Shelton Gibson is out and isn't an option at Ohio State anymore per Rivals. Ohio State has stopped recruiting him, too many question marks. Next person who wants to be a Buckeye, step up!
Gibson has also committed to West Virgina per Scouts.

Shame.
Makes a lot of sense, and honestly I wasn't high on him from the jump. Anytime a high school football player has trouble with grades and it hinders his decision to pick 1 school or the other, it sends up a red flag for me. you're 17 or 18 years old, your job is to go to school, pull good grades, and play football. He was sketchy from day one.
Just a life long Buckeye fan wanting to talk to other lifelong Buckeye fans. Our honor defend, we will fight to the end for OOO HIIII OOOOOO!
I wouldn't judge the character of this kid at all, I have never met him. But it does feel eerily familiar to Latwan Anderson's recruitment.
I wonder what the unanswered questions are....a position of need, with his best friend being here, and let's be honest, he's pretty good. Miss on Quick and Gibson, just wonder who the wr's will be in this class (yes I know we have Jalin)....
I'm not sure you can say OSU "missed" on Gibson.
Agreed
Wherever you are, there you be!
Jalin Marshall like you said and we have Taivon Jacobs. I think Darron Lee will be a receiver and I think we also get Corey Smith.
Darron Lee will not play receiver. Could not do it at the high school level; I saw him play a few games at WR his sophomore and junior year (the only times he ever played WR), he couldn't play it at a high level. Definitely not a D1 level WR, definitely a D1 level safety.
I'm with tennbuckeye on this. We definitely missed on Quick but we have essentially passed on Gibson. I remember hearing back in early 2012 how he was a guaranteed Buckeye but needed to get some academic issues straightened out. It's been nearly a year and he still seemingly doesn't have it straightened out. Anyone who knows WVU's reputation knows that if you don't have good grades and/or a bad reputation, you can go there without question. The fact that WVU has come into play to me is screaming that he wasn't able to get grades or test scores and WVU turned into a fall back plan.
Example to solidify Unky's point: Adam "Pacman" Jones...
Tom Crean listens to Nickelback...
Hopefully we get Wilson and the Robinson Twins. We play the same offense as Oregon. One of the twins can also play wide receiver. Ohio State didn't miss on Gibson, we dropped him.
Gibson just commited to WV per Scout.com

Thanks, I edited it.
Some kids just can't play school good.
Are WVU's admission standards really that much lower than OSU regarding scholarship athletes?
Yes. And they don't require their applicants to have a full set of teeth.
Or a family tree that has branches.....I kid, hell, I live about 30 mi. from WV.
Yes, they are pretty much what OSU used to be which is open admission.
The lowest they can have is the baseline for NCAA clearinghouse. He still may not get in to WVU as far as eligibility is concerned.
If you can set fire to furniture, you get admitted to West Virginia
Pretty sure that getting "schmacked" is a daily requirement there too.
West VirMEEEEEXXXXXXIIIIICCOOOOO!!!!!
Yes
It seems like WVU might be a better fit for him. This dance carried on way too long.
Way off topic... but did you guys hear/read about Manti Te'o's supposedly 'dead' girlfriend?? Apparently that was a hoax.. she was in a serious car accident, survived and then was diagnosed w/ Leukemia and he would talk to her on the phone every night while falling asleep... anyways here's the article on Dead Spin.
here's a lil snippet:
Manti Te'o did lose his grandmother this past fall. Annette Santiago died on Sept. 11, 2012, at the age of 72, according to Social Security Administration records in Nexis. But there is no SSA record there of the death of Lennay Marie Kekua, that day or any other. Her passing, recounted so many times in the national media, produces no obituary or funeral announcement in Nexis, and no mention in the Stanford student newspaper.
Nor is there any report of a severe auto accident involving a Lennay Kekua. Background checks turn up nothing. The Stanford registrar's office has no record that a Lennay Kekua ever enrolled. There is no record of her birth in the news. Outside of a few Twitter and Instagram accounts, there's no online evidence that Lennay Kekua ever existed.
The photographs identified as Kekua—in online tributes and on TV news reports—are pictures from the social-media accounts of a 22-year-old California woman who is not named Lennay Kekua. She is not a Stanford graduate; she has not been in a severe car accident; and she does not have leukemia. And she has never met Manti Te'o.

if this is true...wow
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Wait. I thought this was a clearinghouse issue, which means if he's unable to qualify, he's not qualify PERIOD, not just some places and not others. Can someone clarify this for me?

What a Mega-Mullet that dude has.-
My Dad always used to call it West "By God" Virginia. His words too btw before you flame me....I always wondered where he got that saying...but I never asked.
That mullet is priceless too Jang...as well as that avatar pic of yours;-)

This is one of my favorite things that ever happened. When you see it...
Ah yes! I believe thats close to Cave City... It's a pretty dark and funky place.
The guy on the right is actually from CBus. I had to guard him at open gym a few times in HS...all 6'1" of me and 6'11" of him.
6 months ago I would have thought you were crazy if you told me Gibson to WVU
Academics strike again!
Interesting....this tells us a lot about why all the offers went out before he even left campus. It is a shame as a few pointed out...I thought he be good at OSU. But Good Luck to him at WVU. If they had half a defense I'd consider it a good move;-)

I've said this before, but Gibson has had since last spring to get his academics in order. He has a long time to get his academics in order. It was time and the staff moved on.
o well......would have been nice to have a star ohio player but if they can pull off stealing the brothers from oregon that could be huge too....
Gibson may end up at UK
MOVE ON FROM GIBSON CHECK DARREN CARRINGTON OUT...A BEAST...WATCH THE FILM FROM PLAY ONE U CAN TELL HES A STUD
Kizzle
Are you the Waycraken for Carrington?
Im WayCraKen and you just received my first ever downvote. Actually I told myself if I ever gave a downvote I would attach my name to it. Im giving you your second upvote instead because I am sure that was a compliment to the fella.
DID U WATCH THE FILM???
Kizzle
I did, and he's a beast. Timmons also has an amazing film, though.
That's what Waycraken would have asked!!??!!
It's a shame, seemed like he could have really done well at tOSU.
I wish him the best of luck at WVU.
You know, it is possible that Gibson had good enough grades but Urban still pulled the plug. Urban is constantly evaluating and something may have occurred that tipped the balance away from offering Gibson.
Remember Davonte Neal wanting to commit last year on signing day and being turned down? Possibly the same kind of situation. I truly believe Urban's later quote, "The kid's last step was out of bounds", about a WR who wanted to commit but was turned away, was a metaphor expressing that someone in the Neal camp made an indecent proposal on his behalf.
Something similar may have happened with Gibson. Or he may have revealed a side of his character that the coaches hadn't seen yet, ala Robert Foster.
Why? :(
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Not surprised. Kid has grade issues .. seems real full of himself listening to interviews. Listen to Zeke Elliot / Jalin / Apple interviews.. all said they cant wait to contribute rather than advance personal goals, very unselfish guys. OSU learned their lesson with headcases like TP. Last year Davonte Neal top 10 recruit ATH.. committed to OSU .. but his offer was taken away for some strange reason .. obv not because the talent wasn't there but Urban knows from his experiences at UF that finding quality young men who are quality athletes are better than just quality athletes who are detrimental.
How do you know he has grade issues? Grades and character could possibly have been the reason he will not be coming to OSU, but it could just as easily been that he chose WV over OSU for other reasons. I hate seeing people tear down a kid based on rumors and innuendo, when they really have no clue if they are true or not.
Especially when 99% in here loved him on Jan5th. It was most likely an issue that will never be revealed nor should it be.
Does this issue hurt us with the coaches of Gibson's high school at all? I know we've picked up a few players from there over the years. I know it isn't like Glenville, but I'd like the Ohio talent to stay in Ohio.
I somehow doubt our staff burned bridges with the staff at Cleveland Heights.
it appears that Mr. Gibson is still looking around even after committing to WVU...not sure that there isnt more to the story than just grades/test scores...
In any event good luck to Mr Gibson, where ever he may choose to go.
