I know a guy who played at App. St. and was a freshman the year they played TTUN. The first time I met him, he was wearing an OSU hat. Knowing he wasn't from Ohio, I said I liked the hat but wondered why he was wearing it instead of an App. St. hat. His reply was, "We beat Michigan, so it's basically like we are Ohio State." I couldn't do anything but laugh. He made it seem like the entire team became OSU fans after that game.

It still blows my mind that they thought they could get a pulling guard around fast enough to block Clowney. They didn't even bother to chip him first, he just ran through untouched. Reminds me a bit of the WR screen we ran against Michigan from the 2 yard line that got Braxton destroyed. Sometimes OC's get too cute for their own good!
i don't think that's what they thought at all, althought i completely agree with you about OC's getting too cute. i read that there was a protection audible called on the line, and the walk-on tight end next to lewan missed the call. there's a decent chance clowney gets through anyway, but is at least slowed enough to possibly let smith secure the ball. either way, his helmet still pops off
and also, while i would be thrilled to see plays like this in THE GAME in the future, let's be realistic. we don't have anyone on our DL that even comes remotely close to clowney (yet). not to mention michigan isn't likely to be lining up too many 5'6" 180lb running backs very often
we don't have anyone on our DL that even comes remotely close to clowney (yet).
Not yet is right...we will though and it won't be that long till we do.

Good for the conference. However, just remember we have EZE and Dontre coming in (fingers crossed) AND our very talented stable of backs. Not worried, takes more than a RB to beat the defense we're building here.
Can't believe people are this upset...with the defense we've been able to recruit last year and this, combined with our S&C and player dev. abilities, D. Green will prove to be nothing more than a nice tune-up for our defenses before our Big Ten title games.
I don't wish anything bad upon him, and he should know that even the best skunk bear HBs never beat the Bucks. He'll be a legend up there!
Good get for ttun. He should be a very good player. Had he signed with us we would have reacted as if it was the second coming of christ, but now hes apparently chopped liver because he signed with ttun. Thanks for bringing this information to our attention. Sorry that you werent treated better, but you gotta watch the "your mom" comments when you are not popular on the site. If you were popular, you could call someone a troll and get upvotes.
Still, it's pretty terrifying when you think about a Morris-Green backfield. Do you know that Morris averaged ONE-HUNDRED-AND-TWENTY-THREE yards per game and ONE touchdown as a senior? Oh what's that? He's a QUARTERBACK? Yeah, Green should be ready to get tackled behind the line of scrimmage. A lot.
I know it's not always a popular thing to say here, but it is good for the B1G. The conference needs more recruits of this nature spread throughout it...It's no good for OSU if the world sees B1G football as slightly better than the Big East...
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
Seems like a pretty easy choice. A team that's determined to have a power running game, has recruited something close to a dozen OL in the past two classes, and has no power running back. Definitely an important pick up for Michigan. Of course, they're about to lose Poggi to Bama. So, we can enjoy that meltdown instead.
Gotta say, not having Green in this class is a bit of a bummer for me. The kid was all S&G his whole life, and helped sway Curtis Grant here. I understand he didn't really fit Urban's system, and he didn't want to take more than one RB, but it would've been nice to see him playing for Ohio State.
It sucks he's going to Michigan. We would have probably taken him had he wanted to commit before EZE did but he wanted to go through the process knowing that he might not get to come here.
Good get for Michigan, but I think our defense is enough to stop him.
Spilt milk. Kid's an animal for sure, & I imagine he'll do well there as they are growing into a pro-style offense. That's great for those dudes, but I'm more than content with our dudes...At least once a year, I'll be hoping for his stats to be in the negative column.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
He's a good player. No one will say otherwise. Or doubt that. Hoke is doing a nice job of recruiting to win big ten titles. Same way tressel recruited. I know it was thought he wanted to be a buckeye come signing day. He wanted to play the game...elliott wanted in early. And urban decided that was enough for this class. Especially after he saw the way the guys on the roster already performed in the new offense. Elliotts skill set fits the offense in multiple facets. Green fits what tsun is trying to implement offensively. They got their back. We have ours. Raises the big ten recruiting profile a little bit as well. Won't change their fate come that 4th Saturday in november.
However, this will just improve TTUN and make them better competition for the rivalry.
As far as the kid has been S&G his whole life. I'm not sure if I buy that. Okay, he loves Eddie George. However, a kid that has been a buckeye his whole life would not want to play for TTUN.
I dont think anyone cares what number he wears or why. Anyways, the O lines that Michigan are recruiting vs the D lines that osu are recruiting will set up for some epic battles over the next few years.
I downvoted you because your comment was uncalled for. Its all in competitve nature. It wasn't like he was trolling or anything. We might hate Michigan but at least have some repsect for those Michigan fans who show it on 11W. Comments like

Him picking scUM should tell you how badly he wanted to be a Buckeye, IMO. Things don't always work out the way they "should", but that's life. Best of luck to him. I know he will be playing with a massive chip when we meet in November.
Yeah, I'm with the above that I'm sorry that we cooled on him. Seemed like he was OSU all the way until that happened. I know I've gotta keep in mind that Urbs is recruiting for his offense, and to give it time. It's just going to be weird to me for a while that OSU is looking for "scatback" types that look more like Denard Robinson, while scUM is getting I-back types that look like Eddie George. Role reversal. I hope this works out for us, this kid is a stud...
Agree. Wish we could've had him. Everyone can say what they want, that our d-line is going to blow him up for the next 4 years, but their jobs would've been a lot easier without having to face him. Dude is a stud, no way around it. A big missing piece to their offense.
I'll say this in regards to what you've said here - I hope they don't strictly recruit smaller fast guys in the future either (although at 205lbs, Zeke is not exactly small) as Carlos Hyde worked out very well this year. Then you have Brionte & Rod Smith on board too, so there are some bruisers. It's always good to have a guy who can run right over people when needed & I do hope that tradition is around for a while at OSU. I think it will be..
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
I'm a fan of all 3 of the backs you mentioned above. Hyde more than proved his mettle down the stretch this year, Smith has shown a lot of what he can do (if he holds on to the ball), and I thought Bri'onte Dunn looked great when he got his chances. I'm with you, I hope that Urban noticed that his spread still works when you have a punishing style back. In some B1G games (MSU and scUM come to mind) it was Hyde who salted it away at the end for us with YAC first downs. I also hope we always have that. Maybe I've been stained by Mo Wells and Jaamal Berry, but I haven't seen the smaller-quick type back work yet for us. Maybe those guys would have worked in this offense too? Like I said, I'll give Elliott time and the benefit of the doubt, but it hurts to lose Green to scUM.
I agree that Urban will keep with the big backs. I remember him saying he used smaller backs at UF because he had Tebow as his power back. Now that he has XBRAX360, I think he keeps with the bruisers up the middle. Green told the staff he wanted to wait to commit, If he really wanted to be part of this class, he would be. We're stocked right now and '14 is loaded with power backs who have legit interest (Hurd, Chubb, etc.) Good luck to him playing for that poor excuse of a team for the next 4 years!!!

Deveon Smith is a good player too. Interesting to see how their backfield shapes up in the next couple years. But our defensive recruits are certainly shaping up to be prepared for them. There will be some fun battles.
Green grew up an OSU fan and idolized Eddie George so logically he commits to UM and will wear 27. How much of a Buckeye fan could this kid really be and does anyone else feel like this kids is bitter about not getting an OSU offer?
Do not get it. Just watched Greens highlight video from 2012, some eleven minutes. There has to be a wow factor in the #1 RB as some call him. Can someone watch this and tell me at what point he has an amazing run? Is it because he can run over people? At the 4:50 mark or so he gets caught from behind and tackled at the one yard line by a one hundred fifty pounder after an eighty yard run. He is supposed to be ultra fast, right? Keeping in mind he is a two hundred twenty pound muscled HSer and should break a few tackles but he should also show more for the rating he is given IMO. Zeke looks like a better back to me.
Not trying to belittle the kid just trying to justify how everyone gushes over him and how he is a five star recruit. He looks identical to Deveon Smith in running style and in fact, Smith shows more on film than Greene to me. I am glad he is going to ttun for the B1Gs sake. More likely for a bigger name recruit to pick OSU when seeing this and one less for the SEC to spout off about. Here's the link.
He ran a 4.58 at Nike according to JC Shurburtt from 247. His appeal isn't so much his speed as it is the rest of his intangibles (power, vision, cuts). He has enough speed to get by, though. I think he looks like he'll be a very solid RB, fits the mold you usually see in a Bama backfield.
Zeke definitely fits what we're doing better, though. But I would have loved to grab Green as well.
I've seen a bunch of his highlights and just see a solid back, nothing more. Great pickup for UM? Sure, especially when you factor in speed and size, and from what I've heard, coachability. I just don't see any wiggle or breakaway and, in my heart of hearts, I'm thinking that's what our staff saw as well when they got past all of the drooling recruiting sites and rated him themselves with our offense in mind. Don't be shocked in 2014 when Smith gets the PT and people start asking, "what ever happened to...?"
Don't get me wrong really love this years class so far, but would have been really great to land him. If there's any solice at least from our side we know we had a really strong chance to land him and we told him no. All that said, congrats to him going to a great school (even though I hate it) and to a program that is on the rise (seems strange to say that since its tsun). However, in the end of the day not only will this add more hype to the rivalry but its also a great pick up by the Big10 over two SEC schools. Again, congrats to the kid, have to remember he is a high schooler and he just made a huge choice.
Regardless of whether this young man idolized Eddie George or not, going to Michigan was by far the best choice of the opportunities that were presented to him. None of the SEC schools he was considering would have made him into a star running back. While we OSU fans may be confident that our defense will contain him for The Game, the fact that Michigan has a dozen (at least it seems that many) OL recruits in this class will only benefit his potential to be a significant contributor at the college level, especially against most of the Big Ten defenses that are not up to par with The Silver Bullets.
My only issue with his decision is the arrogant fools who follow that program and are now making all sorts of boisterous claims. You picked up a talented high school running back, you didn't gain a commitment from Adrian Peterson or Bo Jackson.
If he goes out next year and just runs all over people (including us) I will tip my hat to him. I seriously don't see that happening though. He's going to be a freshman with a lot of expectation on him. Even with the great year Beanie had as a freshman he still played behind Pittman who was more experienced and really catapulted Beanie to that next level that we remember from his soph/junior years. Green is going to come in and they will expect him to be THE man right away...I just think that's too much to ask of a freshman RB in a very physical conference.
Not too worried with Mitchell running a 4.39 he'll be all over green for the next 4 years. It feels to me like hokes recruiting is alot like Tressels and we know what urban did against that. Hokes building teams to be big ten contenders while we build for national championships.
Problem wasn't Tressel's recruiting (other than, possibly, not taking enough guys), it was his coaching. That awful NC game wasn't a talent gap. It was men against boys, but on the coaching staff, not on the field.
Remains to be seen if Hoke, like Tressel, isn't quite good enough. Nothing I've seen out of him so far tells me he can rise to Meyer's level, which is why I love seeing all the "who cares about Meyer, we have HOKE (and MANBALL!!)" post on mgoblog.
I agree, Tressel was better than every coach in conference and had the talent to stack up against anyone, but they playing not to lose crap was horrible. I would be concerned about Michigan had Harbaugh signed on as coach, but Hoke does absolutely nothing to worry me.
In our style of offense I take EZ in a heartbeat! Green is closer to a powerback/north and south runner while EZ will spread the field. 5 years ago I'd take Green but not with Urban offense.
Green is going to be a good player. With that said, I'd take Hyde over him next season, and Dunn will be comprable the year after that (I'm not high on Rod Smith, too many fumbles, I think he's missed his opportunity here.) Best of luck to the young man, every game but ours.
I understand the point of view that Green got what he deserved in having his OSU offer pulled (I'm assuming that's what happened?) after waiting too long. But does anyone really expect him to rule out Michigan, despite being VERY heavily recruited by them, after having his OSU offer pulled - just because he's too much of an OSU fan?
Think about it this way - you date a guy for a while, you keep hinting, or actually outright saying that you want to get married, but he just isn't ready. Eventually you get tired of waiting and break up with him. Then a while later you hear that he married a bitch you really, REALLY hate. Sure, you could insist that "if he'd ever really loved you, he wouldn't have married that total bitch." But deep down you know - you pulled the trigger on the break up. It was probably even the right decision. But it also probably crushed him, and you can't be surprised that he'd enjoy the opportunity to get back at you.
And yes, I presented that from the point of view of a girl, even though I'm a dude, and so are most of you. But it just wouldn't have made sense with the gender roles reversed.
Play it down all you want but I'd rather face a UM team without him. He's a good NCAA prospect and UM is better off with him. He's gonna give us trouble.
Commits to Michigan and pulls a Ryan Mallett. (Transfers) That would be hilarious. Mallett was the biggest sign they've gotten before this. Top 10 wise.
If Green had come to OSU, we'd all be saying that he was the next Eddie George. Because he's going to Michigan, he's so overrated and his film sucks and all the analysts are wrong. Come on. He's a great player who will present a real challenge for the Buckeyes. Just accept that.
Kid is definitely a player. Should be a good back behind the line they've brought in. Number 1 RB in America? I don't think so by his tape, but definitely very good. Very college ready. My main doubts are his rumored speed (4.3 something? Not in his film) and his lack of power for his size. I personally think EzE shows a better combo of wiggle, speed, power, hands, and vision.
Green doesn't break nearly as many tackles at the high school level as everyone seems to think. He has no film of trucking over four or five guys, which is what a lot of people seem to believe he does. He gets brought down by guys who weigh 40 pound less A LOT.
That, and if you read what I wrote I said EzE has a better COMBO of traits than Green, which if you think he doesn't, then you haven't watched much film.
Completely agree. There is nothing special in any film I have watched. You have to take in the fact that all of these HS players that are physically gifted at that age will be superior to their competition in HS. So they should look spectacular. I have watched HS football for many years and can list many backs that look just as good if not better. Am glad someone else sees it like I do. At the college level these guys are playing equal talent. No advantage. Good luck to him and I mean that. If he did get too much hype he will have a lot of pressure to shoulder. Do not wish that on any kid. That said, I have zero concerns about our rivals take here.
No offense, but with Green being a Michigan recruit, I'm going to trust the analysts more than I trust an OSU fan when it comes to scouting. He's very good.
You really like the guy, being a ttun recruit and all, as you reference in every one of your posts. Hope he turns out to be a good player but he shows nothing special in his highlights. I personally believe what I see rather than what someone tells me I see.
He looked pretty good in the all star game he was in. If he isn't the best back in the country, he is close. He is a perfect fit for their offense and should be very good for them. As long as um continues to have no receivers and don't have any QBs with accuracy, I will still not be worried, but Green definitely makes them a lot better.
All i know is, urban proved he loves and needs a quality, powerful back in his power read option offense. Derrick green could have been that and a lot more. I wish he committed at the start but that sit happens. Good thing is we have Brionte Dunn. Bad news is green it's at our rivals.
I personally don't make a huge deal about class rankings but I thought I would pass along the updated class rankings with Green now in the fold.
ESPN: OSU 4, TTUN 6
Rivals: OSU 4, TTUN 6
247: OSU 3, TTUN 4
Scout: OSU 3, TTUN 1
Remember also that TTUN has 27 as oppsed to our 22. TTUN max is 28. With Poggi prob leaving, that leaves 2 more spots. I know they are really targeting Durham Smythe from TX as their last "big" recruit.
I see OSU taking 3 more. Any combo of Bell, Wilson, Clark, Skipper, Hunt, Smith, or signing day flip.
Scout is still saying that Zeke is just a soft verbal now that his is visiting Missou. If he "recommits" or affirms his committment, than I see that ranking going up.
I waited as long as I could to read this thread, hoping the longer I held out, the more I might care about the subject. Well....nope....I still don't give a shit that Green is going to Michiscum.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
"Because ya dance with them that brung ya." Meaning, I'm more concerned with Ohio State football than I am Michiscum. I think we've got better facilities, a better coaching staff, a better condition program, and I think that it's a proven fact we turn out better players to the NFL. So, no I don't care at all what 17 or 18 year old kid is going to Michiscum. I'd look in at MgoBlow if I felt the need to check on Choke and company.

New users typically with Buckeye names usually don't jump in, defend Michigan with their first 5+ posts, and write with similar sentence structures as the two banned users. I pay extreme attention to details. We need an IP ban if it's him again. Just seems fishy.
He did go after Green very hard early on. Green wanted to play the recruiting game and wait it out til signing day after visiting several times and Meyer stopped recruiting him as did a lot of other schools. Hence why is top schools early on were OSU, Bama, Oklahoma, USC, Georgia, South Carolina and he ended up picking from scUM, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.
Let Michigan enjoy the Derrick Green pick-up, then continue the full court press on Jalen Hurd (a transcendent RB) for next year's class if I'm the OSU staff:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfsP9fFfzv4
We should turn this into a Jalen Hurd thread so we can start talking about a real RB! haha j/k
Talk about someone who could actually fill #27's jersey/shoes one day!
Eddie George - 6'3", 235
Jalen Hurd - 6'3", 210 (it'll be 230 easy once Coach Mick gets ahold of him)
Gazelle-like Long stride, tremendous burst, top-end speed, elusive, breaks tackles, great vision.

It still blows my mind that they thought they could get a pulling guard around fast enough to block Clowney. They didn't even bother to chip him first, he just ran through untouched. Reminds me a bit of the WR screen we ran against Michigan from the 2 yard line that got Braxton destroyed. Sometimes OC's get too cute for their own good!
i don't think that's what they thought at all, althought i completely agree with you about OC's getting too cute. i read that there was a protection audible called on the line, and the walk-on tight end next to lewan missed the call. there's a decent chance clowney gets through anyway, but is at least slowed enough to possibly let smith secure the ball. either way, his helmet still pops off
No it was Omameh, the guard, whose assignment was to pull Clowney. No way Omameh is fast enough for that play, it was a poor call
No, it wasn't the guard's assignment. It was a deuce audible and the TE didn't hear it, leaving Clowney unblocked.
and also, while i would be thrilled to see plays like this in THE GAME in the future, let's be realistic. we don't have anyone on our DL that even comes remotely close to clowney (yet). not to mention michigan isn't likely to be lining up too many 5'6" 180lb running backs very often

A lot.
But, but, he had mono or something...
he was better from mono at the AA game and looked just as bad so I don't think it was the mono. Kid has a bad case of the Bausermanitis
DON'T CAAARRRREEEE
Follow me @jaythesportsguy
He is a talented young man but we have been recruiting alot of studs on the defense side of the ball I'm not really to worried by it.
I can honestly say that I'm not worried about this at all. With Morris as his QB he is going to be seeing 8 in the box.
Ask Mike Hart about this decision. #O-4

Good for the B1G. Should be interesting the next few years.
It's going to be weird watching a Michigan running back who wears the number 27 because he idolized Eddie George...
If he idolized him, it was while Eddie played in the NFL. Kid was like 1 when Eddie left OSU.
Wish we had kept a spot for him.
Class of 2008
kinda weird that he wants to wear eddie george's number at tsun
True. And by "pro style" Hoke means what the NFL was doing 8 years ago.
He would have been nice to have.
However, this will just improve TTUN and make them better competition for the rivalry.
As far as the kid has been S&G his whole life. I'm not sure if I buy that. Okay, he loves Eddie George. However, a kid that has been a buckeye his whole life would not want to play for TTUN.
Hope Brady Joke and the scUM fans accept that he's wearing 27 to idolize an Ohio State player
My thoughts on Green running into Bosa
I dont think anyone cares what number he wears or why. Anyways, the O lines that Michigan are recruiting vs the D lines that osu are recruiting will set up for some epic battles over the next few years.

Him picking scUM should tell you how badly he wanted to be a Buckeye, IMO. Things don't always work out the way they "should", but that's life. Best of luck to him. I know he will be playing with a massive chip when we meet in November.

Not even worried about this one..
Isn't that hyper stupid or what?
Talking about a high school running back yet to be graduated,
and whether our (college) defense can stop him or not.
That's an insult to our players and coaches on defense,
and of course that subject is Stuuuupid!
Shane Morris and Derrick Green= Chad Henne and Mike Hart
I don't think Shane Morris is going amount to much...but Green is for real.
Shane Morris wishes that he could be compared to Henne. Henne was a pretty solid QB at UM even though he never beat us.
Can he tie his shoes?
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
He never had an OSU offer? Weird.
Had an offer for a long time. Waited too long to pull the trigger and we stopped recruiting him
It's his best chance, you don't rule out your best choice because of who you grew up liking.
I will say though, if missing on him = 1 less RB adding depth = getting Jalen Hurd next year: count me among those happy to have missed.
Here's the link.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iuj0HJ6XPHs
He ran a 4.58 at Nike according to JC Shurburtt from 247. His appeal isn't so much his speed as it is the rest of his intangibles (power, vision, cuts). He has enough speed to get by, though. I think he looks like he'll be a very solid RB, fits the mold you usually see in a Bama backfield.
Zeke definitely fits what we're doing better, though. But I would have loved to grab Green as well.
Agreed - and you can run over 170lb LB's in High school all day. When the LB's are 225+ & DL is 260+, he aint running over nobody!
Amen, brother.
Talk is cheap man...any true fan knows this.
I agree that D Green is more of a Wisconsin running back (albeit 40 lbs lighter)
So a poor man's John Clay?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Yep. Ron Dayne's nephew.
Considering he's from Richmond (George played for Fork Union outside of Richmond), I'm not too surprised he idolized him.
/Duff'd It
Good get for ttunn. Kid is special. But, if not landing Green means getting EzE and Hurd next year, I'll take it.
Watched video of Green and EzE. Woul take EzE over Green any day. Hope we can hang on to Ez.
Ummmm.
Lol yep he just made that comparison.

Play it down all you want but I'd rather face a UM team without him. He's a good NCAA prospect and UM is better off with him. He's gonna give us trouble.

If Green had come to OSU, we'd all be saying that he was the next Eddie George. Because he's going to Michigan, he's so overrated and his film sucks and all the analysts are wrong. Come on. He's a great player who will present a real challenge for the Buckeyes. Just accept that.
What do you mean "we"? Some of us don't male EG comparisons so easily.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I guarantee people here would be making all kinds of comparisons to RB legends if he had gone to OSU.
Or they'd just say "he could be something special".
I didn't even know Green had been recruited by Ohio State until I read it on Buckeyeplanet(it might have been here) a month or two ago.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Sorry, but if you thnk EZE has more power than Green, you haven't watched much film.
[Googles OSU's defensive recruiting haul, and sees current d-line]
All i know is, urban proved he loves and needs a quality, powerful back in his power read option offense. Derrick green could have been that and a lot more. I wish he committed at the start but that sit happens. Good thing is we have Brionte Dunn. Bad news is green it's at our rivals.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
What happened with Poggi?
Buckeye till I'm dead
Visited Bama this weekend and there are some that think he will flip.
Scout is still saying that Zeke is just a soft verbal now that his is visiting Missou. If he "recommits" or affirms his committment, than I see that ranking going up.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
EDIT: Smythe commited to ND. They are still at 27 with one more spot available at the moment.
Smythe to Notre Dame. I don't think Poggi is flipping, but still some uncertainty out there.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

I understand why people post this, but it just doesn't make any sense. How do you not care at all that they got the #1 RB in the country?

You don't pay extreme attention to details. You're just paranoid. I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about right now.

Not going to cry about it....I wish Meyer would've went after Green though....why I'm a fan and not the coach I guess.
