Harris is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and is currently committed to Michigan State. He is very good at both football and basketball. Ohio State offered today and Harris told me he is, "Very interested" in the Buckeyes. When I asked about a visit, Harris said he would be visiting soon and is setting something up with Coach Coombs and Coach Meyer. Lastly when I asked if Ohio State was the team behind Michigan State, he responded: "Yeah, somewhere up there I would say."
I will try to get more from Harris soon. Harris is an extremely talented 6-4 WR and it's safe to say he's very interested in Ohio State.

Get Matta to offer too, just to help out.
There are rules about football/basketball offers affecting eligibility. I'm sure someone on the site knows them
He would take a football scholarship if he played both. That's about the only thing that matters. The question would be if it's feasible
I watched Tony Gonzalez do both well at Cal.
Ricky Dudley doubled here, but his basketball contribution was marginal
It's been a while since anyone really dynamic played both, that's why I ask. I think both sports have evolved enough in their commitments that's it's not possible to play to one's full potential in two simultaneous sports
Yes, Gonzlez was the last kid I saw do both. He was a B+ basketball player or better. Had decent touch for a big. I don't remember when he showed up during the season for basketball, although it probably helped to be at Cal (NO BOWL GAME)
How about Julius Peppers and Ronald Curry?
McNabb. Only guy to play in a Super Bowl and a Final Four.
It's not fair if Urban & Co. start taking all the best players from the state of _ichigan, as well. That whole state should just give up.
The Honeybadger takes what he wants. He don't give a sh!t LOL
Tress shut down the border...is Coach Meyer going to just take all the talent from M*ch AND recruit nationally? Would that be even more destructive?
You know, I was wondering this same thing during the season this year.
Then I got to thinking about all the great Ohio-born players from ttun. Jim Tressel did seem to have a stranglehold on nearly all the top talent in Ohio. Yet, with Urban's ability to get the very best from around the country, Ohio will still have a wealth of talent that will never play for the Buckeyes merely because of the numbers. We may see a bit of a resurgence from ttun simply due to this fact alone.
As of right now, I do think Hoke is a bit overrated as a coach but a strengthening of our national-recruitng scope along with the building of a program capable of taking on the SEC, may actually prove some pragmatic truth to the blind-squirrel theory.
I hope, of course they never get back to their past level, but will also admit that it is good for the rivalry when they are stong.
“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
I could see that but not in the way scum fans would want. They would be 2nd/3rd place teams with OSU winning the Big Ten most years competing with scum and Nebraska. Maybe throw Wisconsin and Michigan State in there every few year with a rare Iowa/Northwestern appearance.
Good points. Urbz national reach means that more players are available in the midwest for other B1G teams which is good for the tOSU and the rest of the B1G.
With Oregon, and possibly USC exploding next year, this effect could be particularly pronounced.
I'm hoping Meyer is able to drag DE Malik McDowell across the border for 4 years.
If this happens, it would be an enormous victory for OSU. Luckily, I don't think it will - but again - a lot can happen between now and NSD 2014.
As far as Harris goes - earlier in the thread, someone suggested offering him for basketball, too. He's actually decided to focus solely on football. That's the reason he's opening back up. Initially, Sparty won him over by saying he could play both. Now, that's moot.
Many TTUN fans and others didn't think Webb would be on board. However that changed just recently. Guess well see...huh? I'm going with the good guys. I personally think OSU will get at least 3 or 4 more from up north. Bold statement but not when they're saying we're #1 or at least in their top 3 choices :-)<This is my face right now....

Alot can happen between now and February 2014. Ohio State destroys the B1G and runs the table and Michigan goes 8-5.
If anyone has an spare half hour or so and wants a great laugh (maybe) then take a look at this link:

I guess thats what happens to a fan base when you have a couple years of decent football and then are back to mediocrity again.
I know there are OSU fans who get upset about things too but some of the stuff they hope happens to Meyer are pretty bad.
NICE......

"This whole thread is freakin pathetic. All Urban Meyer has to do is visit a MSU recruit and you guys shit your pants."
M*chigan State fans are still bitter about Pittman.
That thread is hilarious.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Thanks for the laugh. Have to love UFM and his recruiting prowess.
"Seems he took a little "tour" of Michigan today per a poster on HOndo's board:
"Meyer was at Grand Rapids Christian at 8:30 this morning via private jet. Met with DH at the football stadium. Was going from there to Detroit to meet with five other prospects."
....5 others in the D' huh? SCum better check their back pocket too...."
I've only read 3 pages and this is worse than MGoBlog's 7 pages of crap after Webb committed to us. The universe is virtually imploding on them because Meyer offered the kid.
I do find it funny, though, that Meyer offers Harris and the first few comments were along the lines of "nice while it lasted." Nothing like insanely pessimistic fans.
They know how good Meyer is.

@Haze I'm glad you posted this because I was going to do the same. It humors me how anytime Urbs does something, that all the other BIG team fans immediately start throwing insults that have no justification whatsoever. The best part about the comments in that blog is that most knew it is a foregone conclusion, and only a matter of time before Harris switches his commitment to TOSU.
I am about the biggest homer for Urban there is, and even I don't think I have as much confidence in him as the MSU fans! Their general attitude seems to be that if he's interested in a recruit, they may as well just give up and accept the inevitable. I have to say, I enjoy having a coach who strikes that level of fear in the opponent.
oh man, there is so much WIN there my head asploded!

Good stuff, I almost want to create an account just to troll those jabronis.
I love all the hate on their OC... ohhh brings back those sad memories of Bollman.
Hey guys, apparently, some of these other fan bases think that OSU cheats (how else can there be a winning tradition?) and that a Urban Meyer doesn't tell the truth...I'm all broken up now. I have never heard these accusations before...

Hilarious stuff, especially about trying to convince themselves their sports program is equal to Ohio State... gave me a good laugh.
Sorry for the infusion here but the Drake news brought out this gem from ttun blog Mgo and it made me laugh out loud. They are disgusted with Urban. They say the national media is giving him too much credit as a coach and they must not know that ttun has been near the top in recruiting the past couple years. Funny they fail to mention their coach and his NCs and coaching record. Hate to tell them recruiting wins nothing. This was said in reference to Urban:
"Well sadly all he has to sell is 2 National Titles and an undefeated season at Ohio with recruits there weren't his and a win against the rival in year one."
They thought year one was bad, just wait until year two when Hoke gets his first home lost and Meyer takes command of the series. I can't tell you how hard it is to resist the temptation to stir the pot on MgoBlog.
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
Fwiw, I was reading some reactions to this news on the 247 boards and msu fans have already given up on the kid. I understand fans do not know what a recruit will do, but it was funny to see them lash out at urb and tOSU. Poor mItten-residing citizens. Ohio state ruins opponents' Dreams
Edit: just saw other people on here said pretty much the same thing. I was on my phone and just skimmed down to the bottom... MSU fans are pathetic
I, for one, would like to not take MSU recruits- Because I would like Sparty to not be "Sparty" against UM.

The response:
The real answer:
Because they can't.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
The whole "gentlemen's agreement" goes something like this:
Coach A: I'm lazy and don't feel like recruiting. How about you?
Coach B: I agree.
I don't see how giving a high school student a choice of where to attend college makes a person a "scumbag."
I thought it went:
Jim Tressel: I'd love to have that guy be a Buckeye.
Other coaches in the BigTen: Please JT, leave us some recruits. :(
JT: Well golly, I guess I could leave you guys some.
Funny how that "gentlmen's agreement" went out the window the moment JT left. MSU, M*chigan, and Wisconsin, had no problem going after Ohio State's recruits.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
The "because we arent scumbags" line is the reason why the rest of the conference is now a joke (tOSU excluded obviously). Recruiting has changed so drastically with the rise of the SEC that unless you drop recruiting strategies that were used last century you might as well give up all together.
Dantonio is getting what he asked for when he angered Urban last year. Hoke was wise when he kept his mouth shut and just nodded and agreed that Urban did nothing wrong. As for Michigan fans who are proud of their recruiting and Ohio State fans who worry about Urban letting Ohio guys go to Michigan I say, how many head to head recruiting battles has Urban lost so far for talented Ohio kids? Urban still got a load of great players out of Ohio and sure he may have missed out on Dymonte but it doesn't bother me.
Letting Ohio guys go to Michigan doesn't bother or worry me. Urban knows how to coach big games and rivalries. He knows the importance of The Game and he won't lose site of that. He needs to recruit the best of Ohio and the rest of the country to compete with Bama, because that's what Bama does. Recruit locally and nationally.
You're right about Hoke. One of the smartest things he did was to leave that situation alone & not cry to the world about what a meanie Urban Meyer is...

" He is very good at both football and basketball"
^That's the thing that confused me--I was under the impression (perhaps incorrect?) that he was looking to play basketball alone at MSU. Is he being recruited as a basketball player, football player, or both? What is he actually looking to play at the next level (basketball, football, both)? That's what I'm interested to find out, is it too early to know or has he said before publically? You'd have to give OSU the edge if he wants to play strictly football or both. I'd say it's a toss up if he's looking to play strictly basketball, maybe a slight edge to MSU there (though OSU has been just as relevent in basketball the last 10 years imo).
Sounds like both. An article in Gene's Quick Bits mentioned Izzo wanting him to play hoops as well.
There was a statement made that although basketball was his favorite, he was going to focus on football. Many think he has a higher ceiling in football.
Here's a quote to confirm this.

Have M*chigan State fans always been like this towards Ohio State, or did this start after Pittman committed?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
They got a little overconfident after they beat us in 2011 when we didn't have a coach (or a competent offensive staff member with the exception of Drayton). I remember having a debate on 247 with some MSU fans who came over talking about how there was no way we'd score on their defense in 2012 and since they totally dominated us in 2011, what makes us think that we will do any better in 2012 and then ultimately we took Pittman from them and beat them in their house in 2012....they are undoubtedly a bit bitter about all of that on top of the fact they had an awful season. I would say they probably suffer from a little bit of a Napolean Complex.
I have been to Spartan Stadium many times in the last ten years, a couple times when they were starting the season off strong and the tOSU game was supposed to be MSU's most meaningful home game in years and everytime tOSU came out with a dominating victory. With the exception of a few fluke years, tOSU OWNS MSU so yeah, they are probably bitter towards our success.
The Flag has been strategically placed all over TSUN...and it seems to be paying dividends;-)

If he is just playing football, you can essentially count MSU out now. Lets get on him
We get him good we don't then we don't. The defense Urban is building will dominate and his efforts (should he decide to stay at MSU) may very well be negligible against us. We will see this coming season where we stand on the Urban Renewal Program.
On one hand I am so excited for the 2014 class. On the other hand, I am really upset that we can't take 30+ because that's how many recruits I want to see in Scarley and Gray. Drake Harris may be top 5 for me! NEED THIS KID
When A&M takes 40+ this year, it prob won't look as bad when we take 30 next year.
Aside from placing the whole Mitten state in panic...this guy is going to be a stud outside the hashes.
One funny thing I saw on that MSU board from the link above was an Oregon Ducks fan on there crying about Urban trying to get Dontre Wilson - telling the MSU fans he "had their backs" well, water seeks it's own level I suppose. I guess UFM trying to get good players = bad, evil, person.
