Tebow Advanced to High-A Ball

Our favorite minor league baseball player is taking the next step toward the big league. Timothy Richard Tebow, late of the low-A Columbia Fireflies, has been advanced to the Mets' high-A franchise.

From SI.com:

The former Heisman Trophy winner is hitting .222 with three home runs and 23 RBIs in 63 games for the Columbia Fireflies of the South Atlantic League. Tebow has struck out 69 times and walked 23 times.

Tebow has been playing left field.

That's good enough for a .340 slugging percentage, if you're in to all the statistical whatnots. The Mets, it seems, are.

"It's not like he's tearing up the league, but at the same time all of the indications are positive in terms of various things we look at -- chase rates and exit velocity," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said. "The bottom line is the average isn't there, but he's improving."
