one on that visit, with Florida offering and with NLOI day so close, he's never getting one.
Timmons would almost certainly commit to OSU. Would the staff allow Timmons to commit without figuring out Wilson, Clark, Carrington, Lauderdale, and the Robinson twins?
Great question. If tOSU has three more spots, I have always figured one wr, one ol, and bell (or another wr). Wilson gets the first opportunity at the wr spot, I think. Carrington and Lauderdale and the Robinson twins seem longer shots at this point. Clark seems slightly ahead of Timmons, but I'm not sure. Not to over-analyze, but does the proliferation of offers indicate that Bell and/or an OL is less likely?
I would imagine the staff may already know something regarding some of the Oregon kids or the Timmons visit probably wouldn't be happening.
I thought that too, but I'm not sure... Wilson and the Robinson twins will be in town this weekend. I believe that's when they'll know exactly where they stand. I'd say this visit is probably just a courtesy to keep him interested in case they don't work out. I can't see them offering Timmons if they have Wilson higher on their board. I really don't know what to make of this visit.
Yeah those are good thoughts as well
I just read Timmons has picked up offers Florida, Missouri, and Cal. Seems the secret that was R.Timmons is starting to get out. That offer list everyone was so concered about early on is starting to look pretty good.
Maybe not so much a secret, more about other teams doing exactly what tOSU has done and is working down their board as the big day appears on the horizon. That's just what I'm guessing anyway.
my fiancee says it is very very very unlikely that timmons mother will approve of him attending florida. and mom is a huge influence in ryans' life. my fiancee says uk is the likely college choice if TOSU doesnt offer ryan. oh btw ryan made the honor roll list for the last grading period.
GO RYAN!!! Hope the kid becomes a Buc!! They should offer, and let the last 3-4 guys sweat it out for 1 WR spot.Don't think we get twins.Believe Wilson stays at Oregon with OC becoming head coach and Clark sounds like he's ready to jump on Clemson.Carrington and Lauderdale are the wild cards. But Timmons deserves his offer!! No WR has wanted it more this year!!
SCOTTC.
Got a chuckle from someone saying Muschamp threw out the offer to Timmons to get Urban away from Clark. Guess it could be a possibility but do not think Urban would make decisions based on who offered who. I think Timmons would be a great Buckeye.
I think Clark is Clemson bound
Well, Urban did react to Saban offerring a kid. Sorry forget the name. And when I heard about the FL offer, that was the first thing that crossed my mind.
You're thinking of Saban's offer to Mitch Trubisky, who never got a committable OSU offer. So I don't think Urban is swayed by these tactics.
Maybe he was a kid they wanted this entire time that was flying under the radar which allowed them manueverability, knowing they would have to make their move. In my way of thinking they will add Timmons plus 1-2 more WRs. OR Maybe I am wrong.
Between Skipper and Hunt, I think we get an OL. No reason to take 3 more WR/ATHs
I think the only guy you save a spot for is Bell, although I think he is going to Alabama, and Wilson. I really don't think those other cats get that same distinction.
I think if Timmons does get the offer then you will know where the staff stands with Wilson, Clark, Robinsons, etc. They might pick up Lauderdale or Carrington but it would be a great pull with such little time left.
Its never over till the fat lady sings.

I'm actually thinking waycracken gets his wish here...
I've seen Timmons highlights and he looks decent, but it's hard to tell how good he is because the competition he's playing against looks suspect. There's no since in wasting a scholly on another slot receiver...there are other receivers the Buckeyes are after that seem more explosive...the Buckeyes can do better!
If the staff offers Timmons now with Wilson looking more and more like a real possibility I'll be stupified. What is the point of bringing in four slot/pivot players in the same class with Jalin, Wilson, Timmons and Jacobs?
With the... uhm.... turnover of the WR board over the last couple of weeks an offer could make sense, but not with Wilson becoming more and more of a possibility and being looked at as the exact same style player Timmons would be.
I'm with you Elastik; no more slot/hybrid guys. At this juncture in time we need "pure" WRs. I definitely would not offer Timmons until at least this weekend plays out. And even if we 'strike out', I would still proceed with trepidation concerning Timmons.

The thing is that in Meyer's offense you cannot have too many playmakers. And we have to remember at Florida at one time he had all of harvin, demps, Rainey, moody, Thompson, Brandon James all at the skill positions. None of them are over 6 ft tall. He can simply plug any of the playmakers into outside receiver roles. I can definitely see our offense becoming similar to theirs was in a few years in the sense of having
rb-zeke
wr- Wilson, Jacobs, and timmons
and having Marshall lineup all over the field because be is so versatile. I can also see Wilson and Timmons get carries out of the backfield. I think Jacobs stays on the outside because he has tremendously long strides. Having "true wrs" is overrated in Urban's offense.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog
A playmaker is going to make plays no matter where they line up on the field or how big they are.
I agree that Meyer's offense is different and that you can't have too many playmakers, but he always had the likes of Riley Cooper, Andre Caldwell, Dallas Baker, and Chad Jackson. I would like as many 'playmakers' as we can get, but, 1) we have a finite # of scholarships left, and 2) this is a 3-star kid we are talking about.
“You have to make decisions, ... I've never pretended that every decision I've made was right. And I've been reminded of that.”

If I remember correctly Roby and Hankins were 3 star guys in high school... Would you not have offered them?
Of course, but you play the odds.

I think the wide receivers will line up wanting to come here after they see the improvement Braxton shows in the passing game this year. I think the staff needs to snag a number of playmakers this year even if they are not "traditional". Whitfield will make a big impact on Braxton's game IMO.
I can't see the reason for an in-home visit if they aren't going to offer him. It would be pretty crappy for them to visit and tell him if Wilson doesn't commit he has an offer. Gotta think the offer is coming.
The staff is not going to waste schollies and offer people that aren't worth a scholarship. PERIOD. They are going to use schollies on the best talent available to them or bank them for the extremely talented 2014 class. Also, Florida offering Timmons would do nothing to sway the minds of Urban and company. They are going to offer Timmons becaus Gibson didn't work out, Quick went to UofL and Corn Elder wasn't the right fit for some reason. Timmons was the guy that they staff wanted IF all those guys weren't going to join up with the good guys, and all those guys didn't.
I really don't think the staff struggled to find wideouts who wanted to come here either. There were 3 true wide receivers in this class who were willing to jump on at different points in time but other things popped up. Quick was a special circumstance. He was from Louisville and would be tough to pull him over anyway. How often does a little football program like that retain their coach and have a world class QB??? Not often. If Urban didn't care about grades or character Foster and Gibson would of been in this class too. So, it's not really true that the staff struggled with traditional WR's. Just a weird set of circumstances and bad luck reared their heads this recruiting season.
True dat Albert. It's also funny how the naysayers dont want to count Jalin Marshall because he palyed QB, when everyone knows he is a slot/ WR at tOSU & a 5 star. sounds like a pretty good get to me.
I agree with 95% of this BT, but I do think they are not having the easiest time getting the true WRs that they want. Every other position has been filled & filled nicely. There are also a load of guys who can catch the ball on board already (I'd feel ok if there were no more WRs to sign at all as there are literally 5-6 guys in this class who could play WR in some capacity), but there's not yet been a prototypical WR. I agree that there have been various issues or circumstances with a few of them, but there have also been a few guys targeted who seem to just be interested in playing elsewhere.
For me, if Timmons is offered & becomes a Buckeye, I will be glad it happened. While I do agree that the Florida offer doesn't have much to do with an OSU offer (OSU offering after missing on the players you mentioned not because UF offered), I think that a school like UF offering Timmons does, to an extent, force the staff to decide whether to do it now or never...They may have always thought they could fall back on him, and waited almost until NLOID, but now that some bigger schools are taking notice, they may be protecting what they saw as a sure thing before. Just my opinions - could be wrong...
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
I think it may be a perception thing. Jalin was the second commit in this class(almost a full year ago). Rivals has him as the #2 athlete (35th overall). Just barely missed a fifth star. This kid is a stud and will contribute right away. I think anything else is just icing.
We still have Thomas, Smith, Spencer, and Brown who can fill those true WR roles. It's ok if we miss on those guys this year. If we miss on them next year them there's a problem.
That's pretty much how I'm looking at it. Then there's 2012 class that we got some WRs as well. Like you said, next year would be a whole other story.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
My intial thought was he would be another "Verlon Reed" and vanish into the mists in the coming years. I see our current recievers as multi faceted and talented, along with whomever UFM pulls in next recruiting class(es).
~Because we couldn't go for three~
I don't know for sure, so don't crucify me for saying this...but I doubt that Verlon Reed put up numbers anywhere near that of Timmons. I'm just saying that his stats are sick.
He also went to Marion Franklin and undoubtedly played much tougher competition than Timmons has
You have a point.
My only worry about Timmons ending up a buckeye is how many more Timmons threads I am going to have to see on here over the next 4 years.
My theory is that they slow down if/when he commits, like we saw with Mike Mitchell/James Quick/Ethan Pocic/etc. threads.
If he turns out to be a stud you could see a thread about him every Saturday of the football season.
Nothing would make me happier than to see that. I would just like to hear less until then.
I'm in for Timmons. I hope they make it happen. He wants to be here and I think he will rise to the occasion. I may be wrong, but to be honest nobody here has a crystal ball on how these kids will develop. He's a playmaker plain and simple.
How Firm Thy Friendship....
To everyone saying that we need a "true" receiver... Why not Jalin Marshall? He wasn't a slot guy in the UA game, he played on the outside, and looked great. And you can still use him in space, on outside screens, slants, hitches, etc., plus he looked great on deep routes. I think that he'll be great on the outside, with Dontre Wilson being much better in the slot, or Timmons for that matter.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Urban recruited him to play the hybrid position.
In this offense. It is the hybrid/slot type of backs that will open things up for the WRs down field. The QB is another weapon to run but if all you have is a RB and a running QB you will never get WRs open down field in the spread. Coach knows what he is doing and knows how important playmakers are in this offense.
Think in BB terms. How important are the 4-5 players to a team that likes to shoot the 3? If you have to cover the entire field your options soar.
I think the true receiver thing is blown out of proption. Get the best talent out there period. There are several guys in this class that could go out wide that are considered "athletes." The staff isn't offering anyone they don't think deserves a spot.
There's something to giving a guy an offer who has always wanted to be a Buckeye. Timmons competition isn't great, but neither is Elliot's. Timmons has elite speed. He really wants to be a Buckeye. He's a hard worker on and off the field. He could be that next 3 star guy who becomes an amazing Buckeye. Go get him.
I agree with most of what you said but you can't compare Zeke with Timmons because Zeke has proven that he can play with the best going to the camps over the summer and performing with the best Timmons not so much.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
I have a friend who is a UK fanatic-and not just of basketball- says that UK boards are saying that UK is starting to put pressure on Timmons to make his decision-fans' feathers are ruffled that he might possibly be waiting for an OSU offer. They have some other WRs coming in to check out. He also said that no one is hearing anything about Gibson. Gibson most recently tweeted that UK is in his top 3.
Your friend must be right. Lexington News Sports headlines this morning "JOKER AND TIMMONS DO NOT DESERVE THE IRE OF UK FANS". It went on to talk about the Internet boards demanding Timmons to commit to UK and for Joker to not recruit Timmons. It was headline news last night also. All this with a UK BB game tonite.
time to get timmons on board. he has speed, good hands, good grades, good attitude, the kid can flat out play.
Plus if he has the attitude that he can play with anyone, and comes in looking to prove that he belongs, man, that drive could take him a long way. Isn't this the kind of mindset that Urban looks for?
Plus he has character Something I read on a UK site about him that a father posted is that he has been helping to take care of a handicapped friend at his school. He has done this before, during and to this day. It will be interesting from here on out. I agree with the posts above talking about his drive and want to.
Ya'll hear about the conspiracy going on with Gibson? Heard Urban told Gibson to put UK in his top 3 and take tOSU out so that'll give UK something to look at and buy tOSU time with Timmons.
jk
I am intrigued with Carrington. We don't seem to have that "throw it up there" WR and he fits the mold. I think we end with:
Skipper/Hunt
Timmons
Carrington
Wilson/Bell
Also, arent the Robinson twins getting here on Wednesday?
If Michael Thomas can make big strides in the offseason and explode on the scene in 2013, that will take a lot of pressure off the receiving corps. Thomas is probably the closest thing the Buckeyes have to a tallish outside guy (he's 6'2) who can go up and get the ball, although 6'0 Devin Smith obviously has a nice vertical.
Get those guys going, and I don't see any problems with having a bit of a logjam on the inside - with Philly Brown playing inside or out, along with newcomers Marshall and Jacobs, and now possibly Timmons, with G. Conley maybe joining the offensive mix as well. You never know which of these guys might become true playmakers on Saturday, so it helps to improve the odds.
The problem, though, goes back to having to rely on only 1-2 outside guys to step up - there, the odds are not so favorable. We'll have to cross our fingers on Thomas and Smith . . .
Another issue/concern, which other commenters have alluded to: regardless of whether the Buckeyes can develop a true outside WR threat, the 2013 offense is going to be a vicious machine - putting up video game-like numbers. That's not the problem. They might be a victim of their own successes, though, in that the offense will probably be unstoppable running 65-percent of the time, with read options, maybe the diamond packages thrown in, etc., with some very-difficult-to-defend play action passes and other contraints built-off a nasty run game. It's not critical that they find a rangy outside WR for 2013, anyway - although it would be a very nice luxury to have - and except that they'll need one in the future (e.g., when XBrax 360 is no longer at QB).
I think the diamond formation could be the best set in our offense next year. It's going to be tough to defend when you can put Braxton, Hyde, Hall, and Marshall/Zeke on the field at the same time.
I agree. And, in the passing game, given the pressure the Buckeyes' run game will apply on defenses, there will be more weapons than any defense currently on the 2013 schedule can handle, anyway - Philly, D. Smith, Marshall, J. Hall, EE, Heuerman/Vannett, etc.
What time is Ohio State visiting Timmons? I hope he walks away with an offer and commits, because we need playmakers, and that's what he is.
I'm not sure if it's an in-home or if they're visiting him at school. Would be a good question for Cracken or Gene to answer since they normally know what is going on.
Hey 125. What do you know about Jason Hychte? I believe he is from your school?
Jaleel Hytchye, yeah he is from LaSalle High School. They are in the GCL, but not from my school. He was a pretty good get for UK.
What time is the visit!?!?!?!? Is it today?!?!?!? When will we find out!?!?!?!? Is there an offer?!?!?!?!?!
Not sure why this got downvoted....this is exactly what I've been wondering all day.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Some of this down voting is just plain immature. ^^^^
QuadrupleZ
I've been watching for news on this all day!! I don't have any fingernails left..
TRB really likes the development ont his.
If it hasn't been mentioned already, Oregon's RB coach is staying with UO. That is pretty detrimental to Dontre Wilson.
Help is on the way.
Bill Kurelic is reporting that OSU met with Ryan Timmons and the meeting lasted less than 20 minutes... Anybody got the scoop on what went down?
His tweet said it ended less than 20 minutes ago...not that it lasted 20 minutes....
.Bill Kurelic@Bill_Kurelic
Ryan Timmons meets with Ohio State - meeting ended less than 20 minutes ago - latest offer status in thread I posted.
EDIT: premature ejaculation of disappoinment over a non-busted meetup. Disregard.
Ohio State is fine with or without..
For clarification: I was disappointed that the meeting only lasted 20mins...till I reread the post and saw that it "ended 20 mins ago". I therefore edited my post because I was no longer disappointed. I was, in fact, encouraged. I like Timmons. I want him at OSU. No idea about the downvotes.
So basically what your sayin is ______________...
I'm guessing no news by now means no offer. Probably we'll know once this weekend's visit with Dontre is over.
"The time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect." - Woody Hayes
I think with the twins staying at Oregon and the coaching staff at Oregon possibly offering Wilson's friends to keep him, I don't think he's coming to OSU. Just my opinion.
Don't confuse the twins not visiting with them being totally committed to Oregon. There are some experts that think there's a decent chance that they end up at USC
Either way they're not coming to OSU... We are 15 days away from NSD and they aren't visiting. They won't be in this class. I read about them being interested in USC, but I was commenting on the fact that they aren't visiting OSU and won't be members of this class.
For the record... I'm not sure why any recruit would want to go to USC at this point. Lane Kiffin has lost control of that program and if he doesn't win 10 games and a bowl next year he won't be coaching there anymore.
Yeah but it's USC, so they're one firing away from a new coach and a brighter future. The sanctions are further in the past every day, and I'd say that's more attractive than Oregon, where who knows what the trouble might be with the NCAA, or the results of Kelly's absence.
With the possibilities of adding Wilson Carringtong Clark and the twins you have to wonder why they even visited him again today. My guess is they may have an agreement for him not to commit and laying out the carrot in case. Only thing though a few offers like Priester is not as good as Timmons. Im not so sure any of them are (not intended to undermine anyones opinion) but Ill leave that eval to the pros.
If he didnt get an offer I think Timmons should move on and maybe he already has.
As i posted in the Wilson twins thread, they are not visiting now.
Yeah I think I mis read. Thanks
er.. Robinson twins. Wouldn't allow me to edit!
Marc Givler from Rivals reported the twins won't be visiting so I don't see them happening. I also saw another tweet that said Clark was deciding between UF and OSU. Wasn't sure which visit he would take. To me that leaves Wilson or Timmons. If Oregon offers Wilson's friends like it has been reported I don't see him flipping. I think that leaves Timmons.
I hope if Timmons makes it as a Buckeye recruit he is fully aware of all the others targeted ahead of him. I hope he knows of the doubters for one reason or another. I know of his confidence and abilities.
This may sound quite mad but I see him as a Buckeye and with the spirit of the Childs Story.
" The Little Engine That Could"
I sort of just wish he'd commit to Florida or something, just for his own pride. Our staff is basically stringing him along, and though you and I disagree on the subjective talent argument, I do find it a bit sad to watch.
Way has already reported that his mom wouldn't allow him to go to UF. If he doesn't end up a Buckeye he will go to UK.
That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but to each their own I suppose. Either way, if I'm this kid, I've already moved on from OSU. You can only take so much of being dragged along while everyone else gets an offer.
Yeah it doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. Florida is a lot better of a school than Kentucky, and obviously the program is better than UK. A bad year at Florida is better than the good years at UK.
Right, I know these kids don't always care a whole lot about the education, but this one isn't close.
Stop it, he can't move on! It'll ruin the story of THE LITTLE BUCKEYE THAT COULD! Fate is going to win out and Timmons is going to write his story! Just you watch!
Roll little Buckeye, roll!!!! Find that fertile and well watered soil, roll to it and grow into a Buckeye tree!!!! Do it for us all little Buckeye Timmons!!!!!! We're here for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was Buckeyestu that said that about his mother. I would say he wants to stay close to home because for him when we say he wants to stay close for his family we are talking of his church family as well.
I don't know that he's being strung along. If the staff has been honest with him and he is well aware of his position and chance to become a Buckeye, well then so be it. If it's his dream school, and they have been totally honest with him about his chances and he's willing to wait it out good for him if he gets that offer.
By that logic, OSU should withdraw its offers from any top players who haven't yet verballed. They're just stringing along the Buckeyes. For his own pride, Urban should scorn anyone who waits til NSD to commit.
Sounds crazy to me, and I'm not sure why that line of thought makes sense from a player's (but not a school's) perspective.
If the kid wants to go to OSU more than any other school, and the staff told him he has a small but significant chance of getting an offer by NSD, and he's not endangering his shot at a scholly elsewhere, then he'd be a fool to let pride kill his chance of realizing a dream.
I clicked on it... I regretted it immediately...
Because in this case, it's the college staff that has all the power. I'm not trying to make a normative statement or say anything profound, I'm just saying that in his position, I'd have moved past it by this point.
I don't get the difference between these two things:
- OSU waits til last day to see if Vonn Bell commits.
- Timmons waits til last day to see if OSU offers.
Practically every major program offered Bell. He has "all the power." So what? I don't think Meyer or Saban would be wise to cut Bell loose today just because he's still undecided.
I clicked on it... I regretted it immediately...
I'll say it again, there was no normative obligation presented by my putting myself in his shoes. That said, you're arguing apples and oranges. It's not as if Vonn Bell said "I like OSU, but I'm only going there if 20 other schools fill up and it's all that's left". The staff basically gives Timmons the weekly obligation call where they tell him they like him as a player, and that he might get an offer soon, and then they continually offer other players ahead of him. There's no parallel there.
A reliable source said Hinton was here today for visit, Herman just flew in from California to meet with Timmons and attend a Franklin County basketball game together.
Fingers crossed for an offer.
And the reliable source is....?
I'm not sure if they can do anything other than have a meeting at Ryan's high school, without calling it (I assume) an in-home visit? I'm not clear on the rules, but I'm fairly sure you can't just come hang out with recruits wherever. I think you can watch them compete, meet briefly, visit them at their homes a few times, and that's it.
I'm going on the record as saying I hope he is offered. That being said who else here wants to see him in scarlet and gray?
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
Nonesense, since he helps handicapped kids and goes to church WE ALL WANT HIM OFFERED. Because, you know, there aren't about 5 billion good church going kids in the world that don't have OSU offers.
And since it is his DREAM school he deserves it (I mean don't we all deserve our dreams coming true! Especially if we go to chruch!)
I like him because at FNL he was the fastest player on the field.
As well as the fastest kid in Kentucky (100 meter) & then there's the ridiculous game stats. I've heard the 'level of competition' arguments, and maybe there's some validity to it, I'm not a coach or scout - but I'm hoping they find him to be worth the risk, as I have been sold on him over the past year as being a hell of a good football player.

Valid points Elastic. I knew you would come around. Throw in a 4.35 40 and 83 TDs (2 years)with the highest YPC average in the nation 2 years in a row and you might help us separate his abilities from those among us that dream big.
Do me a favor and show me you have it and sign your name to that down vote your about to give me. In return Ill up vote you
Ease up there cowboy, Elastik can't even vote yet.
No idea I will try editing, but pretty synical none the less. He show think about journalism.
I have no idea what you're saying
I thought you were saying to young to vote.
I don't anticipate ever gaining the ability to vote, so you can settle down there. Nor would I have any reason to downvote anything you have written, your posts have a special ability to stand as perfect of evidence of exactly what they are and no votes up or down can change that.
That said, athletically the kid is so far back in the line his HS coach has to keep crowing about "AN OFFER IS GOING TO COME THIS TIME, REALLY!!!" every time OSU and Timmons run into each other just to save face. The kid might develop into a very good player, but the staff isn't exactly crazy about him. Of course if that staff doesn't seem inclined to have him as anything beyond Emergency Contingency Plan 17C I'm pretty damn MEH on the entire concept of him as a prospect.
But, you really did warm my heart with the handicapped kid story. So prospect status aside, screw it, offer the kid RIGHT NOW URBAN! NOW!
Although you & I don't see this the same way, I had to go ahead & upvote "Emergency Contingency Plan 17C" because....that shit was funny & I'm still laughing right now.

Reading through some of these coments I'm not sure if some of you have seen any of this kids film. I understand the argument about his oposition, but his vision, speed, decision making, and pure will to reach the endzone stands on it's own.

You have a good point, but it's the same point that's being made over and over. People understand the facts of both sides, sometimes we just have to agree to disagree.
Actually I like him because he looks like a badass running around with a football. This is sports, they all can't be choirboys, look at LT, or hell, Marv Alberts. Just because this kid happens to be, doesn't mean that I think he deserves it because of his personality. I hope we offered the kid today. And then I hope we offer Marv to be the radio announcer for basketball games.
We are an anti-Timmons from ELASTIK! What a surprise ... I may faint... oh wai-
Im pretty sure Herman was in Fla this morning. Orange County at 6:15am.
Last time I saw this reliable source was during a football game the night before the Buckeyes traveled to Wisconsin. You're reliable source makes things up.
Coach Tracy
Best source, other than Timmons, or tOSU coaches, that I can think of.
One of the staff members on bucknuts said that Herman was supposed to be there with Hinton to meet with Timmons and his coach after school today- Herman was delayed from wherever he was coming in from. Hinton met with Timmons and coach, no offer, but he and Herman were going to go to Timmons' basketball game tonight. Why have 2 coaches go to see a kid to tell him in person "sorry, but we need to continue to screw with your head for a little while longer while we discover/offer yet more WRs...but we luvvv you, hang on"? And wait to see his basketball game if they don't have plans for him? Fish or cut bait boys.
My UK friend is saying that UK fans are now claiming that Joker offered Timmons to mess up UK who fired him (Joker), and his boss, Muschamp did it to mess with Urban. Come on, this kid doesn't deserve that crap. And don't tell me it's a business, blah, blah, blah, he is a 17-18 year old kid.
I definitely do not buy that coaches make the offers to screw with other coaches. Florida wouldn't make an offer to a kid they had no intention of taking on their roster. Timmons knows what his situation is with Ohio State. If he weren't willing to hang on for that coveted offer he would of mailed in it long ago and gave up the dream. Waiting this thing out has been better for Timmons. He now holds offers from Florida, Mizzou, and Cal. That is a more impressive list than he had a month ago had he comitted to UK.
The staff is telling him there is a chance he may still get in this class. If it's the school he's always wanted to go with, there's no harm in him waiting this thing out. He's a smart kid, and it sounds like his family is involved in his recruitment as well. If there were any point that Ohio State was dicking this kid around, do you think the intelligent kid and adults surrounding him would of pulled the plug long ago?
Why do you believe your third hand information from sources that are unreliable?
Here is the situation with Urbz and staff...
What is their record since starting at tOSU? What reliable information do we have that they are being unfair to recruits? (Answer Key: 12-0, None) At this point there is no reason for anybody to question what they are doing.
Folks,
i live in central KY and have seen this kid play. He is a great player against very inferior talent. we are talking KY football where they had a whopping 12 kids in the entire state receive a D1 scholarship from a quality school. 12 thats right, in the state. He is not a quality D1 talent. He might play in a mid major or UK which might be worse than a mid major. He gotten swallowed up in the state all star game this year when the "top" talent assembled. I hope OSU does not offer him and focuses on other talent elsewhere. Florida can have him remember Joker Philips is pushing for him and what a job he did at UK. Bottom line is OSU needs to focus their efforts on better talent available.
Where have you been for the past 6 months
He has an opinion. If he has seen a game maybe he can share which one? If he knows so much about the all star game that produced 140 yds (Timmons had 45 on 6 touches)from the losing team and 150 by the winning team. The losing team missed 3 close FG on a weekend where it rained 5 inches. Only TD was a flea flicker. Not Hardly a game to be judged by. Similarly Im a big Zeke fan what was his UA result. Or Jalin or Gibson. We know what all of them can do.
Well Marshall played wellin the UA game, and Zeke got one touch for 19 yards, so I'll take that production on a stage much larger and more competitive than an all-star game in a state with very weak football.
I saw him score 6 TDs against Woodford county in a game they won 76-55. If you want to call it a game. The teams they played wouldn't be competitive playing a division 6 school in Ohio. They averaged near 60 pts a game playing terrible teams. That's a fact. The all star game I did not witness but was informed by another high school coach.
Yes in that game he only got the ball 10 times. The year before he only got the ball 9 times and score 7 TDs and had 320 yds in 1/2 game. A game in which Mike Fields stated in his 30 years of being a Sports Writer in Lexington that was the best performance he has ever seen.
It hurts for Woodford County 2X because Timmons coach is Woodford Countys ex Coach.
To anyone who constantly bags on the level of competition he plays against, I would say look at what Shaun Alexander did against weak KY competition week in and week out, and then look what he did in college and the NFL. He put up ridiculous numbers every week against weak KY high school competition.
I also would tell you to look at what Tim Couch did against KY highschool competition and then see what he did in college to earn a number 1 overall pick in the NFL draft. There are recruiting experts who said he was the best high school QB recruit ever. He played crappy KY competition too.
Here is a great reference for you to tell the whole story. In fact Kentucky is more on the average side with 19 D1 recruits out of 13,000 players. Missouri for your comparison had 18 D1 players with 19,000 participants.
Florida Ohio Texas are the exceptions. Kentucky is on the average side Ranks 26th ahead of both Michigan and Indiana and just behind Tennessee. Ohio ranks 9th.

How Firm Thy Friendship....
Trying to figure out why there is soooo much negative Timmons talk. Nobody knows 100% how this kid will do. For all we know, if he does come to OSU, he will have a better career than Dorian Bell, Albert Dukes or Louis Irrizary. Didn't realize there was an 11W Dry Goods Prize for the poster that predicted the future of a high school kid from Kentucky.
And for the fact that he plays against Kentucky competition, so what? The person makes the player, the competition does not.
@TheShoeAtOSU: RT @KySportsRadio this OSU coach won't even let poor Ryan Timmons enjoy the Franklin/Scott bball game at Scott Cty http://t.co/sbMsPiSD
My guess would be that there is so much negative talk because any time there are countless threads about a non-top 100 recruit, who has not been offered a scholarship by most of the major FBS programs, that recruit will become polarizing. There will be some who act like he is a football god, others who think he is no good, and then everyone else who just wants NSD to get here ASAP so they can stop seeing a new thread about the kid every other day.
Offer him!!
How Firm Thy Friendship....
I've got to say... If this kid becomes a Buckeye, I'm getting his jersey. I've developed an admiration for his patience with the OSU staff. He could've committed to a school already but continues to hold out for that coveted OSU offer. For an 18 year old kid that is pretty impressive. If he doesn't end up at OSU I'm going to follow his career anyway. Very impressed with the character of this kid.
I wonder how soon it will take for us to hear about his visit???!!!
How Firm Thy Friendship....
The one valid criticism is to question his ability based on not having that offer yet. That's the one thing we can say, other than that why question competition. Look what Elliot did this season against bad Missouri high school football. Apple plays in New Jersey, they don't even care about football up there. If you question Timmons numbers against bad competition you have to question Elliot and Apple too.
New Jersey has actually been packed full of crazy talent for a while now.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
I know good recruits come out of there, but I've never heard of New Jersey being a high school football powerhouse state mentioned in the same breath as Florida, Texas, Ohio, and Georgia.
It's not but it's way better than Kentucky, across the board.
Probably, but Missouri isn't and no one questions Elliot's stats.
That's because Elliott came out to camp and outperformed Ty Isaac.
Here's why BIG name WR's hesitating IMHO:
Several receivers in the system.
Couple others left because they couldn't find playing time.
Honestly, Braxton improved, but still can't throw the football well. Just watched last years highlights and he is a runner not a thrower.
Lastly, couple of play makers already inked.
WE WILL BE FINE !
We want kids that want to be BUCKEYES and will work very hard to be the best they can be.
Do the names Heartline & Sanzenbacher ring a bell?
I don't really believe they have been hesitant. If Ohio State were willing to take the risk or extend offers Foster and Gibson would be in this class. Quick had a unique situation and it was going to be tough pulling him out of Louisville. The other guys were people comitted somewhere else or that weren't even on Ohio State's radar early on. Plans C,D, and E if you will .
They did visit like you know at a Basketball game being played away @ Scott County and I heard Scott County's student section got a little obnoxious chanting UK cheers etc. i would think thats not the first time going into an out of state gymnasium they have heard this. SC usually gets 4K in attendance each BB game.
I actually think that's kind of funny that they were chanting UK cheers.
Wow on that attendance!
Their school has reaped the benefits of Toyota investing a lot of money in their community. There's a huge Toyota plant in Georgetown and they're gym is called Toyota Arena I believe . At one point in time it was anyway. In the last 15 years or so, they have built a really nice basketball program there.
Well I think my addictiveness to this has brought me to a conclusion that I need to separate myself from this texting about things I have absolutely no idea about. I wish each and everyone of you well and I look forward to NLOI day hoping only that our OSU with or without Timmons finishes strong and maybe the #1 or #2 rated class. Go Buckeyes.
If this were visa-versa we'd call Timmons out for creating drama ;) But when it is our staff... ;)
If we had more scholarships to offer this wouldn't be such an issue so it's a bit hard to call out the staff for being extremely careful. It does seem though as if they are interested in the kid as a back up plan and if they have explained that to him that there's nothing wrong with it. If they have misled him then that's another story. Like Waycracken said - I will wait for Signing Day and see how it plays out for all of the recruits!
Waycraken Syndrome has spread at a catastrophic rate.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
"Waycracken Syndrome" - Love it!!!
Having said that, here's what I'm hoping for:
1. Waycracken Syndrome enters the 11W lexicon.
2. Timmons gets to become a Buckeye.
3. Waycracken, who I like & who's opinion I respect takes the "Waycracken Syndrome" in good 11W spirit & enjoys it!

I don't know if I buy the whole "he played against lesser talent" point. The same thing was said about Terelle Pryor because he didn't play at the highest division in Pennsylvania. What I do believe is that for some reason Timmons isn't as high on the list as some of the other recruits out there. I'm not sure of the reason, but thats just the way it is. TP was the consensus best player in the country even though he didn't play D1 in high school.
We all heard Coach Coombs. Coach Meyer wants the 25 best players in the country. With that said, speed is speed, and Timmons has speed. I love the fact that he wants to be a Buckeye, and if the staff gives him and offer, I personally will be thrilled. If not...I'm going to be forced to trust the best coaching staff in the country.
Per ESPN OSU has offered R.Timmons.
Just saw this tweet as well...
You guys are fast!
finally!!!

I wonder if the offer will lead to a quick commitment or if he will stretch this out a bit and weigh his options?
Everything I've heard leads me to believe we"ll be seeing a grey box sooner than later. If he waits he might be left out. Don't think this will drag out too long unless he already decided to go somewhere else, but seems like this is "The ONE" offer he's been waiting for
Well with the other prospects in play I think he better get with it.
I dont always root for college athletics, but when i do (which is most of the time) I choose THE Ohio State Buckeyes.
Eat it Waycracken! Guess I'm 1 for 2.
All the information I've ever posted (including Urban attending a game) came from Franklin County coaches.
Yes you did have it right!!! Sorry about the skepticism...
Check out the "Timmons just offered" thread... Alex said he's not sure if it's a committable offer or not.
"Waycracken Syndrome" - Love it!!!

VET, I find it humorous and definately in good spirit. I bring some of this upon myself. (I guess)
Thanks Way
DBEV - What's this talk from a UK recruiting twitter account saying OSU offered Timmons a greyshirt offer? Any truth to that? They are the only place reporting it supposedly.
Timmons said that his offer was not a gray shirt offer (on twitter). Someone followed up with "is your offer committable?" He didn't respond, or at least I haven't seen a response.
looks like waycracken and dbev will be celebrating tonight.
Timmons HS coach says "No".
Said it was not conditional. Just looked at the twitter and only grey shirt was asked about. It was FOX Scout Brian Eldridge that started the grey shirt rumor very early this am. Scout is terrible in Ky.
From what I have read the scholarship is committable unless his coach has it wrong. He is on news tonite talking about Ryans recruitment. Timmons on tomorrow nights news. As long as he has waited time is now on his side. Him announcing Feb 5 works for everyone I believe.
ESPN Reported Timmons will take his last Official visit to FL. We were probably too late on this one. Hopefully he'll at least drive up for an unofficial.
Seems like same situation as Clark, why OV a school you have seen numerous times on unofficial visits.
He's been to Ohio State a bunch of times. I think taking that official to Florida is his only chance to see Florida. He's doing it on their dime. Columbus is only about a 3- 3 1/2 hour drive for Timmons. I wouldn't look too much into him taking his official in Florida, I just see it as his opportunity to actually see the campus.
That's it exactly. Why waste the last official on a place close by you can drive to.
I agree Otrain, hopefully it's to have a vacation and then come back and announce on NSD that he will join the good guys.
