Greatest nickname ever, Mike "the abusement park" Mitchell. This is a video it appears his dad put together of his 2012 highlights. The only part that sucks is the annoying cowbell, the kid is a monster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF3U6ke8T8I

Interesting nickname...but he does tackle well in space and has great speed getting there. I like his intensity...he's going to help with OSU's lack of LB play from last year (besides the pleasant surprise of Zach Boren). After watching this and his HS play off game....he's going to be a tough Mike or Sam LB...should be a good one.

Once he makes a decision, he has freakish closing speed (as you would expect with a legit 4.39 40). But he's going to be a project to work on speeding those decisions up and becoming more instinctual.
It's great that you are enthusiastic about this kid. Thought I'd mention it civilly so that I might deflect other negative nellies. This information and his nickname have been out there a while and referenced many times on this site. I am happy you stumbled upon this and applaud your enthusiasm.
Thanks for offering your quasi-warning in such a tactful fashion... I've been around the site since late October and hadn't actually seen any of this, so I was glad someone shared it; the aforementioned "negative nellies" sometimes forget they are not the only visitor to the site ever (the flipside being that there is such a thing as too many James Quick threads in one forum).
You should create a thread to see if there is a such thing as too many James Quick threads.
Oh, that's tempting... This is one of those times where the appropriate "double dog dare" combination could push me over the edge... Must resist temptation...
Dog, dog. Dare
...... or you could make a slight breach in etiquette and skip right to the TRIPLE DOG DARE!!
I wonder...are James Quick threads to blame for RGIII's injury?
The crowd at ESPN's First Take seem to think so.
I too had never heard of the nickname, and I waste a lot of productivity at work being on this site multiple times a day.
His competition is a little "different" than that in the STA videos of Joey Bosa so it's hard to tell how good he really is. He's clearly a man amoung boys in the video. I'm excited to see how he does in S&G.
Is he really 6'5?
Depends where you look. He is listed at 6'4" on most recruiting sites and around 220 or so...
"...they're midgits!"-Coach Kerry Coombs
Playing in the conferance he plays in, in Plano, Tx he plays real competition and he IS for REAL. Those boys are serious ball players. I lived and coached in that area for 10 years.
At the SPARQ Combine, he measured in at 6-3.5 and 216 lbs.
Seeen this before.
I do think it's funny that Doubleshot98(a M*chigan fan), comments on every video that involves an Ohio State recruit or commit.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
His technique is pretty raw. Looks like he was really able to skate by on athleticism. I really wish he was here for spring ball but I bet the staff can get that ironed out quickly enough.
I was actually thinking the same thing - tackling fundamentals, for starters (I've seen this movie before, I'm sure of it...), given that he's not going to outsize the competition by 5" and 25-35 lbs. when he hits the B1G schedule.
Once he actually signs his LOI and sends it to Ohio State can't the staff recommend some training and workouts etc for him to work on??? I thought I remembered that about a recruit last year. Anyway, I bet the kid works hard until he gets here this summer for camp and comes in prepared. He may take a while to be a great player, but he may be a quick study too!
In my opinion it seems that Trey Johnson has the edge over Mitchell when it comes to technique. I'm not saying Mitchell is lacking a whole lot, but Johnson looks a whole lot more complete and explosive when finding gaps, getting to the ball, and laying the lumber. Mitchell is one heck of a specimen that appears to have a high ceiling despite some sloppy play. Let's hope that both of them come in and make an impact.
Best 5 minutes 13 seconds Ive spent all day.....Beastmode!
I can't speak to technique but I love watching that closing speed and point of impact. I also like to see him help up the guy he tackles (good sportsmanship).
yes, good sportsmanship. However, when he gets to OSU and ransacks an opposing offense, i'd like to see him leave the guy on the ground........ let that dude use his energy, to pick himself up.......... meanwhile, The Abusement Park can save his energy for the next ride.
I agree, I like to see good sportsmanship, but I like to see our destroyer of worlds conserve energy.

The Abusement Park was the name of my intramural volleyball team in college. We won a championship. Just sayin'.
Fellas, fellas, we need more cowbell.
This is the funniest thing I have read all day. Thanks.
About mitchell, he plays a little stiff. Definitely has the tools. I hope he can be the next Hawk as opposed to the next D'Andrea.
Before we get too excited, Marcus and Perkins are not going away either.
D'Andrea had medical issues that ended his carreer. It wasn't his play.
I like this video better than the one narrated by his mother (who is wonderful, I am sure) The one originally released by his family a while back. That video demonstrated a mean streak, which i like, but as Ndomikinotlookingupthespelling Suh proved can bring a lot of negative publicity to a team. I like the show of sportsmanship in these clips. Impressive if a guy can turn the intensity on and off with the click of a button. It shows the potential for great discipline. Alas, what do I know.
imo this recruit has the highest ceiling of any recruit in the nation... one can not teach the freakish athleticism the he possesses
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
The speed at the point of the attack is the thing I'm most excited about. Very raw, but nothing but upside.
To those commenting that this is old news, and etc, seriously, go jump off a bridge. I don't spend every minute on this site, and the few times I check it are usually when I have something to ask/post/say.

The first time I saw the video, I was waiting for Mitchell to run into the screen and make the tackle on the kick-off. It took a couple seconds to realize it was him returning the kick. That's just FREAKing crazy. This young man is possibly a different kind of kat.

Ditto - I was waiting for him to land a haymaker, too :)
His and Trey Johnson's signing instantly make special teams better... I hope he catches on early...
This kid can tackle and has great closing speed but can he adjust to playing with bigger players that also have similar speed?
Isn't that the question we have about all HS recruits? (except maybe the very short ones lol)
I'm with you but not many guys, nevermind linebackers, have 4.39 closing speed. That goes for the NFL too. Between Mitchell and Schazier we've got to have one of the fastest line backing corps in the country. Of course I'm assuming I didnt do any research.

Well, he looks like a beast against the run. I wonder if he ever has to pass defend.
If what I'm reading is correct, most of the schools he play against are run first teams. For whatever that's worth.

Take a look at his little brother, Kiwi, wrecking a kid in junior league.
With that speed, any chance we see him as a gunner on punt coverage? Seems to me like he could be the first step into changing the piranhas into sharks.
I still can't believe we have a linebacker coming that runs a 4.39. That doesn't even seem possible. I wander what the old timers used to run, Spielman and before. Imagine Speilmans technique, nose for the ball, and want combined with 4.3? Freaky. Man a LB with 4.39 makes me ramble. /thought
