Got caught with alcohol. Nothing against the kid, but I thought this line was pretty hilarious (from this article):
An officer spotted Mizzell, 19, standing in the middle of the street trying to kick a moving vehicle, Lt. Ronnie Roberts said, before determining Mizzell had been drinking.
We all have those nights, I guess, just strange for it to happen during an OV. Also, kind of strange that he's 19, right?
Oh, and hopefully this doesn't spawn a million threads here about how Urban should take a chance on him, although I think we have better judgment than that.

LETS GET WASTED!
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
He should have stuck with getting Chocolate wasted ;-)
This may just be a reason why Urban and Co. passed on him. Either way...it's all good....OSU doesn't need that kind of attention.

So, the OV went well?
Showing off for his new friends
With a name like SMOKE I would expect quite a few arrests for posession in his future!
"Because I couldn't go for 3"
So glad we have Ezekiel Elliott!
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
UVA is quite the party school it seems.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
I can't begin with all the alcohol-related deaths that happened at UVA in the past 5 years...

Frankly I am a bit surprised this doesn't happen more often.
Ok that line was pretty damn funny
Hahaha

This is his host for the visit...
Actually, it was Slurms McKenzie, the greatest partier of them all.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.

Guy is a legit recruit, a steal for UVA. I'm very curious to see what they do
Here's a question - if you were the coach of another school (besides UVa) and recruited this kid and offered him, do you withdraw your offer because of this incident at UVa?
maybe instead of Smoke it can be Drink Mizzell..................I would withdraw myrercruitment of him.yes he's 19 and yes 19 year olds do stupid stuff, but this was on a recruiting trip where certain things are expected or should be expected of you.....getting drunk shows to me a certain level of selfishness that just doesn't coincide well with the word team. If he's willing to do this now whats to say hes going to follow whats expected of him out on the field? Just my 2 cents
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
Drink a litte drink, Smoke a little smoke.
So should he have not had a drink while everyone else was or just had less?
I've been on OV's and not drinking is not really an option if you go out at night.
I'd have to be drunk to visit Virginia as well
Once you go south of Manassas, you officially enter Dixie.

Correction: I was in Virginia for thirty straight days one year, this thread is about former girlfriends, right?
MY BUTT'S SO BIG, I SPLIT MY PJ BOTTOMS
Drinking on your official is pretty par for the course. I drank on every OV I took. The guys always take you out at night. The host players should have taken better care of him, though.
Imagine the jokes that would ensue if he was caught with reefer?
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Someone will lose her / his job over this...
You know, cause there's no Smoke without a fire...
I'm thinking the hosting player might get a little talking to from Coach.
Interesting how this is kill the recruit... Not the idiotic fools who #1: broke the law and #2: didn't cover butts and keep kid out of trouble. As a parent, I might be a little more concerned about my kid going somewhere that the people are supposed to look after the kid aren't really doing a bang up job. That all being said, no clue on what details are, so hard to really know where the horrible decision making came from, but when alcohol is involved...
I'm not jumping your case or anything but at some point these "kids" need to be responsible for their own actions. They want big boy privilages? Then you have to accept the big boy consequences when you screw up. It is NOT the coaches responsibility to stand guard outside these "kids'" room all night to make sure they don't sneak out. And how does "covering butts" help anyone in the long run? All you're teaching these young men is: "It's okay to break the LAW as long as you cover your tracks and don't get caught!" No wonder so many athletes are entitled self righteous pricks these days.
I'm pretty sure nobody force fed Smoke any booze.
With the black vans (AKA ESPN Investigatory Journalists) parked outside of every major football program these days just waiting to break a story, I'm not covering tracks for anyone if I'm a coach or university affiliate. You mess up, go be a man (or woman) and deal with the consequences.
Sorry everyone.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Kid will accept the consequences, no where did I say he shouldn't. Legal system does what it does.
Never said anything about coach responsibility, the idea of that is unrealistic and I never said that.
As for breaking law being okay and not getting caught... I am going to assume you never break the law, stop every stop sign and never got a mile per hour over the speed limit. The same thing? No. But you're still breaking the law and adhering to not getting caught makes it okay. And if you think this is what brings them into the entitlement attitude, you're showing up way late to the party. Athletes receive special attention and benefits early in school. I cannot even begin to point out the amount of football players who were given a pass in school because they were football players. The root issue concerning that is far deeper than "covering butts."
And you can still look out for people without putting your neck on the line. If you see someone is too drunk to be doing anything, hang with them and keep them from doing stuff. These are supposed to be FRIENDS around you, sure they are also the idiots who broke the law and enabled the kid to drink, but they should have a small bit of a brain to make sure that person also doesn't go and get arrested... Always hear athletes talk about how their teammates are like family, I sure as in hell look after my family even if they are making stupid decisions that could end up in far worse consequences then being arrested or anything like that. Just seems like everytime its always a player/recruits fault when I can easily look around and see failures to act from people I have higher expectations from.
Who were you referring to as doing a "bang up job" if not the coaches/faculty?
How does my getting away with speeding or rolling an occasional stop sign make it okay for a recruit to illegally consume alcohol? Where does this mindset come from that suggests you should be able to get away with "X" because your neighbor got away with "Y"? Are you really suggesting I turn myself in everytime my foot gets a little heavy? The key phrase here is: "The same thing? NO."
Are you really suggesting I pull myself over and call the cops everytime my foot gets a little heavy? Tell you what, I'll give it a whirl and let you know what the dispatcher says.
Suggesting that this sort of thing adds to an athletes sense of entitlement doesn't make me late to anything.
Jim Tressel wholeheartedly disagrees.
No, these are actually prospective coaches, faculty and/or future teamates.
There is a big difference between a highschool prospect on a recruiting visit and a roomate/teamate, kinda tough to play the "family" card here.
No, he enabled HIMSELFT to drink when he decided to grab a beverage and elevate it to his mouth repeatedly.
I'm no lawyer and I don't play one on TV but this sounds suspiciously like someone trying to blame the coaches/staff for some highschool prospect making a concious decision to illegally consume alcohol.
NOTE: You missed it the first time when I prefaced with it, so this time I'll conclude with: I'm not trying to jump on you or anything. Just pointing out how I disagree that the coaches/staff get blamed for every little thing their student-athletes/prospects do, when these young men are infact adults and should be responsible for their own actions.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Reminds me of a time where I was drunk and had to tell one of my drunk buddies not to make...erm...bodily contact with random cars on the street. Great night.
