PSA

Fans, please do not tweet, message or contact recruits negatively in any way. We saw it with Vonn Bell's brother and now again with EzE. They notice, and it can make an impact on their perception of the school and our fanbase. I realize this probably only applies to a tiny percentage of us, but it can still make an impact. Thank you, and go Bucks.

Grown men tweeting high school kids is ridiculous anyway.  I get recruiting experts and guys like Alex doing it, but random dudes who are fans of Ohio State tweeting kids just makes no sense to me and is weird.

Most of it I hope would be other high school kids, Grown men tweeting Recruits is weird!!

Coincidentally, this is the first thing I thought when I read this thread title, too. :(

I don't see a point in this. Buckeye nation is a lot bigger than 11w.

anyone know what was said? It is absolutely ridiculous to tweet recruits man. I am only 24, and I find it creepy if I tweeted a recruit.... I will send them a tweet once in a blue moon once they are a buckeye and if they made a good play, but not while they are still a recruit...

ex: last year i tweeted Tyvis Powell when he intercepted a ball, but it got called back for a defensive penalty on the line. I told him he got an interception in my book.

That was the last tweet I have sent to an Ohio State player

If you tweet negative things, or really anything to a 17 year old kid, I think you're a pedophile, point blank and period.

Just a life long Buckeye fan wanting to talk to other lifelong Buckeye fans.  Our honor defend, we will fight to the end for OOO HIIII OOOOOO!

I think there is a big perception that it must be grown men sitting in their mom's basement but in reality it's probably 95% other highschool kids that are rabid OSU fans already or even current OSU students.

I'm in no way saying that makes it better but I just think the perception of whom is actually tweeting these kids on a regular basis is a little off.

A pedophile?  Uh, no.

I don't like the idea of any adults tweeting anything negative to a kid or anything at all to a kid they don't know.  But those two situations are very, very far removed.

Here's a question: what are the odds that there is a small group of trolls, malcontents, and Tuiasosopo-types out there using Twitter as a way to game recruits? I know it sounds a little Black Helicopter, but if people spend enough energy to create fake fan accounts on forums like these for the express purpose of trolling real fans, doesn't it make sense that they're out there using Twitter to troll recruits and stir the pot?

Unfortunatley, this is the world we live in now.

If I were a recruit or even anyone with some kind of status (Ron Burgondy "people know me" status) I would really never be able to take anything negative towards me seriously. There is no way you would be able to tell what the motivation behind comments come from (unless you know the person)

I will admit that I have sent tweets to players after they have committed welcoming them to the S&G. But I think we have to leave the recruiting to the experts while keeping in mind that these are a bunch of 17-18 year old kids that probably don't give a damn what we think anyway.

I see no problem with this. Just saying congrats and we're happy to have you is fine. I mean tweeting attacks at kids who may no be coming or are looking elsewhere.

I am 52, I don't use Twitter or Facebook for anything. Just never liked them. I have seen way too many times where using these get people fired or in hot water. Heck I don't even answer my phone when driving. Being retired military it made my job harder when we had important visitors come into a hot area and tweet where they were at. Just made the job of trying to protect them that much harder. There are some things that just shouldn't be said. Just my two cents.

I think you guys are assuming the negative tweets are A. from anyone who is on this site and B. its from someone of an age over 20.

Kids even at age 10 do use twitter and are fans of teams. My 16 yr old nephew doesn't use twitter but he has no problem ripping a player just as much as any adult fan. Not saying its only kids but I wouldn't be surprised if a kid around 17 who doesn't get as much as he thinks he does, is the one who sends these comments.

plus twitter is such a huge thing it can easily be a pimp in Bangkok who is just having some fun. We don't know so no reason to get all bent out of shape about it. What Gibson said shows he is thin skinned and lets stupid comments get to him. Trust me, it gets much worst on the field when you are a buckeye playing in Ann Arbor, Madison and other rivals places. and you can't assume its a true buckeye fan that is making said comments.

I'll preface this by saying I don't have a twitter account, but it seems like it is helpful to recruting to follow recruits (but not tweet them).  I feel like recruits always say things like "show me love Buckeyenation" or "only 200 followers, step it up Buckeynation."

Basically, think of it as the exact opposite of talking to women: Following them makes them like you, but actually talking to them creeps them out.

I think the fact we are even talking about tweeting recruits or whats said has a little to do with the immaturity of said recruit.  If they just keep a lid on it and realize it's only the people with no lifes saying things to them on twitter and brush it off, then we wouldn't even be having this conversation.  One thing I've realized is you "can't fix stupid", you just need to brush those people off and move on.
